Hello Kampala, this is how I beat today's traffic...π€·ββοΈπ..it's easy to grab the bike, the bag and enjoy the freedom of cycling whenever you feel like.
I am not in The Netherlands my dear...ππ..And my heart is filled with joy....to ride and feel safe in this road space...with my son....and friends here in Kampala-Uganda. π
And we have won! My body has kicked the coronavirus out, after 14 days of treatment and self care! But it's not over because the virus is still allover the place! I promise to stay even safer and boost my immunity further! Please promise me the same! Mwebaaaaaaaaaare!! ππ

That the car is a symbol of status, doesn't this look cool? Just give us infrastructure and alternative means of getting around, and we shall show you what is cool, cooler and coolest...and that will be the process of redefining status in terms of mobility. π
My sense of smell is back. Now I can enjoy my fish. However I tested positive for COVID-19. I don't know how we shall survive this virus! It's allover I guess. So my dear contacts, please make sure to test and protect your family, friends & workmates. Friends, the THING IS REAL!!
On my way to a meeting with boda boda leadership...and coincidentally this was the only convenient mode I could use to and from the meeting venue....
We can only regulate them....we still need them!! We do.....
Downtown Kampala has a different face, which most of you don't know about. The shopping experience is more fun than ever before. It can only get better and better. ππ
My Tweeps, Please come we celebrate my birthday...turning 40 the 4th time is a good thing..π€£π€£ππΎππΎPlease arrive on a bicycle, and bring your own drinks. π π The hoof (mulokony), and rabbit meat are here...come let's thank God for the gift of life!!
Isn't it so cool that Uganda has this, our COVIDEX, which is doing wonders for many, especially this season? Moreover one just walks into a pharmacy around and gets it...
Today I was sworn in at the High Court, as the Substantive Chairman of the National Physical Planning Board. Remember I had been acting since July 14th July 2020? So help me God! I also received the United Nations World Bicycle Day Award of 2022.I feel so honoured & challengedπ.
Today I felt honoured & challenged, to have been tasked with the role of steering the National Physical Planning Board; a body corporate, responsible for Physical Planning in our beautiful country, the Pearl of Africa.Together, we can work and contribute towards a planned Uganda.
My city my city...inspiring the world with our small but smart and meaningful steps! Meanwhile this is Kampala's downtown. π nitter.app/mandyug/status/1246352β¦
Still wondering how a thug grabs my handbag on the street, and someone else grabs it from them and hands it back to me. Some nice things are still happening around..some people are still very human, regardless! #Kampala π
If you think the future you desire will unfold by itself, while you are in your comfort zone, you are simply cheating yourself, and those that look up to you. ππ
I am planning to do a bike trip from Kampala to Fort portal. Who's in? How long do you think it would take? What are the recommended stops for a good rest?
What would you like my office and the National Physical Planning Board (NPPB) to prioritize in getting Uganda spatially organized? Your opinion, as a key stakeholder, matters in getting things done right!
Again, the most annoying questions of the year were:
1. Amanda, how far with your bicycles?ππ
2. But Amanda, do you think bicycle riding is possible in Kampala?ππ
3. But where is your helmet? ππ
Hope 2020 will come with better questions! π΄ββοΈπ΄ββοΈπ΄ββοΈ
Tomorrow, June 3rd, is a special day. It's Martyrs' day & a public holiday here. It's also the World Bicycle Day: the day the cycling world celebrates the bicycle! Please task your government to develop and implement cycling friendly plans. I wish you a happy day, tomorrow. π΄ββοΈπ΄ββοΈ
Have you seen this profile picture of President @PaulKagame? To us, in the cycling world, the future of urban mobility, and the EAC, it's more than a profile picture!
Each time I ride along a new urban road, I get an idea that it should be mandatory for one to be a cyclist before they are hired as a traffic and road engineer!
So we hit a pothole, & the tyre got a puncture. I didn't want to be late. I took a boda boda. I arrived in perfect time, after hitting one more deep tiny pothole. I held the guy so tight & when we arrived, I thanked him for managing well. These potholes are too many, deep and...
This gentleman from South Africa, says Ugandans are surely the most friendly people he has ever come across. He kept telling me about our Denis Onyango, and some other people with Ugandan names. So Ugandans, let's please keep it up, and/or get better. #Uganda
My city is busy with cycling inclusive planning. This is already here, and it's super good. You got to learn a thing from Kampala! @KCCAUG@JenniferMusisi@KCCAED @Rob_AQMobility @WCA_cycling @WBG_Transport
Why? πππ...when I was travelling miles to Kigezi High School, this building was always on my mind...when I was waking up for "winter", this building was always on my mind! When I was sitting exams, this building was always on my mind! A part of me is burnt! My heart is aching!
My brother was on oxygen support for over 2 weeks due to COVID-19..he couldn't speak nor could he eat....π³....he saw death...he fought, the doctors did their best, he pulled through...& he's unbelievably healthy again..back to work! We think he's very lucky to be alive!Ruhangaπ
The biggest problem with some of us serving in public interest is to think that the future isn't about us. This individualistic attitude has to change if we are to make a contribution towards a better world.
I give glory to God, for the gift of life. For every moment we live, let's not take life for granted. But live to make this world a better place! That alone should give us peace. ππ
I just know that the bicycle has nothing to do with gender and poverty. Cycling is just cool. ππ΄πΏββοΈ. If you never ride at all, you don't have an idea about what you miss. ππ
To all the women in the world, we have so much power to change the world into a better place for ALL. I wish you a happy Women's day, also to you, dear Men!
Fellow "girls", who will teach me how to do this well? π€£π€£π€£things I failed to do but still willing to learn.....Open Streets also mean fun on the streets...young or old! ππΎππΎππΎ
"....I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike. It gives her a feeling of self-reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood.β

I have tried my best to find a route which may be flood-free but I have given up. It's now very clear that Greater Kampala will soon be in a crisis due to drainage problems. I have now parked somewhere safe!
The drainage master plan must urgently be funded & implemented!
Are you about to or still constructing that structure without a development and building permit? Please consult your local government (District Urban and Local Councils..), before you develop any piece of land. If you already commenced without permission, please halt & consult!
Meet me, you know me and greet as if I have no name, I will not respond...it's "Good morning, Amanda" and NOT "morning"! "Thank you" and not "Thank you, Amanda", I will remain silent. π π ...God bless...ππ
More than 50% of the appeals we receive are about noise pollution, land use incompatibility, illegal change of land use and building in road reserves. The public is waking up and we are quite overwhelmed. Building or developing your land illegally? It's a matter of....
