Since everyone’s gonna pile on the widow for not taking a phone call bc we live in stupid times: She should do exactly as she wants, and she knows best how to navigate her new and newly horrific situation. I declined an invitation to the White House four days after my husband died bc I didn’t think I had the strength to go through security and stand on my feet, and frankly, I thought it might make my very public experience even more weirdly public and politicized. A friend went in my stead. I’m trained for public, political exposure and still had no idea how exactly to navigate it while my life was falling apart. She has no obligation to public officials, even though it is nice for them to reach out.
She is in a place almost none of you will ever be, and you should thank God for it. If you are not of her political tribe, you can extend to her half the grace you extend to Joe Biden over the loss of his wife many years ago or the loss of his son 9 years ago. She’s two days in. She deserves and needs support and prayers, not judgment.

Because people have different desires about how they want to mourn and honor their loved ones and when it’s public and political like this, it becomes even harder to make those decisions. God bless you, Helen. I’m praying for you and I’m sorry that you have to do this.

Helen Comperatore, the wife of Corey Comperatore, the man who was murdered at the Trump rally, has spoken to the New York Post.
She says that she does not blame Biden for her husband’s murder:
“I don’t have any ill-will towards Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people that gets involved in politics. I support Trump, that’s who I’m voting for but I don’t have ill-will towards Biden. He didn’t do anything to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”
She says that Biden has tried to call her but she won’t take the call:
“I didn’t talk to Biden. I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”
She says that Trump has not reached out to her yet.
