After the hostile takeover of #freenode comes the hostile takeover of the channels. New freenode "staff" has stolen #fosdem , the third-largest channel on freenode, from us.
FOSDEM has moved to @liberachat and we urge you to move to @liberachat or #OFTC immediately.
We have been silent for too long. Apologies for that.
FOSDEM 2022 will happen on the weekend of 2022-02-05 & 2022-02-06.
We have been trying to plan since August, but finding consensus on what we can do is taking more time than anticipated.
Sorry, and please bear with us.
The next FOSDEM will take place on 1-2 February 2020 at our usual venue, @ULBruxelles (thanks ULB!). fosdem.org/2020/
See fosdem.org/2020/practical/ for venue location and other useful information. The site will be updated further in the coming months.
We would like to thank you all for attending, all the help from the many many volunteers and hope to see you again next year! Please help us improve by sending feedback to feedback@fosdem.org
We would like to thank you all for attending, all the help from the many many volunteers and hope to see you (in person) again next year! Please help us improve by sending feedback to feedback@fosdem.org
We hope you enjoyed our celebration edition and hope to see you again next year! Also a big thank you for all the help from the many many volunteers who are the true heroes who make this conference possible. Please help us improve by sending feedback to feedback@fosdem.org
Packing tips: Bring warm clothing and a coat (near freezing and chance of rain/snow), don't forget Belgian power plug adapter and chargers for your smart devices. Cash money for purchases at stands or beer-event (cash machine onsite runs out quick), catering also accepts cards.

Network team wants to raise awareness we see MITM attack attempts. Use secure protocols to connect to the outside! Also if you are the one doing this please come to the NOC, we have a present for you ;)
Part of the year-round volunteer team deep into one of our multi hour meetings today poring over the last details for The Event. The t-shirts have been ordered, sightseeing tours booked, preparations going very well!
Hi everyone. We apologise for this tweet. On re-reading after a good night's sleep, we agree it was made in poor taste and does not represent how FOSDEM wants to relate to the community. We do not want to normalise serious problems. We should indeed do better.
Weather forecast for this weekend: sat showers and sun light rain, around 5°C , so don't forget your raincoat and/or an umbrella! (But veteran FOSDEM visitors are probably not surprised ;) )
Dress warm for FOSDEM day #2 ;)
Weather in Brussels, 07.02.2021
On Sunday it will be overcast with light snowfall during the day. Morning temperatures around -1 °C. Low temperatures at night will be around -5°C. We have weak northeasterly winds.
For people interested in our older video archive, we started uploading the video footage from FOSDEM 2017 on our youtube channel and we plan to upload some older years too in the near future piped.video/user/fosdemtalks
VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
FOSDEM is a conference entirely made by volunteers. While a small crew
works on it year-round, most of the work during the conference is done by
a large, enthusiastic group of great people who donate their time to make
FOSDEM happen: you! volunteers.fosdem.org/
Thanks to our tireless volunteers, most of build-up was finished in record time. Stands are laid out with crisp new tablecloths, Infodesks assembled, Devrooms prepared. ULB Solbosch stands ready for thousands of FOSS hackers this weekend.
We seem to experience some difficulties with the matrix platform but you can watch video streams live through fosdem.org/2021/schedule/str…
clicking "watch live!"
Now that we're all rested from the holidays, time for you all to sign up for some fun activities: fosdem.org/2020/news/2019-12… . Jokes aside, it would be literally impossible to make FOSDEM happen without all the wonderful people who volunteer, so thank you :)!
Our plans for next weekend are pretty much complete! You may want to plan some highlights in your visit: fosdem.org/2020/schedule/
Pro-tip if you’re a new visitor: unless you’re staying in one room, don’t plan entire days of back to back talks, getting around takes time.
Please note, despite the keynote mentioning the t-shirt shop, we still have some issues with the t-shirt sales. So please refrain of trying to order a t-shirt yet. We'll report later when it's up...
This year there is no rush as there are no limits to the amount of shirts :)
If your partner would like to accompany you to Brussels but is not interested in the FOSDEM conference, we offer free guided tours of Brussels to the spouses/partners of FOSDEM visitors. Please register through the mail-address found on this page:
