If you truly profess Christianity, you will have value for human life, because that’s the entire premise of Christ’s death. Every human life carries infinite worth, including those you dislike or disagree with. That’s a fundamental tenet of the faith.
So, when someone opens their mouth to justify the death of a few people in order to sustain a policy or law; whether it’s gun control or anything else, it reveals a failure to grasp Christianity at its most basic level.
What we often do in Nigeria is dangerous: as soon as someone mentions Christ publicly, we stop examining their actions. It’s as if invoking His name automatically absolves them, even when their stance stands in direct opposition to the gospel. That’s muddling the waters, and it’s a hallmark of the shallow Christianity we keep recycling.
As Christians, we do not wish death on anyone, nor do we justify it, not even on the person who has killed others. Instead, we pray, we preach, and we hope for the best in every soul. Remember, Paul was received into heaven by the hand of very people he once murdered.
So please, don’t lose your discernment just because someone professes Christ publicly. Please stop it.
