Launching this campaign is the honor of a lifetime. I’m ready to build a city that works for everyone.
Here’s why I’m ready to fight for Richmond as your Mayor:
BIG NEWS: Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates to represent the newly created 94th District. I’m proud to step up for the City of Norfolk and will fight for policies that create opportunity for all. (1/5)
Richmond’s future is bright, but we need someone ready to roll up their sleeves to build a smart government for a stronger Richmond while addressing the disparities we’re seeing in our communities—building a Richmond that works for everyone.
So, while it is fun to talk about charts - the far more important conclusion is that this budget is prioritizing the interests of the wealthiest among us AND putting the state's revenue base in jeopardy. We can do better, I am sure.
Yesterday, @VVforDelegate was advocating we should measure GOTV countdown in half days. Now that we’re on second pass packets, I agree!! Great day all over Henrico knocking for Schuyler, @debrarodmanva, @RodforDelegate, @ShannonTaylorVA, & @gregory4sheriff! #FlipVABlue
I’m in awe of all of the support I’ve received since launching my campaign for mayor of Richmond last week.
To everyone who chipped in, amplified our announcement, or wrote well wishes: Thank you for supporting me in this big moment.
My team has a launch day goal of welcoming 150 new supporters to our campaign. Chip in any amount to join today and be a member of my team!

Really great night with @metrorichmondyd. We heard from the @vademocrats leadership on how young folks in and around Richmond can make an impact this year and beyond.
📊 Accounting and finance job open!
I am excited! Foodshed Capital is a non-profit community lender supporting farmers, particularly those in underserved communities.
As Board Chair, I can attest to the incredible work done every day. Link 👇

I am honored to have earned the support of the hardworking people represented by @SEIUVA512@32BJSEIU & @IBTLocal322. I will honor collective bargaining agreements as we work side-by-side to build a Richmond that works for everyone. When our workers succeed, our city succeeds!
This photo of @TyroneGayle has been in my head all day. He was leading us down Creeper Trail that morning in 2012, just as he always led me to be a better version of myself. Forever grateful for that year running around VA with him from Abingdon to Arlington. Love to #GayleNation
✅ Perfect fall weather
✅ Fantastic candidates (@debrarodmanva and @VVforDelegate )
✅ Adequate caffeine
✅ GOTV Lit
= beautiful day to knock some doors and #FlipVABlue
CC: @shayne4change
Grateful to have the opportunity to learn - and keep learning - from @timkaine. So excited to have been able to be at his re-election launch in Richmond.
Had a great time knocking on doors today for @Hashmi4Va in Chesterfield. Now headed up for GOTV rally with @JCole4VA, @QasimRashid, and @jessfosterva. Only four days to go!! #flipVAblue
Of course, the real substance comes from @SenLouiseLucas and others, but three observations about some optical illusions in yesterday's budget presentation:
I am honored to receive the endorsement of our teachers. There is nothing more important for the future of Richmond than supporting our teachers and kids. I will work every day to invest in RPS, partner with our school board, and build a bright future for our kids.

Agree 100% with @andreasrva. I unequivocally support this @PPFA project. It is critical for Richmond to remain a beacon for reproductive health access.

This is great news for Richmond and I’m proud to support this important initiative. We need to do everything we can to increase access to health care, abortion services, and gender-affirming care.
3) Also...cherry picking certain competitors to make Virginia look one way or another...c'mon folks. We all can read JLARC reports (here's 2023 Virginia Compared) and see what our tax burden per capita is relative to others states.
Small businesses are what make Richmond, Richmond.
Thank you to Reservoir Distillery for getting Scott’s Addition small business owners together to talk with me about the future they want to see for Richmond.
In RVA, “Freeda” the 20 foot inflatable IUD, made its’ debut at the Capitol.
@AFContraception is using Freeda for their campaign to educate Americans about the ongoing threats to Birth Control access in the United States.
🚨 Terrific news for Richmonders — we know access to quality, equitable health care is something we can all get behind.
I applaud Richmond City Council for voting unanimously in support of VLPP building their third clinic here in Richmond.

Thank you to Dr. Coleman’s history class at John Marshall High School for inviting me to speak about the importance of voting and local issues. Their word of the day, inviolable, sums up the importance of participating pretty well!
I want to thank the Richmond Crusade for Voters for hosting their Mayoral candidate forum last night.
They led a great discussion on affordable housing, gun violence prevention, food deserts, and more critical topics for our City.
Take a look at some of my thoughts below ⬇️⬇️
Folks, Richmonders start casting ballots in just 50 days !!
I’m running to invest in affordable housing, fully fund Richmond Public Schools, build safer communities, and protect the right to an abortion here in our city.
One year ago, I took my oath of office to represent the Fourth District as Virginia’s first Black woman in Congress.
Since then, I have fought to make progress on the issues that matter to you.
It is a privilege to serve.
ALT Congresswoman McClellan taking the oath of office with her family in the U.S. Capitol.
ALT Leader Jeffries, Congresswoman McClellan and her family on her first day in Congress.
Thank you to the union leaders who joined me today for sharing their perspectives on the future of the City.
We have a unique opportunity here in Richmond for management and labor to work together to build a City that Works for Everyone.
No matter what happens, thank you to an amazing VA Coordinated teaml. They put their heart and soul in to #FlipVABlue. Amazing staff and vols in every race.
(Selfishly, also, ty to @_Rhettlee, @shayne4change, @Brendanjboylan, and @TonyaVJames1, who, among others, put up w/ me)
It's been an amazing week on the trail! Thank you to everyone who's come out to a forum, an event, or who's taken the time to chat with me after church or on the doors.
I'm committed to building a Richmond that works for everyone and I know we can do that together!
1) The table conveniently leaves out high earners (there is plenty of room on the right side for another column!). High earners, of course, would receive a much larger tax cut than others under this proposal. That is just the math!
I’m honored to receive the distinguishment from @momsdemand. We need more common sense gun violence mitigation programs in Richmond - and a governor who takes the threat of gun violence in our community seriously.

Less than 24 hours until #ElectionDay! Together with @SEIU_Virginia, @NewVAMajority, @IBTLocal322, we are knocking on doors and talking to voters about what they can do to make Richmond a city that works for everyone.

Thank you to the @RichmondYP and @VAUnion1865 for hosting, @VicMcKenzieJr for moderating, and every mayoral candidate for a great discussion on how we move Richmond forward.
Young Democrats have played a critical role in Democratic wins every year. I appreciate the support of everyone who came out to our YD Meet & Greet! YDs can be the change we want to see in our city.
Thank you to @MelPruett_ for hosting and making the volunteer ask tonight!
Water? ☑️ Running shoes? ☑️ Packet? ☑️
Knocking on doors & hearing directly from our neighbors is one of the best parts of a campaign.
Across RVA, our message of positive change continues to resonate. If you want to come knock doors with us, sign up at rodayforrichmond.com
TODAY IS THE DAY! We have until 7pm to vote for Harrison and a Richmond that works for everyone! Get to the polls, and STAY IN LINE until you cast your ballot.
LET’S GOOOOOO!!!
#RodayForRichmond#RVA#vote
We are proud to have the support of an amazing community leader, Floyd E. Miller II. Harrison has partnered with Floyd for many years to address the needs of small businesses in Richmond.
2) Proposed permanently cuts BILLIONS of revenue vs. Baseline. But, you wouldn't know it by looking at this page...
I like a good common size chart. But don't use one to hide the ball - particularly b/c the impacts hurt the most vulnerable. At least footnote the dollar amounts!
In FIVE DAYS, Richmond will decide who will lead our city for the next four years. Richmonders deserve to live in a city that works for everyone. Vote for Harrison early or on November 5!
#RodayForRichmond#RVA#vote#GOTV
Thank you to the Manchester Alliance for inviting me to a great community conversation yesterday. We talked about the future of Manchester, building a City Hall that works for everyone, and how we can support our small businesses (like the Gold Lion Cafe who hosted this event!).
Thank you to Katie & Ted Ukrop for hosting a great event at Quirk last night! I'm always grateful for the opportunity to share my values and vision for the city!
Nationally, guns now kill more children than car crashes.
Richmond will only succeed if every resident feels their neighborhood is thriving - and that starts with ensuring every resident feels their neighborhood is safe.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our meet & greet tonight. We hold these events all across the City because nothing is more important than hearing from all our residents. We can bring the change Richmond needs to reach its potential and be a City that works for everyone!
During #VAPOTSAwareness Month I want to take a moment to lift up the countless Richmonders who are battling POTS, long COVID, and other orthostatic intolerances.
I will always be a listener and advocate in your corner.

#richmondpriorities Housing is the largest cost for almost all families in Richmond — a cost that is increasing at an unsustainable rate. Every person in Richmond deserves a safe and affordable place to live.
We are honored to have the support of Gwen Hurt. Gwen and Harrison have worked together to make sure that small businesses in our community have access to the resources they need to thrive.
There’s nothing more energizing than listening to Richmonders about their hopes, dreams, and concerns. I’m so excited to keep spending time knocking on doors and attending events in every corner of our community!
14 years ago @harrison and I were pages in the House of Delegates and @timkaine was our Lt. Gov. Whoever thought we’d be in these awesome spaces today!
We all know that working together to ensure Richmond Public Schools has the resources it needs to succeed is one of our community’s top priorities. That’s why it is so deeply disappointing that Youngkin vetoed HB 805.
I wake up every single day focused on what is best for the City of Richmond. Now, as we enter the next phase of our new campaign, I need to hear from you. Answer our campaign launch priorities survey this week→

On this #WorldTeachersDay2024, let's celebrate teachers and support staff by honoring their collective bargaining agreements and ensuring they have the resources they need to do their jobs for our communities.

Today's the deadline to register to #vote! Our democracy works best when we all participate--that includes voting in local elections!
But don't worry if you miss it! You can still register in-person on Election Day and vote with a provisional ballot!
#richmondpriorities I started an organization that works to ensure every small business has the same set of tools, including access to capital. When everyone has access to the resources they deserve, people thrive.
ALT Roday Concedes Richmond Mayoral Race
RICHMOND, Va. — Democrat Harrison Roday today issued the following statement conceding the Richmond mayoral race:
“I congratulate Danny Avula. I wish him success in moving our city toward a more equitable future.
“Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign, including the Richmond Crusade for Voters, New Virginia Majority, SEIU, the Teamsters, and the Richmond Education Association. The work you do advocating for progress, workers, and communities of color will be all the more important during a second Trump presidency, and I will continue to fight by your side.
“Though the results weren’t what we had hoped for, I am immensely proud of the campaign we built together. We ran a campaign rooted in the voices of Richmonders, advocating for the issues that truly matter to our community: affordable housing, quality public education, safe neighborhoods, access to reproductive health care, and a government that works for all of us.”
Once Trump descends upon our city, he’s all too likely to make disgraceful comments attacking Richmond & everything we value.
We need to make sure we’re able to defend our city. Chip in now to show Richmond is standing strong against hate.

We build a brighter, more inclusive Richmond by
✅ Investing in affordable housing
✅ Funding our public schools
✅ Ensuring our neighborhoods are safe
✅ Delivering great services from City Hall
✅ Protecting access to abortion
Thank you to the Edgehill-Chamberlayne Court Civic Association for allowing me to talk and answer questions at their meeting tonight. I truly appreciate the opportunity to listen to Richmonders and what they want from their Mayor!
Do you get frustrated when your mentions are full of tweets meant for someone else?
I don't at all - it's really ok - because people are just trying to do the right thing and defeat Lindsay Graham. Great cause.
South Carolinians: vote @harrisonjaime for U.S. Senate.
I just wrapped up the @theMBL forum! Great discussion about how small businesses are critical to a thriving community here in Richmond.

I so appreciated the opportunity to be back in the 8th District last night! Thank you to Councilwoman Trammell and the 100+ residents who came out for the great dialogue on neighborhood safety, economic development, and the future of our City!
ELECTION DAY IS TOMORROW! Richmond, are you ready for a city that works for everyone? Vote for Harrison on November 5!

Juneteenth is a celebration and a tradition across our country – but it is also a day for us to remember that Virginia and the United States have more work to do to become more equal and equitable.
Abortion IS a local issue! Richmond needs a mayor whose commitment to reproductive rights never comes into question. As long as Virginia has a governor who is trying to ban abortion, Richmond needs a mayor who will fight against those attacks. That's Harrison.

Spotted: A new yard sign and billboard for a candidate with values and bold ideas. Richmonders, are you ready for change? We know we are.
