For most Arabs who experienced the Nakba, it was also the first time they discovered they were Palestinians.
Until then, they were primarily Arabs, migrant workers who had arrived only a decade or two earlier to make a living, and suddenly found themselves as Palestinian refugees without having intended to be.
By the way, it is very logical and likely that those who were truly the native Arabs, who had lived there for many generations,
were actually the ones who did not flee or voluntarily leave their homes and eventually became Israeli citizens.
