Bismati Devi had a miscarriage on her way to hospital on the bumpy road in Mandabadi in Daringbadi (Odisha). Recently, 61 locals gathered and worked for 12 days to make a new road (7 km X 12 feet), connecting it to the main road, making it safer to commute.

कपड़े की कतरन से बनी ये चादर गाँव में, गर्मियों में गद्दे और सर्दियों में कम्बल की तरह इस्तेमाल होती है। गूँज में भी महिलाएं सुजनी बनाती है, जिस्से उनका आर्थिक सुधार होता है और वह अपने बच्चों को अच्छी पढ़ाई करवा पाती है।

Education has the power to transform people’s lives. With this motto, the villagers of Patrapada in Puri, Odisha, took a step to build a community hall where village children will gather to attend tution classes, under Goonj’s ‘Dignity For Work’ initiative.

This story is from the small village of Chandrahati in Bankura district of West Bengal. People took up Goonj’s suggestion of building a kitchen shed at the local Anganwadi Center. In just a day they built the entire shed! Everyone was awarded Goonj Family Kits for their efforts.

60 villagers of Baragadi, Odisha built a 7X80 feet bamboo bridge in three days. No outside engineers involved, no money paid to anyone..
This bridge is now a safe passage, connecting Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts of Odisha.
