Did you know Palantir has an open data architecture? The opposite of a "black box".
$PLTR Sat down with Forward Deployed Architect @chadwahl to discuss Palantir's Multi-Modal Data Plane (MMDP). Part of the reason the world has begun to care about Palantir is because of the company's obsession around delivering outcomes. Through Q2 earnings, a record number of public companies spent valuable time on their earnings calls discussing how Palantir is changing their business. While many SaaS businesses create toxic forms of usage to keep you hooked, Palantir is geared towards reducing costs and improving margins. CEO Alex Karp has now made it a mission to try to get customer unit economics to resemble Palantir's own unit economics (a rule of 94 on a traditional rule of 40) so that partners can experience the benefit of exceptional operating leverage as the business scales, which is VERY hard to achieve, but Palantir is actually aligned, both philosophically and technically, to help partners achieve it. Chad broke down the technical aspects of how MMDP is a new framework to offer partners a way to store data anywhere, compute data anywhere, and use any model. Thanks for taking the time to discuss Chad!

When I first joined Palantir, I was fortunate enough to work on our disaster relief deployments. It's incredible to see how far that work has come.
“We were able to finally be asked by local, state, and federal leadership what you need to continue this colossal task of finding these victims… And I knew that there was one answer to that question: we needed assistance from Palantir to build a common operating picture that we would use to drive future operations.” At AIPCon 8, Captain John Miller from the Texas Department of Public Safety shares how Palantir quickly mobilized and created a common operating picture for disaster response.

The Ontology has evolved so much since then, technically and conceptually. What started as a foundation for human collaboration is now the de facto substrate for Human+AI teaming, and enabling secure automation.
Now this is interesting: I'm on Google Patents right now and sorted $PLTR patents by oldest to newest. The oldest one I can find was filed in 2006 and is based around ontology. Pretty much everyone at this point knows that ontology is a major component to what makes Palantir special. But I had no idea Palantir had patents on it for almost two decades now. The company was essentially founded with the concept of ontology in mind (or at least came to fruition shortly after the company was founded) -- something the world is only just starting to wake up to. That is quite the head start. 🔮 Nathan Gettings -- the must unknown co-founder of Palantir.

Dialing up autonomy is an iterative process, and it requires a shared model of decision-making between humans and AI. It requires the Ontology.
Why the AI job loss narrative is overhyped: AI models still need to be prompted and verified, often iteratively, to drive business value. As @balajis says, AI is middle-to-middle, not end-to-end. Humans do the stuff at the ends (supervision); AI does the stuff in the middle.

Ontology + Mixed Reality
Tara Meisinger, Senior Maintenance Manager at @Panasonic_NV, demonstrates the power of AIP + Mixed Reality for frontline operators: • As we inspect the broken machine, AIP surfaces an error in spatial context. • AIP accesses PENA's ontology to connect with real-time sensor data. • AIP analyzes the history of this winder and curates a summary of prior work - part replacements, quality investigations, and repair requests. • Next, AIP traverses the millions of maintenance tickets full of tribal knowledge on how to fix these machines. • Armed with a summary and suggested root-cause, AIP searches PENA's documentation for instructions on how to resolve the issue. • Once repaired, recordings can be submitted back to the ontology - enabling AIP to become smarter and more robust as time goes on. If you talk with the serious AI Labs, they will tell you that only @PalantirTech is doing anything in the enterprise with LLMs. Chat is the wrong paradigm to harness the power of this stochastic genie. dead end. Value comes from changing how your enterprise operates. That means upgrading the 'logic' that powers your operations. Better, Smarter, Faster. That requires Ontology. Then LLMs can wield the data, logic (everything from algebra to AI), and actions to win. This is the secret. As people approach the cliff's edge with mindless, mimetic RAG, they will absorb this truth. Or spend 8 hrs in a bootcamp, hands on keyboard, and get their before the masses.

Critical point called out by @mbabbuino : BP uses Foundry & AIP to bring more technical leverage to individual workflows *while* simultaneously enabling collaboration across new, cross-functional workflows. Connected decision-making. Operations, not analytics.
$PLTR Head of Energy @mbabbuino on the expansion of their deal with $BP and getting into the S&P 500 🔮⛽️ “The energy space is full of standards… The rigor around meeting those standards is pretty high. The rigor that the index keeps on getting in is equally high. “We used to get asked all the time by energy companies when we were smaller and younger, ‘okay great. The tech looks fantastic. But I make decisions on decade timeframes, I’m going to be operating in this field for a generation. Are you still going to be around?’ “I think that’s a signal to the market as a whole, but particularly in energy, yes. We’ve met these standards and we’re here to stay”

Full of gems 💎
Wielding LLMs requires first building intuition about how to leverage them. #Palantir CTO @ssankar joined the @ARKInvest podcast, where he shared how customers are integrating generative #AI into their workflows to realize value at speed. Listen in: piped.video/watch?v=oeFjsv-B…

The Cybernetic mantra: "Feedback beats planning"
I have never seen it expressed exactly like that, but I wholeheartedly endorse it: Feedback beats planning. My plea at Meta was “No grand plans, follow the gradient of user value”.

The mad man is Ontology-pilling TED!
Had a great time at TED talking about how maps + ontologies can serve as a foundation for our Cybernetic Age - where we use digital software not to retreat from the world, but to transform it.

Once you've tried LLM-powered data integration (with rich prompt templates!), in a system with proper guardrails, health checks, and secure collaboration...it's hard to imagine ever going back 🚀
**New Feature** One of the strongest use cases for LLMs is in data processing tasks, we make it so simple but also so scalable. Pipeline Builder: Use LLM node. This allows you to effortlessly combine the power of LLMs with your production pipelines in a few simple clicks. Many LLM use cases are based only on foundational data and don't require iterative user input. Save time by processing and running your LLM model on your data directly in Pipeline Builder, leveraging the production pipelining features that Pipeline Builder offers, such as branching and build monitoring. @PalantirTech $pltr

Ditto @chadwahl — almost impossible to keep up with all the new things our product teams are shipping 🚀 🤯
$PLTR Architect @chadwahl with a simple but CRITICAL point to understanding Palantir🔮‼️ “We’re going to eat the pain and excrete product” “We’re building this product at the edge with our customers for what they need. Not sitting back when we think of it and then showing up and saying, ‘hey do you think this would be useful?’” “Those engineers at the edge, they’re not just using the product. They’re using the product to drive outcomes for our customers, but also building new features in the product to solve the customer’s problems in new ways. And then that comes back, and it’s new features. “When we show up, our customers are like, ‘I tried to do this with other cloud providers for 6 months and I got nowhere, and you did it in 2 days in a bootcamp.’ We hear that on repeat.” Via @ceodotca

The infusion of AI shows that process mining was always meant to be Ontology-driven
Palantir's AI-powered process mining enables organizations to surgically identify problems that are slowing down operations, and then rapidly deploy AI-driven copilots that save time, money, and resources. See how to deploy next-generation process mining: piped.video/watch?v=pLtqjKlY…

this is funny because "product manager" is a pretty niche and synthetic role at Palantir. Show me the graph of developers 👀

Ontology + @stratechery …!
❗️ $PLTR mentioned as "THE MOST INTRIGUING AI COMPANY." @stratechery is prominent tech & strategy newsletter, written by @benthompson. Last year, it published an amazing interview with @ssankar and @MabreyTed. Want to unlock value from AI? You need an Ontology.
