Last Tuesday I received the extraordinary gift of speaking at @TEDTalks . ‘Auntieverse’ was presented at ‘session 2: Mind Expanders’ to the 1700++ live attendees and watch parties worldwide.
The entire experience was nothing short of life changing. From the 2+months of working with the amazing @SCR10, Ted team and Speaker Coach @BriarGoldberg , to visiting Vancouver for the first time and overcoming my fear of being doxxed + wondering how people would react to this AI work. (Like I said to my curator Simone it’s either a Ted talk or a bunjee jump)
During the week I listened to astrophysicists, scientists, farmers, artists, thought leaders— beautiful brilliant minds sharing their genius. I’m moved, inspired, hugely honoured and 3000% mind-expanded.

While initiatives like the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil aim to encourage eco-friendly practices, their effectiveness is debatable. The harmful impact on wildlife and local populations highlights the need for more robust conservation efforts. 🫶

Today, I walked into a massive art fair and discovered my work prominently displayed at a notable gallery’s booth—without my knowledge or consent. It had been there for three days, with no mention of my name as the artist. On the very same day, I learned that a venue in Madrid was exhibiting my work as part of an immersive experience, charging an entrance fee—again, without any form of permission.
With digital media, it has become far too easy for people to use an artist’s work however they please. This disregard speaks volumes about how they value their own integrity and the creative efforts of others. Asking for permission is a simple act of respect—and it goes a long way.

New technology brings fresh opportunities for artists to expand their subject matter and visual effects. In Super ORganic Aunties (SORA), Niceaunties utilizes OpenAI’s video software, SORA, to enhance her world-building in a quasi-documentary style. Thanks to the tool's ability to render text into super photo-realistic videos, Niceaunties has introduced her new series of works into everyday settings such as the home and the street. Her signature surreal sequencing merges with a realistic visual dictionary, adding an exciting new layer of understanding to auntie culture.
Through SORA, Niceaunties continues to explore and represent the question of what it means to be an auntie in contemporary society. This series juxtaposes the fantastical elements of her surreal imagery with the grounded realism of everyday environments, offering viewers a nuanced perspective on the roles and identities of aunties today.

When I was asked by @halecar2 to curate 100 pieces of Omakase out of 1000 pieces, it was challenging. It's like being tasked to pick a favourite child, or trying to decide if the fish, rice, wasabi, or soy sauce is the most important in sushi. Omakase (which means 'chef's selection') is the quintessence of the entire collection, a taste of the vast stew that auntie culture represents. I selected them with intuition, much as I did with creating the art. Thank you collectors and all bidders and friends for appreciating and celebrating aunties with me, and for resonating with my perspective. 🫶🫶🫶
