To anyone who disables paste on a 'confirm password' field... that makes the experience of using a secure, random-generated password on mobile a horrendous experience.
So over a year on YouTube, a video that shows people how to install LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi 5 to play your own, local, legally-acquired content on a TV...
My video was removed because it contains 'dangerous or harmful content', and my appeal was just rejected.
Oh boy. I had clicked off MKBHD's latest video a minute in since I realized it was full sponsored and just hitting DJI talking points.
But doing driving reckless for a short clip in a video is always wrong. Don't drive 60 over the limit. Not ever, esp for content.
lol for one of my #opensource projects, an #infosec employee at @EpicGames emailed me this questionnaire with over 100 questions and wants me to fill it out so *they* can use my freely available open source software.
No.
Chrome is hot garbage.
A long time ago it was a snappy rebel browser that took the Internet by storm.
Today it's worse than IE ever was, tracking your browsing habits and sharing them with advertisers even if you take efforts to protect your privacy. It's all out-out too.
I was thinking Apple was having their Windows 8 moment with the horrible UI baked into Sequoia... but no, this is worse than that. It's like they didn't even test the UI on actual Macs or with human beings using them.
Team stay-on-Sequoia here...
Raspberry Pi just announced the Pi 500+
It has a quad-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD (built-in NVMe), and an RGB backlit mechanical keyboard (Gateron KS-33 blue switches).
Cost: $200 - and in this thread I’ll go through some testing notes 🧵
The high-end 16 GB Pi 5 (plus accessories) is $208. A faster Tiny PC with an Intel N150 and 16 GB of RAM is $159.
When did Raspberry Pis get so expensive? piped.video/watch?v=TORg5FhK…
People often ask me about this fancy-looking Linux monitoring tool when they see me using it in my videos—it's called 'btop' and it's available via the package manager of almost every modern Linux distro (e.g. `sudo apt install btop`)
A Discord is not a substitute for a website. Or a support forum. Or an issue queue.
Or really pretty much anything besides maybe IRC or Matrix if you're not worried about the openness of the chat platform.
Raise your hand if you ever inadvertently caused a 2+ hour outage (which was impossible to fix in a deterministic manner) due to DNS misconfiguration. #itwasdns
Ah us-east-1.
The primary region for so many apps.
Also to many app dev's surprise, the *only* region they ever tested without backup/failover elsewhere
After being published on my channel for over two years, YouTube put a strike on my channel for my video showing people how to set up Jellyfin on their NAS, for promoting "dangerous or harmful content"
Initial findings with the @LinusTech screwdriver:
1. It has a very thin shaft (compared to other ratchets, not normal drivers lol), good for tight spaces
2. Good hand-feel for the ratchet, though this adds a tiny bit to runout (worse for some types of work)

Imagine if HP said you had to install an HP app on your computer, and every time you wanted to print a document in Microsoft Word, you had to have Word transfer that document to the HP app, then the HP app would be the only thing allowed to actually send the print job off.
M4 efficiency is stunning. First machine I've tested getting over 5 Gflops/W with HPL, and in fact it goes beyond 6 Gflops/W... with fan only spinning up to a quiet 2500 rpm.
Maybe this is why Qualcomm abandoned their marquee Dev Kit—it is thoroughly trounced by M4.
Oh we're gonna do this again YouTube?
Self-hosting your own media content on a Raspberry Pi is not "dangerous or harmful".
I'm appealing of course; they're saying installing LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi circumvents copyright?!
Raspberry Pi just launched a new 16 GB Pi 5 for $120.
I tested it. It's faster and more flexible than the 8 GB model, it can run more apps, and it has the newer D0 revision of the main SoC. But is it worth it?
Re: Honey scam
A free product that has enough money to sponsor *every* huge YouTuber immediately raises alarm bells.
At least with overpriced stuff like the Ridge wallet or Raycons, you get something and the company doesn't actively harm the creators it is purportedly helping.
Update: YouTube has just reinstated the video, after what I presume is a human review process. I wish it didn't take making noise on socials to get past the 'AI deny' process :(
Go forth, and self-host all the things! piped.video/watch?v=3hFas54x…

The Raspberry Pi 5 works with AMD 7000-series cards.
Yes, it can run Doom (Eternal). And Crysis (Remastered). In 4K. And do hardware video transcoding. Check it out:
The Raspberry Pi 5 is 2.5x faster than the Pi 4 (sometimes more!), and I have the FULL rundown — let me walk you through it in this thread. #RaspberryPi#Pi5
This is the coolest book I've seen in years. Fascinating look inside hundreds of circuits, switches, and mechanical electronic devices that I've never seen before. Open Circuits from No Starch Press. #electronics#books
Everyone in #Homelab knows about the DIY 19" IKEA LACK rack... but did you know IKEA makes the perfect mini rack furniture, too? Presenting stirkage's Eket rack! github.com/geerlingguy/mini-…
I wonder if Microsoft secretly wants everyone to switch to Linux. There are certainly fewer reasons to stick to Windows every day: theverge.com/news/793579/mic…
The #Eclipse was absolutely stunning. Here's a composite with all my images. Couldn't have asked for better #mowx weather in #Missouri.
Also got to meet @smartereveryday in southern MO. Photos w/ Sony a6600 on tripod at 350mm, f/8 (except for totality), using a Celestron filter.
Doom Eternal, 4K, on a Raspberry Pi (RT: On)
Only 10-15 fps at that resolution, but between Steam/Proton/Linux/AMD's open source drivers/Coreforge/community, what an amazing sight to behold!
I can confirm that yes, in fact, @Raspberry_Pi 4 are being produced. And all the other models too! I see the light at the end of the tunnel... and I saw the robots on the production line, too! (Video will come soon-ish. I have SO much footage to process!) #RaspberryPi
Apple doesn't realize how many hours I spend every iOS release trying to explain to family members with iOS devices how to use the same app (Photos) which is completely redesigned every year.
Another @redhat employee (who labeled me as a clickbait influencer) tried to pull a "gotcha" saying I "personally benefit immensely" from AWX, citing my YouTube video.
I made $500 from that video. And I wrote the literal AWX Operator Red Hat maintains.
I'm glad I have started uploading all my content to @floatplanemedia, including this 'forbidden' video about open source software (see floatplane.com/channel/JeffG…).
But I'm disappointed YouTube's guidelines are so loosely applied here.
What a "Pocket Monster" in my hand! 🚀
#NanoCluster packs SEVEN #RaspberryPi CM4 with NVMe SSD, optional USB3, and support max 60W POE Plugin!
All this fits in your palm and weighs just ~200g! 📱
Imagine running a mini data center #homelab on your palm! 💻✨
If anyone asks why I prefer to work with Raspberry Pis when I want to tinker on a random project, consider:
I just spent the past hour with a brand new ArmSoM Sige7 board. This has been on the market for months, with some glowing reviews...
And it took about 30 minutes before I could get it to boot (20 of those minutes finding an image that would flash properly and at least *start* booting). Then 20 to try getting logged in. And the last 10 trying to set up an account on ArmSoM's forum to ask what the default user/pass for Ubuntu is.
github.com/geerlingguy/sbc-r…
This is not an isolated incident. So many times I hop on board a new SBC board train, and end up spending more time just getting to the point I can start doing a project... than actually doing a project 🤦♂️
The hardware looks cool, though. Hopefully I can get logged in next week!
The Mac mini’s 200W PSU is gorgeous. Has horizontally placed components that go through the PCB to reduce z-depth (we saw this first on Studio Display).
Stunning.
YouTube previously gave me a guidelines strike for showing people how to install an open source media library tool, Jellyfin (see: nitter.app/geerlingguy/status/184…), but fortunately _that_ appeal was accepted and that video wasn't removed.
After being published on my channel for over two years, YouTube put a strike on my channel for my video showing people how to set up Jellyfin on their NAS, for promoting "dangerous or harmful content"
Guess what I have on my desk to test next week...?
Two more RISC-V cores to add on to the 8 inside this laptop!
This is a neat little RP2350 GPIO expansion card for Framework devices, which is plugged into the DC ROMA Mainboard II, with an 8-core P550 onboard :)
Our RP2350 expansion cards produced by @HQ_NextPCB arrived last week, and are fully functional with @FrameworkPuter PCs! We have tested them with @DeepComputingio's DC-ROMA RISC-V PC and they just work as intended!
Thanks all for sponsorship!
Thank you XenoCow for case design!
Finally had time to watch @pewdiepie's "I installed Linux" video.
Don't know what I was expecting... but *wasn't* expecting a great list of reasons why, in 2025, you should stop using Windows and install Linux—he even mentions how to use systemd-analyze!
piped.video/watch?v=pVI_smLg…
Minisforum just launched their first Arm workstation, the MS-R1.
12-core CPU, Arm Mali G720 iGPU, 64 GB of RAM, NVMe, U.2, and PCIe expansion, and a lot more. It's a whole Arm Homelab in a box!
I've had a Microsoft Account (ugh) for over a decade.
I just tried creating an 'App' within Azure. But when I signed in, I found my account is owned by the school my daughter attends (for one year).
Somehow that school has adopted my MS account?!
Bambu's firmware shenanigans are making me rethink ever recommending one again.
They have to backtrack on it, or lose the goodwill of the 3DP community that is "open source but willing to give on value sometimes", which is not an insignificant sector.
I don't get why Apple believes desktop users should have a more iOS-like experience, with massive touchscreen padding on everything. Mouse/trackpad input means desktop doesn't need to waste like 100px in padding on every dialog and window.
I don't know when I'll install Tahoe
JetKVM's source code is now public! github.com/jetkvm — shipping has started, I can't wait to receive the extra unit I ordered. I have something special in mind for it :) #homelab
WTH! @Rainmaker1973 blocked me after I asked him to delete a post of MY video on X by someone who ripped it off TikTok.
I didn't want to have to do it, but if @elonmusk's platform is this bad at protecting its creators I'll work up a little more action.
4K Gaming on a Raspberry Pi? YES!
It's been over four years in the making, but thanks to some amazing work by Coreforge and others in the community, we have a mostly-stable patch for (some) AMD GPUs running on the Pi 5.
