Quotes, wisdom and facts from and about Elon. By @lismont

Legacy media is dead. Long live citizen journalism! The US presidential campaign was further proof of what Elon Musk has been repeatedly predicting: citizen journalism is overtaking traditional media. While the winning candidate appeared in several independent podcasts for long conversations and posted himself on social media, the losing candidate gave only a few brief and edited interviews to legacy media and delegated social media posts to a PR team. This wasn't satisfying to many voters. People want to know what their political representatives really think, as human beings, and why they think what they think. Only then will they really trust them. As Elon Musk wrote, “Leaders should post [on 𝕏] directly, not hand the role to intermediaries. That is what works best. Mistakes will be made, but that’s what proves it’s real. People want authenticity.” To a future of citizen journalism and authenticity!

Here's what Elon Musk said about severance packages for dismissed government employees: “We will reduce a lot of government headcount, but we're going to give very long severances, like two years or something like that. So, you've got a lot of time to go and figure out something else to do. The point is not to be cruel or to have people not be able to pay their mortgage. We just have too many people in the government sector, and they could be more productive elsewhere.”

Jonathan Turley on Elon Musk's firm stance for free speech: “Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is, without question, the most consequential figure in free speech of our generation. I think he has done more for free speech than any living person today. In some ways, he actually stopped the progress of the anti-free speech movement by releasing the Twitter Files. He's really that immovable object, this irresistible force encountered, and [many pundits and politicians] won't forgive him for it. All their CEOs caved. People like Zuckerberg and others, they caved like a house of cards. But they finally found someone who couldn't be coerced, couldn't be threatened, couldn't be scared. And they will not forgive him for that.”

Citizen journalism as a continuation of the Enlightenment Central to Elon Musk's strong commitment to citizen journalism is the idea that each individual has the power to think for themselves and contribute to the public conversation. Collecting and confronting all points of view is the best approach to get to the truth, as opposed to delegating the task to a selected few journalists. “Let the people choose the narrative and let the people determine the truth” is one of Elon Musk's key mottos for this new form of journalism. This idea strongly resonates with Immanuel Kant's definition of an enlightened society in the text What is Enlightenment: “If I have a book that understands for me, a spiritual advisor who has a conscience for me, a doctor who decides upon a regimen for me, and so forth, I need not trouble myself at all. I need not think, if only I can pay; others will readily undertake the irksome business for me. That by far the greatest part of humankind (including the entire fair sex) should hold the step toward majority to be not only troublesome but also highly dangerous will soon be seen to by those guardians who have kindly taken it upon themselves to supervise them; after they have made their domesticated animals dumb and carefully prevented these placid creatures from daring to take a single step without the walking cart in which they have confined them, they then show them the danger that threatens them if they try to walk alone. Now this danger is not in fact so great, for by a few falls they would eventually learn to walk; but an example of this kind makes them timid and usually frightens them away from any further attempt. (...) That a public should enlighten itself is more possible; indeed this is almost inevitable, if only it is left its freedom (...) namely, freedom to make public use of one’s reason in all matters. (...) The public use of one’s reason must always be free, and it alone can bring about enlightenment among human beings.” Immanuel Kant, An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment, 1784

Der Spiegel is criticizing Elon Musk for something ... they themselves have been doing even more. After Elon Musk expressed his support for the German party AfD, several legacy media and politicians in Germany criticized him for voicing his opinion on German politics. Der Spiegel is accusing Elon of "interfering in the federal election campaign." Yet, do we need to remind everyone that Der Spiegel themselves repeatedly published anti-Trump propaganda over the last decade, thereby blatantly intervening in American politics?

Four differences between George Soros & Elon Musk 1. Ruthless business vs Love of humanity George Soros: “I am basically there to make money. I cannot and do not look at the social consequences of what I do.” Elon Musk: “I love humanity. I think we should fight for a good future for humanity.” Also Elon Musk: “If you say philanthropy is love of humanity, [my companies] are philanthropy.” 2. Money as an end vs Money as a mean George Soros: “I am basically there to make money.” Elon Musk: “The thing we call money is just an information system for labor allocation. What actually matters is making goods and providing services.” 3. Fiddling with regulations vs Playing fair & improving the rules George Soros operates his hedge funds offshore. Journalist: “So in some ways it's to escape regulation?” George Soros: “Yeah, that's right.” Elon on his part voluntarily sold Tesla stock in 2021, although he didn't have to in order to pay (a record amount) of income tax. Elon refuses to use tax loopholes. He also got involved in a presidential campaign to improve regulations for all citizens instead of trying to avoid bad regulation. 4. Cynicism vs Morality George Soros on helping Nazis to take away Jewish property: “If I weren't there, of course I [wouldn't be] doing it, but somebody else would be taking it away anyhow. In other words, whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator.” And George Soros on business: “I don't feel guilty because I'm engaged in an amoral activity which is not meant to have anything to do with guilt.” Elon Musk: “I want to be useful. I want to be able to look back and say that my actions had a good effect on the world.” Also Elon Musk: “I have a huge respect for anyone who puts in an honest day's work, contributing to society. That's what matters.” All of George Soros' quotes can be found in the video below.
