I was lucky to share this HDR day with many colleagues and friends 🥰 can’t thank enough to jury members for making space in their busy schedule, their wonderful talks, the insightful questions, and all the kind words. Some cheerful moments attached.
Gül Varol is defending her Habilitation today, and she's using it to organize a workshop with an Avengers list of speakers: gulvarol.github.io/hdr/index… There's a zoom link, hopefully it will work. Starts 9am CET (Live thread on 🦋)

Why do people complain about thesis writing so much? You finally get to write your honest thoughts (without the worry that reviewers will pick on the limitations of your method), read papers from 1980s, write without vspaces and page limits. It's been stimulating and fun for me.

Fully agree. Work has been so relaxed post-tenure. And one reason I was not sharing this is not to get bullied on social media :) At the same time, I want to encourage people to consider academia. So here it is.
Spotted on Reddit: an ML-adjacent faculty who seems to have a very healthy and relaxed approach to work and life. Why don't we hear about more people like this? teddit.net/r/MachineLearning…
