Can we stop aging? #HKUST's research team has identified a key protein that may shed light on reversing the aging process using the adult stem cell of skeletal muscle (or muscle stem cells, MuSCs) as a model system. The discovery paves the way for the possible future development of therapeutic interventions for aging-related diseases and various mitochondrial diseases. A laboratory group led by Prof. Tom CHEUNG recently identified the role of CPEB4, an mRNA-binding protein, in maintaining mitochondrial metabolism, by upregulating the biosynthesis of mitochondrial proteins, thus maintaining sufficient energy output. Celebrating Hong Kong's Diversity: An Enlightening Visit to Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple At #HKUST, we believe cultural understanding begins with open hearts and shared experiences. That's why our Diversity and Equal Opportunities Unit (DEO) recently organized a special cultural journey to Wan Chai's historic Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple – Hong Kong's only Sikh house of worship. Guided by WEDO Global's Cultural Ambassadors, our staff and their families experienced: • The serene beauty of Sikh prayer traditions • The symbolic meaning behind traditional headscarves • The warmth of Langar (community kitchen) through shared vegetarian meals More than just a cultural exchange, this was a powerful reminder of how understanding different faiths and traditions builds a more inclusive society. As we walked through the temple's halls, we weren't just learning about Sikhism – we were living HKUST's commitment to creating a campus (and a world) where every culture is valued. This visit marks another step in our ongoing journey toward genuine mutual understanding and respect. We're proud to help write Hong Kong's story of unity through diversity! #HKUSTDiversity #InclusionMatters #CulturalExchange #HongKongDiversity #SikhHeritage
