In Seismic, there are many bright and talented artists who merge art with Web3. Recently, a dedicated group was created for them a space for collaborations, joint projects, and exchanging experience. This is where a true digital art community is taking shape, already creating its own history.
In the coming weeks, several issues of ENCRYPTED BY DESIGN will be dedicated specifically to Seismic artists. We’ll speak with those who shape the project’s visual identity, create unique works, and inspire others.
Today’s guest is
@bestie_ell , an active community member and the author of over 160 unique PFPs, including contest-winning ones. His works are instantly recognizable, and his style has already become part of Seismic’s visual atmosphere. In addition, he actively shares his experience, gives advice to newcomers, and helps shape the project’s creative community
Here’s how sees it TROTSKY
🔵 How did you first learn about the Seismic project?
To be honest, I don’t remember where I first heard about it. I just joined and stayed right away
🔵 What did you like most about the project, and why did you decide to stay in the community?
I liked the organically healthy and strong community that grows every day
🔵 How would you describe the atmosphere within the Seismic community?
If I look at this question poetically — I imagine the Seismic community as a group of people sitting around a campfire, drinking tea, and sharing their stories
🔵 Tell us about the avatar contest — what did you put into your work and how did you approach creating them?
At some point, I thought I needed an avatar for Twitter, so I made one for myself. And at that moment, I found out about the PFP contest. The thought that reinventing the wheel is pointless is in my head 24/7, so I just adapted my avatar for Seismic. That’s how it all started
🔵 How many avatars have you drawn for Seismic members?
As of 13.08, I’ve drawn 163 PFPs, but I’m sure there will be many more because the queue is constantly growing
🔵 On average, how much time does it take to create one work?
If we’re talking specifically about PFPs, then on average, one takes 15–20 minutes. Of course, there were cases when I made one in 4 minutes, but that’s an exception, because there are also some that take up to an hour
🔵 Is there a Seismic work you’re most proud of? Why that one?
I love each of my works for Seismic because what you do with love always turns out better. If I had to choose one, it would be when
@NoxxW3 reached out to me and asked me to draw a banner for the Seismic server — that was a great honor for me
nitter.app/NoxxW3/status/19431507…
🔵 What helps you stay motivated and keep creating content for the community?
I work with great enthusiasm because I feel the feedback. I value the community, talk to many people, often hang out in chat, and the communication is truly organic. Another factor is the Seismic team — they always support my work, leave comments, put my art in the spotlight, and sometimes even shill it in other chats. I especially want to thank Noxx — this guy really helps me, keeps track of the PFP list, and supports me non-stop. Over this time, we’ve become friends, and I really value his contribution to the community and his support
🔵 If someone wants to start drawing art but has never done it before and has no experience — what advice would you give them to start?
If you’re reading this — listen carefully. There are no secrets to “success” — I can only say one thing: sit down and do it.
The whole secret is in practice and believing in yourself. Impostor syndrome will be there the whole way — there’s no avoiding it. There’s no limit to perfection; everything comes down to your visual library, your individual style, and practice. Start by copying pictures, train your hand, just open Pinterest and begin
🔵 What programs or tools would you recommend for beginners without advanced drawing skills?
I think that if we’re talking about digital drawing, the simplest program would be Paint Tool SAI. I started with it when I didn’t even have a graphics tablet and drew with a mouse. This program has a vector tool that imitates a tablet well even with an ordinary mouse. And if we’re talking about traditional drawing, then just paper and a gel pen :)
🔵 Can you recommend any useful courses, YouTube channels, or other resources to improve skills?
Of course you can check out my YouTube channel (
piped.video/@dtrxtsky). I don’t really talk much about theory; I’m more inclined toward achieving everything through practice. I’d be happy if you took a look
🔵 How do you work on improving your skills? Do you have a personal learning plan?
Not really, I just keep doing, doing, doing - and roughly every 30th work brings some kind of insight, and the next ones are already a step above the previous ones. In general, I’d recommend finding 1–2 very good artists, preferably with a high skill level, who draw in the style you’d like to master. Study their work, look for breakdowns, and when working on your own, keep their art open on your second monitor and try to replicate their techniques. Another tip just copy references: open Pinterest, find what you need and what interests you, and make quick sketches daily and consistently
🔵 What techniques or styles are especially close to you when creating art for Seismic?
If we’re talking about regular art, the technique and style are always my own — something close to comic style, but still in progress, because I’ve only been working in this direction for a short time. If we’re talking about PFPs, there are hints of my main style in them, but I try to keep them minimalist — probably closer to chibi, anime, and cartoon
🔵 How do you deal with routine when there’s no inspiration?
When I have no inspiration, I spend time with the most wonderful person in the world, who always inspires, motivates, and supports me
🔵 If you had the opportunity to design the entire visual style of Seismic, where would you start?
Overall, I like Seismic’s visuals even the main page of their website looks super beautiful. I love that kind of minimalism. And in a way, I’m already working on Seismic’s design - I make PFPs for the server. Obviously, I can’t make one for everyone, but Seismic is its community and we’re already designing it together
🔵 If Seismic were a music genre — which one would it be and why?
Haha, I don’t think there’s one genre — the Seismic community is very diverse, with people from different countries and cultures, and that’s great. So Seismic could be like a radio wave that plays different genres each time
🔵 What would you say to people who have just joined Seismic and are still hesitant to share their creative work?
I’d say — welcome, the Seismic community is waiting for you. Don’t be shy
Big thanks to TROTSKY for such an amazing interview for your openness, honest answers, and valuable advice. Your story, experience, and creative approach are truly inspiring, and your work has already become part of Seismic’s unique atmosphere
ENCRYPTED BY DESIGN continues. In the next episode, we’ll meet
