Let’s talk about the water situation in the Gaza Strip. Gaza has an underground aquifer. If Gaza was governed in a remotely sane manner, the aquifer would provide enough water for everyone’s needs. But Hamas, being a genocidal terrorist group and all, didn’t effectively manage Gaza’s private wells. The aquifer was polluted by overpumping and wastewater contamination. In addition, the water infrastructure in Gaza is outdated because the local authorities preferred to invest in rockets, mortars, explosives, a vast underground tunnel network for its fighters, and other expenses required of jihadist groups. Who made up for the resulting water shortfall in Gaza while swimming pools at holiday villas were full? Israel. Israel did. The people of Gaza have been getting Israeli water. The payment for this water came last Saturday morning in the form of a massacre of over 1,000 people – children slaughtered in their beds, families gunned down, grandmothers taken hostage. I anticipate that there won’t be much farming happening in Gaza in the near future and therefore the water needs of the population will drop.

Egypt has just confirmed that it will NOT open its border with Gaza in order to allow Palestinian children and mothers in Gaza to escape what Egypt calls a "genocide." Egypt also just confirmed that it will not allow Palestinian children who need food to walk with their mothers to Egypt where food is plentiful. The reason for these restrictions, according to Egypt, is that the displacement of Palestinian children and mothers who are living in tents in Gaza would be dishonorable. Palestinian children must continue to suffer for the "cause of Palestine," Egypt said. reuters.com/world/middle-eas…

Hamas: We demand a 100 percent Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, a 100 percent Israeli withdrawal from half of Jerusalem – including the entire Old City and the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim holy sites – and a 100 percent "right of return" for five million Palestinians to Israel. If Israel accepts this, then we will have a ceasefire and a truce of five years or more. As soon as Israel concedes everything, Hamas will transform itself into a normal political party and the Hamas militia will disband and become part of Palestine's national army. Here's a story for you about how the news industry works. Earlier tonight, the group that invaded Israel, massacred 1000+ people, burned families to death in their homes, took hostages back to Gaza, and recorded it all with GoPros – this group announced that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, killing hundreds. Then, instead of waiting for more information from the Israeli side, the editors of the world's most important media outlets said to themselves: "This is enough for us. Let's run with it." Headlines screamed that Israel bombed a hospital. Push notifications were sent to MILLIONS of people. CNN push: "Hundreds of people may have been killed in an Israeli strike on a Gaza City hospital, according to the Palestinian health ministry" BBC push: "Hundreds feared dead or injured in Israeli air strike on hospital in Gaza, Palestinian officials say" NYT push: "At least 500 people were killed by an Israeli airstrike at a Gaza hospital, the Palestinian Health Ministry said" Do you see what they did there? They put the dramatic news in the beginning of the sentence and then they cited the source at the end so that the assertion is technically true. The Palestinian Health Ministry DID say that. The thing is, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza is a Hamas institution. What do you call people who amplify Hamas propaganda not just as news, but as the top news story in the world? There is no way that a professional military such as the Israel Defense Forces can give an instant answer about a catastrophe in enemy territory during a war. It took around two or three hours for the IDF to share the results of its initial investigation – that the explosion at the hospital was a due to a rocket launched by Islamic Jihad that malfunctioned and crashed back into Gaza. More evidence is coming out as I write this. The sad fact is that it appears that hundreds of Palestinians are dead at a hospital because terrorists in Gaza tried to fire rockets at Israelis and ended up hitting their own people. It's unbearably stupid and tragic. None of this is new, unfortunately. Journalists in the Middle East know – they absolutely know – that a significant percentage of Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s rockets misfire and crash into residential areas of Gaza. I've attached a famous example. This video is from May 2022. It shows a live broadcast of a rocket being launched from a residential area of Gaza. The rocket malfunctions, turns sideways, and crashes into the city. The overexcited broadcaster tries to pretend that nothing unusual happened and asks the camera man to turn away. The video went viral at the time. There are other known instances where this happened. These rockets are designed to kill people. Don't act surprised when they do. I say all of this to remind you to treat breaking news from Gaza with caution, even if it's unpopular to do so.

When a Palestinian hears an Israeli say “I am a peace activist,” the Palestinian assumes that the Israeli is open to the possibility of dissolving Israel. That is, in effect, what peace means to Palestinians. When an Israeli hears a Palestinian say “I am a peace activist,” the Israeli assumes that the Palestinian is open to the possibility of living in peace with a Jewish-majority country and ending all claims against it. That is what peace means to Israelis. All Israeli-Palestinian dialogue and reconciliation efforts have failed because of the unbridgeable gaps between “peace activists” on both sides.

Hamas turned hospitals in Gaza into bases for its terrorist army. Listen to what a British doctor told France 24 last year about what it was like working at Shifa hospital in Gaza City: "The main point was when I was first asked to work there, I was told there was a part of the hospital I was not to go near, and if I did, I'd be in danger of being shot... I stayed away, but I saw a few dodgy-looking non-medical characters going in and out all the time. It was a ward leading to a basement. As I said, I didn't go there, so I behaved myself... The hushed tones under which this was said was consistent with all the other hushed tones about which Hamas was discussed. You know, people were genuinely fearful. I cannot emphasize too much the air of collective paranoia that existed there."

How did Hamas have such incredible intelligence? Here is one possible answer: In the past year and a half, Israel raised the quota of work permits for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to around 20,000. The Israeli "defense establishment" viewed the policy as a way to improve the economic situation in Gaza and to maintain quiet for Israeli communities in area. The Palestinians, the "thinking" went, would have "something to lose" if Hamas renewed its attacks against Israel. There is a reasonable suspicion that some of these Palestinian workers were Hamas spies.

WSJ last week: In 2014, part of the parking lot at the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza began sinking, likely from a Hamas tunnel dug beneath. “No one talked about what was causing the collapse,” a former UNRWA official said, “but everyone knew.”  UNRWA head today:
- UNRWA did not know what is under its headquarters in Gaza. - UNRWA is made aware of reports through the media regarding a tunnel under the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza. - UNRWA staff left its headquarters in Gaza City on 12 October following the Israeli evacuation orders and as bombardment intensified in the area. - We have not used that compound since we left it nor are we aware of any activity that may have taken place there. - We understand, through media reporting, that the Israeli Army has deployed troops within the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza City. - We are therefore unable to confirm or otherwise comment on these reports. - In times of “no active conflict” UNRWA inspects inside its premises every quarter, the last inspection for the UNRWA Gaza premises was completed in September 2023. - UNRWA is a Human development and humanitarian organisation that does not have the military and security expertise nor the capacity to undertake military inspections of what is or might be under its premises. - In the past, whenever suspicious cavity was found close to or under UNRWA premises, protest letters were promptly filed to parties to the conflict, including both the de facto authorities in Gaza (Hamas) and the Israeli authorities. The matter was consistently reported in annual reports presented to the General Assembly and made public. - These recent media reports merit an independent inquiry that is currently not possible to undertake given Gaza is an active war zone. - The Israeli Authorities have not informed UNRWA officially about the alleged tunnel.
Community note
The IDF found evidence that Hamas used the UNRWA headquarters as offices, and that power cables ran directly from inside of the UNRWA offices to the underground Hamas tunnels. It is unlikely UNRWA was unaware of the tunnel construction. timesofisrael.com/directly-benea

I'm reading the UN Human Rights Council report that accuses Israel of the g-word. It is hard to overstate the stupidity contained within. Here are some sentences that I just read: "Based on the above, the Commission finds that the Israeli security forces were aware that their military operations since 7 October 2023 would cause the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza. Furthermore, considering the duration of the military operations and reports of high numbers of deaths, it is reasonable to find that the Israeli authorities knew of the high numbers of casualties in Gaza since 7 October 2023. Nevertheless, Israeli authorities did not intervene to change the means and methods of warfare employed; on the contrary, the military operations persisted over time and caused even more Palestinian deaths. The Commission therefore finds that the Israeli authorities intended to kill as many Palestinians as possible through its military operations in Gaza since 7 October 2023 and knew that the means and methods of warfare employed would cause mass deaths of Palestinians, including children."

I have a question for you, @PiersMorgan. Stay with me for a moment. I just listened to your conversation with @TuckerCarlson. You said that what the United States did to Japan in World War II was morally justified. This includes killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians, whether with nuclear weapons or firebombs. This includes killing 100,000 people in Tokyo IN ONE NIGHT by firebombing the city. Carlson asked you: "Why wouldn't you bomb just military installations? Why drop these bombs in the middle of a city when you know that overwhelmingly the incinerated people will be civilians? Why would you do that?" You answered: "Because when the enemy is not making that calculation, you have to stop them." "Stop them from what?" Carlson asked. "Not being invaded?" "Stop them from killing your civilians, killing your people," you replied. Tokyo is 5,000 miles from the west coast of the United States. In 1945, Japan was in no position to kill American civilians. Japan and the United States are separated by the world's largest ocean. Why was it morally justified to kill so many Japanese? You answered this question clearly: It was morally justified because Japan refused to surrender and you had to bring the war to an end. Here's my question, Piers. When you speak about Gaza, why does your logic change completely? You said: "I have no problem saying that I think Israel's response has gone way too far. Way too many civilians have been killed." Do you see the problem, Piers? Hamas hasn't surrendered. Hamas targets civilians and livestreams it from GoPro cameras. Hamas is proud that it is barbaric. Hamas is promising more October 7th-style massacres until Israel is destroyed. Please understand: The densely populated residential areas of the Gaza Strip that Hamas turned into military positions, rocket launching sites, and cover for its vast network of underground tunnels are walking distance from Israeli homes. Walking distance, mate. Tokyo is 5,000 miles from the west coast of the United States. Do you see what I'm getting at? Japan targeted a US Navy base – and you say it was morally justified to nuke them because they refused to surrender. Hamas terrorists gunned down hundreds of people at a music festival, burned people in their homes and cars, and then they drove or walked back to Gaza – but your position is that Israel's response has gone too far. By your logic, how has Israel's response gone too far?

The leaders of Hamas are living in Qatar. It’s strange that nobody asks Qatar to do anything about this.
The Israeli government’s decision to further extend its military operation in Gaza must be reconsidered. At the same time, there must be the release of all hostages, who are being held in inhumane conditions. And humanitarian aid must be given immediate and unhindered access to Gaza to deliver what is urgently needed on the ground. A ceasefire is needed now.

Here's something you don't see every day: Hamas policemen guarding an aid truck as it reaches the UNRWA logistics base in Rafah. Two of the men on the truck have their faces covered; the one in the front is holding a baton but is not wearing any kind of uniform. I first saw this photo in a Daily Mail article by @dpatrikarakos. The source is the Rafah police department's Facebook page. The photo was uploaded there on January 10, 2024. I have so many questions. Does UNRWA have a formal contract with Hamas for this protection, or is the arrangement more of a handshake deal? Is it normal that Hamas guys wear civilian clothes and cover their faces when dealing with humanitarian aid? Is it safe to assume that Hamas takes some of the aid for its fighters? Will Israeli hostages in Gaza receive any of the aid? How much of the aid is hoarded and sold for high prices? How much fuel did Hamas take from the fuel truck that is visible inside the compound? I also like the question that David Patrikarakos asked in his article: "Even if UNRWA does not officially work with Hamas, but needs local security forces who answer to it to guard aid deliveries, how can it be sure that aid is distributed to refugees and not according to Hamas interests?" I like to explain it this way: Everyone knows that UNRWA employs "locals" in Gaza. Who do you think the locals are?

I'm old enough to remember 2009, when Human Rights Watch founder Bob Bernstein wrote an op-ed in the New York Times about how HRW had lost its way. "Leaders of Human Rights Watch know that Hamas and Hezbollah chose to wage war from densely populated areas, deliberately transforming neighborhoods into battlefields. They know that more and better arms are flowing into both Gaza and Lebanon and are poised to strike again. And they know that this militancy continues to deprive Palestinians of any chance for the peaceful and productive life they deserve. Yet Israel, the repeated victim of aggression, faces the brunt of Human Rights Watch’s criticism." People still don’t understand the point. The existence of this tunnel network meant that Hamas guys could carry out attacks from urban areas of Gaza and then escape undetected INTO A HOSPITAL and just chill out there for a while looking super civiliany.

Hey. Qatar wants Hamas to keep the hostages until Hamas gets a deal that allows Hamas to remain in power, keep its weapons, and probably keep some hostages, too. I encourage you to use this seven-word message as often as you can: Qatar told Hamas to keep the hostages.

A Sky News anchor just asked me if I deny that killing has happened in Gaza. It was supposed to be a “gotcha” question. This is how she is presenting the UN Human Rights Council’s case that Israel is committing the g-word in Gaza.

Hamas guys opened fire on the streets of their own city in order to try to prevent four of their Israeli slaves from escaping captivity. What is the maximum number of Palestinians that Hamas is willing to sacrifice in order to keep one runaway Israeli slave? Is there a number?

This is the first Palestinian public opinion poll that I've seen since Hamas's October 7 operation to rape, massacre, and abduct Israelis. 75 percent of Palestinian respondents said that they support Hamas's October 7 operation to rape, massacre, and abduct Israelis.

The Qatari royal family does not allow journalism in Qatar. But we are supposed to believe that the Qatari royal family’s international TV network (Al Jazeera) is real journalism. It’s not. It’s an influence operation whose Gaza “bureau chief” accepted an award from Hamas.

Qatar wants Hamas to take more hostages. I'm not joking. This is what the editor-in-chief of the Qatari government newspaper Al Sharq wrote after around 20 Hamas terrorists emerged from a tunnel near an Israeli military position in Khan Younis: "Even if the Al-Qassam heroes failed to abduct Zionist soldiers this time around, the second, third or fourth attempts, Allah willing, will manage to add new rats to the number [of hostages] held by the heroes of the brigades."

Gaza could have become a state. Every Palestinian in Gaza could have had citizenship, due process, freedom of movement, and the right to vote for the government that controlled their lives. The only price was peace with Israel. Not one Palestinian ever suggested it.

When a Palestinian hears an Israeli say “I am a peace activist,” the Palestinian assumes that the Israeli is open to the possibility of dissolving Israel. That is what peace means to Palestinians.
On 4.10 Shaked’s mother and aunt went to a peace conference with other women from Beeri. On 7.10, Hamas invaded the kibbutz with a list of the conference participants. They went house to house murdering or kidnapping each one. Hamas wanted to murder anyone who supports peace.

The Palestinian government in Gaza had enough money to build a war machine that could carry out a surprise invasion and then fight the Israeli military for a year, but you want me to believe that the children of Gaza needed international donors to pay for their education.

Jabalia is one of many fake Palestinian "refugee camps." It is not a camp and there are no refugees. The residents are Palestinians living under the authority of a Palestinian government in a territory that they call Palestine.

It is absolutely not against international law for Israel to stop supplying an enemy territory. It is unbearably stupid for people to repeat this point just because it FEELS true. In related news, Hamas terrorists attacked the border crossings that you think should be opened, killed or captured everyone inside, destroyed equipment, and published video of their actions. Do you want to come operate the crossings?
The Israeli government has cut off food, water, and fuel to 2 million people inside Gaza. Collective punishment is not only contrary to international law, it is inhumane and illogical. How will this deescalate the violence rather than radicalize many more? It is madness.

Hamas is not a party to the Geneva Conventions and does not consider itself bound by international humanitarian law. Israel is a party to the Geneva Conventions and considers itself bound by international humanitarian law. Start with that, or don’t start at all.
Indiscriminate rocket fire by Hamas into Israel & use of civilians as human shields is against laws of war, but doesn't absolve Israel of its own violations. Int'l humanitarian law can't be applied selectively. It's binding equally at all times & doesn't depend on reciprocity.

Fun fact: @Malala tweeted absolutely nothing on October 7, absolutely nothing on October 8, absolutely nothing on October 9, and a call for a ceasefire on October 10. Her Twitter bio: “Still just a girl who wants to learn.”
I am appalled that Israel keeps targeting schools in Gaza — where thousands of displaced people are sheltering — with indiscriminate strikes. My heart goes out to the loved ones of all victims, including the UN aid workers who were tragically killed. Schools and humanitarian workers must never be targets. There must be accountability for violations of international law, and there must be a ceasefire now.
