As employee #24, I got to join @thorwebdev with the very rare opportunity of building a DevRel team from scratch! It is now the industry standard for community, culture and incredible content! @tyler, @silentworks and @CraigCannon were the perfect complementary pieces to keep pushing it forward to reach yet another level! 🫶 2. I released an album of Synthwave/Retrowave/Outrun music title Supabase! Not only was this encouraged by the founders of the company, but @kiwicopple put up part of his equity in Supabase on the line to motivate me to get it out by the end of the year! 🎧 3. I thought Supabase was cool when I started but I had no idea how much cooler it could become, and how excited it would make other developers and investors! It is pretty incredible being a part of this wild ride of constant growth and funding, even with the current state of the economy! 🤯

Another fun story from my beginnings with @supabase - I actually failed the interview! They were looking for someone to pioneer and lead their DevRel team, and I maybe didn't come across super confident with my 3 months of part-time experience in a similar position! 😆 But I really wanted to work at Supabase and was excited about what they were building. I also remember around this time @joelhooks from @eggheadio said something along the lines of: "A job interview is simply an assessment of how risky it would be for the company to employ you. Whatever you can do to reduce that perceived risk - whether that is proof of experience doing the job, the right attitude, a unique skill, angle for growth or knowledge - will increase your likelihood of getting the job" So rather than accepting that "No" as the final decision, I followed up their rejection with an offer to contract part-time, and help work out exactly what they were looking for in a DevRel person. Turns out it was me! And two months later they offered me the position! 🚀 Initially, giving me that fulltime position with my lack of experience was too risky, but I mitigated that risk by: 1. Lowering their investment - only 2 days a week, rather than fulltime. 2. Lowering their commitment - if things are not working out with a contractor, you just stop contracting them. Very different to an employee! 3. Offering unique value - helping them sculpt the right requirements for the position.
