We’ve been doing my daily job curation of the Props Discord job board, and man are there a LOT of unpaid internships out there.
When most people see an unpaid internship opportunity, they might think: “cool! The candidate gets experience, and the business gets a worker for free. Win win!”
Is it, though? 🥲
We want you to change the way you see this conundrum. Instead, consider who might be losing out on this opportunity.
The working class kid with all the talent, but no time outside of their minimum wage job to take on something unpaid. The single parent that really cannot afford to work for free, but is absolutely itching to switch industries. The person who is actually perfect for the job, but their rent just went up - so they’ll be taking on a second service job instead.
We ask you this: if we want to be building the future of work, the decentralized economy, and a new way for people to thrive - shouldn’t we be leaving unpaid work in the dust? We shall leave you to ponder this one for yourself. ✌️
