Girls in Iran continue to defy hijab laws. A group called “The Smarties” who dye their hair and walk around without hijab have been drawing international attention. On one excursion, a police officer warned one of the Smarties, Mahla (blue hair) about not wearing a hijab and scarf. She immediately told him she was transgender, and the shocked officer let her go. It wasn’t true, but it was a necessary lie to stop the harassment. Regime: it’s 2023. You cannot control people with force anymore. The women are done. They’re being kind with these symbolic protests. These are but 4 out of millions. And the men back them up. Are you going to kill them all? ⬇️

This is the first time a goal has been wrongly chalked off on an offside decision. Football fans have reacted because you’re either offside or you’re not. As lovers of the game, we have every right to know exactly what went wrong. That it doesn’t happen again is also how the game evolves. As an extreme example, if airlines said after every air crash “it’s a f@@k up! we’ve all done it” there would be no airline industry. The first phase of an investigation (yes the analogy fits as chalking off a good goal for offside is metaphorically a ‘crash’) is to obtain the data relevant to the mistake. For planes, it’s the black box flight recorder. For Premier league football it’s the conversation between VAR & the referee. This needs to be released into the public domain. The fact that they haven’t means something very wrong has taken place. @LFC had a good goal wrongly chalked off against a close rival when down to 10 men which could have a massive impact on the season. As a club they have every right to ask for transparency - as in find out exactly what went wrong - and take it from there. In a post VAR world we are in uncharted territory. Any outcome after such a mistake is on the table, even replaying the game, who knows? But an apology for “human error” - which is precisely why VAR was introduced to guard against - now being used to draw a line under the incident? Not a chance in hell.

Yalda Aghafazli was a 19 year old protester who died mysteriously a day after being released from prison last November. In a phone call to a friend as she was being released (shared online which I heard and will always remember) she says “they wrote in my file, ‘the convict did not express remorse,’ and I said yes, I will never express remorse. And to the last moment, I accepted everything I’d done. I didn’t cry, I just shouted and screamed, that’s why my voice is so hoarse. Look, you can’t even imagine how much they beat me. Can’t talk much now but (ouch, my back, ow) I’ll tell you face to face when I’m out. I’ll tell you everything.” A day later she was dead. Reported as “suicide”. And thus a disturbing pattern began to emerge with many other young protesters released from prison. Now the frequency of this pattern is on the increase, so these protestors - even in death - are being targeted and discredited. Her father Mehrdad announced the defacing of his daughter's face on her tombstone on Instagram: "Yalda you were such a threat to them they’re even afraid of your tombstone. Excellent statement from @LFC demanding “full transparency” on how the VAR team got a decision so ridiculously wrong. Make public the conversation that took place between VAR & the ref. If rugby does it live on TV then a recording must exist. Release it. Will benefit everyone.
