Here’s my take on zoomer and millennial burnout:
You’re not burnt out from work, you’re burnt out from pleasure. I worked in tech for 8 years and I saw boomers working boring backend internet tech jobs with 50 hour weeks and 24/7 availability, barely any vacation and they maintained that intensity not for years but DECADES in a row at the same job without getting burnt out, perfectly happy and stable
The reason you’re burnt out is a combination of dopamine overload, attention deficient programming, valueless noise to mentally parse and stress of doomscrolling
If you want to get over it you need to do a digital detox where you completely cut out short form video content, limit scrolling on X and social media in general (ie IG, dating apps). Allow your dopamine receptors to heal, allow your ability to concentrate and focus to heal. You got even one week without any social media (say limit X to 30min morning, 30min night and 0 short form video content) and you’ll feel renewed in a way you haven’t since social media became a core part of your life
is anyone else completely burnt out?
not the kind of burn out that a “walk in the morning before work” or “weekend away” will fix.
the kind that demands a year long sabbatical, completely offline and away from everyone and everything.
if you’ve been here before, what helped?
