What happened: Muun doesn't forward random probes to users' wallets to prevent random peers from DoS-ing users.
The issue was that Bitnob started probing before making the actual payment to estimate the payment fee.
We are working with them to solve this.

* You can always move funds independently using the recovery tool, but that wasn't tested

Today funds are on-chain and the interfacing with the lightning network is done via submarine swaps. This has all the nice properties of on-chain self-custodianship (static backups, no active watchtowers needed) but is more expensive/inefficient than maintaining funds off-chain.

All funds, whether received on-chain or via lightning, are in the sole custody of each user.
Funds are protected with 2-of-2 multisig security and users have possession of both keys.
Muun servers run their own nodes that forward payments to the mobile device nodes.

It has some impl complexity if you want to handle properly the myriad of errors that providers can generate, so we are taking it slow to make sure it works well across different providers.
