PR tip #1: If it's Friday, and you are emailing a pitch, please don't say "Happy Friday!" to the journalist. Odds are she/he is stressed out of her/his mind. PR tip #2: And please don't say "Happy Friday!" when it's actually Monday.
Ask me who the true athletic heroes are, and Dick Hoyt is the first person who comes to mind. See you further on up the road, Dick. bostonglobe.com/2021/03/17/m… via @BostonGlobe
I told my 10-year-old this morning that there might not be as many gifts this year under the tree because of supply chain issues. She told me, Dad, Santa makes everything at the North Pole so he doesn't have to worry about supply chain problems.
It was an ugly commute this morning. Put me in a foul mood. Until I saw this email from @CNN , about a typo in one of its newsletters: 'Clearly, we weren't on top of our game this morning. We meant Red Sox and not Red Sex. Embarrassing!'
Salem is slated to become second major port city in Mass. for offshore wind industry after New Bedford. Vineyard Wind will play a crucial role in both ports. bostonglobe.com/2021/09/30/b… via @BostonGlobe
I'm not sure what this says about me, exactly, but a stranger drove by my house today as I walked out the front door, rolled down the window, and shouted, "hold up, where's the Coca Cola?" in a Jamaican accent. I responded: "I'm getting it out of the car right now."
It's been heartbreaking to watch what has happened to Boston's Financial District. Feels like a post-apocalyptic film nowadays. The ripple effects are enormous, more far reaching than you might expect. apps.bostonglobe.com/busines… via @BostonGlobe
So heartbreaking. Fred's an institution. The last reporter in the Ledger newsroom before it closed. Passionate about journalism, local history, movies, music. He cheated death once. Unfortunately, not this time. Of course, it happened while on assignment. patriotledger.com/story/news…
A sad decline for the company that birthed Panera Bread, and fostered a generation of fast-casual executives. I have fond memories of the Harvard Square location. And I was a regular at the 53 State location before the pandemic shut it down.
So where is the next best New England city for startups, outside of Boston/Cambridge? My votes are for Providence, Worcester, Portland. ow.ly/N2d530p83GB There are some interesting smaller cities that merit attention too.
So great to see independent bookstores like this one expanding. There was a time when I never thought I would see this again. bostonglobe.com/2024/08/20/b… via @BostonGlobe
I'd never want a 4,000-square-foot home. The heating/cooling bills alone would sink me. Though something tells me they're not as much of an issue for people who can actually afford 4,000-square-foot homes. bostonglobe.com/2024/08/08/b… via @BostonGlobe
Seems like there are better ways to fix this than installing costly electronic gates. Maybe let's start with having enough train cars so some riders don't need to stand in the aisles at rush hour, making it hard for the conductors to get around? ow.ly/oVkp30q2jrn
Great to see this bookstore open in an area of Boston that's badly in need of one, even if it's smaller in scale than its Cambridge counterpart. bostonglobe.com/2021/10/04/l… via @BostonGlobe
Maybe I'm missing something, but is it really that strange to ask customers not to openly carry guns in stores? It seems like it should be as simple as asking them to wear a shirt. ow.ly/NeQ330pu1Ht
This is a huge loss for Boston, and I'm not just saying that because they played BTO's "Taking Care of Business" every time I stepped to the plate. A great group of journalists. Tough to see the gang get broken up. bostonglobe.com/2023/06/14/b… via @BostonGlobe
Boston Globe article by @jonchesto lamenting need for more COVID testing to stops its spread is misguided. It's like thinking more pregnancy testing would stop unwanted pregnancy.
“The biggest problem with transit in Boston is not the fare, it’s unreliability and infrequency. ... The biggest cost riders pay is the cost of their time. That's where the focus should be." governing.com/now/transporta…
I am nearly 40. Am I ever going to stop having the dream where I'm in college and I've signed up for classes but never went to them or did the homework or anything, and now exams are approaching?

Just back from the new Amazon office in Boston. Neat space, but worth noting that Amazon's 6th floor 'library' (a quiet work-space area) doesn't have any books.
Does the new Northern Avenue bridge really need to accommodate motor vehicles? Seems like much cheaper alternatives could be found by limiting it to bikes and pedestrians. ow.ly/xbiD30oydWi
RIP, Kinsale. I can't tell you how much money I sent your way over the past two decades but I know I could build a Guinness brewery with it if I still had it. bostonglobe.com/2020/05/19/l… via @BostonGlobe
I know we can't have our old Northern Ave. bridge back, but do we really need build a replacement that can accommodate cars? Seems like it drives up the costs unnecessarily. ow.ly/RzAV30q1C25
I stopped using OpenTable when I realized that Boston restaurants were using it to book diners during hard-to-fill times (before 5 and after 8 pm), and showing prime dinner times as being full when they weren't. For me, I stick with the phone.
And here's the reason why I was asking this question. It seems people still rely heavily on OpenTable (from my informal polling at least!) but that's starting to change based on how often you eat out. bostonglobe.com/business/201…
Might be the first time I've seen the North-South Rail Link, a three-mile project that could cost anywhere from $4B to $14B, as a 'tiny Boston tunnel.' ow.ly/Uaa630pbVen
My colleague @jonchesto is one of a kind. He finished the #2019BostonMarathon and then came to the newsroom to write his regular @BostonGlobe business column, per usual. (He did file a little late, but I decided to let it slide.)
I was surprised how emotional it was for me to be back in the old Globe building this week. The previous two bidders would have torn this down. I'm glad it's still here. Plus the big New England map is coming back. bostonglobe.com/2021/08/18/b… via @BostonGlobe
I'm biased because we live here now and have a daughter in the school system. But it's bonkers that a city as wealthy as Newton, where most homes sell for over $1M, can't provide adequate support for its schools. bostonglobe.com/2022/03/09/m… via @BostonGlobe
Today I'm proud & thrilled to announce that I'll be joining the talented staff of @NBC10Boston. I've enjoyed decades of photographing #Boston & vicinity w/my still photography cameras, and that will not change. New to the equation will be some video added in. Thx for the support!
While making breakfast today for my 11-year-old, some milk ends up on the floor. I tell her, "You shouldn't cry over spilled milk." She responds: "Well, you should clean it up."
I am sorry to see the Allston Pizzeria Regina go. Free parking and one of the most unusual restaurant buildings in the city. bostonglobe.com/2020/05/19/l… via @BostonGlobe
Losing CommonWealth Kitchen would have been a big blow for Boston and the businesses within the city that rely on it. Good thing City Hall had some HUD money they could put to use here. bostonglobe.com/2021/07/22/b… via @BostonGlobe

There has been a lot of talk over the years about what the final nail in the coffin that is Harvard Square would be. I nominate Mr. Bartley's. bit.ly/3ibz7FI More disappointing news from @hiddenboston

Kind of amazing we've been at this for almost 10 years (with a brief COVID reprieve). It was once much more of a group effort but gradually fell on my shoulders. Wouldn't be possible without the great drawings from the unstoppable @camorris
There's a lot of badness in this world. But there's goodness too ... like the unexpected resurrection of the indie record shop. There are 44 in Greater Boston, folks. Never thought I would see this day again. boston.com/community/readers…
Soccer will be on the State House agenda next Tuesday. Will Revs fans show up to make the case? Hearing room is not large but it's been booked for 3 hours. bostonglobe.com/2024/03/29/b… via @BostonGlobe
It's hard to understate Rosemarie's impact in Boston. When I asked her in January what she would do after her retirement from the downtown BID, she did not mention she had cancer. Instead, she said she would "sit back and figure that out." bostonglobe.com/2022/02/23/b… via @BostonGlobe

It took a while to get the geese to line up in place, but worth stopping my run to take a shot to capture how beautiful #Boston is.

Interesting move from Benchmark Strategies in Boston: A guaranteed minimum $60K salary for employees. I wonder how many more firms around here will try something similar in the hunt for talent. prn.to/3L0Mo3j

I've often thought it was crazy that they do not have a stop on the Quincy line in this part of Dorchester, especially with all the new residential construction out that way.
During last night’s public comment section of the Morrissey Boulevard Commission, Dorchester resident Andrew Donovan asked members to consider adding a Red Line stop at Puritan Plaza (by Lamberts). The idea has been floated before. What say you, #Dorchester ?
I have written a lot about what it will take to 'bring back downtown' but I couldn't have predicted some of the quirky stuff the BID is doing this winter. Props to them for keeping things interesting. Just keep me away from the giant clown heads!
A mysterious metallic cube, from which glows a starry firmament, has landed in #DowntownBoston as part of WINTERACTIVE. Anyone who ventures inside Territories 2.0 will discover a true narrative microcosm: a diorama carefully designed to both captivate and induce apprehension(1/3)
Peter makes a good point here: We need to get going with ramping up energy storage. Right now, New England seems to still be in "pilot mode" on that front. Weaning ourselves off our overreliance on natural gas will not be easy but it's the only way forward for our electric grid.
This morning, my colleague @petershattuck responds to @jonchesto's recent @BostonGlobe piece on New England's wintertime dependence on natural gas. Developing new transmission and energy storage are key steps New England can take to ensure reliability. bostonglobe.com/2022/02/01/s…
