There are moments when a nation should come together—not to congratulate itself without reflection or to criticize itself without gratitude—but to gather around the sacred table of memory.
America's 250th birthday should have been one of those moments: a once-in-a-generation opportunity to celebrate our shared values, inspire civic participation, and be invigorated for the future ahead. Instead, the American people have been deceived and they deserve answers.

Three years ago, the Supreme Court ended affirmative action, reversing decades of progress toward expanding educational opportunity.
The consequences are clear: Black enrollment at the nation's 50 most selective colleges has fallen 27%, while Latino enrollment has declined 10%.
But no ruling can erase this truth: diversity strengthens our classrooms, our democracy, and our future. As the Co-Chair of the DEI Caucus, I will continue fighting to protect educational opportunity, expand access, and ensure every student has a fair chance to succeed.

Last night, House Republicans fell in line and attached the SAVE America Act to the National Defense Authorization Act. Americans want support on kitchen table issues—not election conspiracies and voter suppression.

The Trump administration states hiring is based on merit. In reality, the firings were based on race and Trump's tariffs and broader economic policies have slowed hiring across the country. There are times in the life of a nation when the question is not what we can afford, but who we are willing to become.
Our moral traditions teach us that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for each other.
These were never abstract budget numbers; these are real people, in real places, whose lives were irreversibly harmed by @elonmusk's illegal, reckless cuts.
I am heartbroken for the families and countless others whose stories may never make the headlines. Thank you, @NickKristof, for documenting the human cost of America's retreat from responsibility.
.@elonmusk says that no one can name a person who died from his aid cuts. In fact, I've met the kids who are dying, and I've talked to the families who lost children. In my columns, I've cited many, many names of people who have died because of Musk's aid cuts. A few examples:
*Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because Musk cut funding for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. She couldn't get to a hospital and died as people were carrying her there. I talked to her parents and sister in their village.
*Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of his cuts to malaria medication in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village.
*Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after he interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him.
*Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when Musk cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to the healthcare workers.
I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge Musk: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.

Buried in the $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act is a provision that would deepen U.S. military cooperation with Israel, while walling that cooperation off from further congressional oversight. The U.S. has already provided the Israelis with intelligence which @hrw has warned could amount to aiding and abetting war crimes. Section 219 must be stripped from the NDAA.
