Instead, they downplay it by calling it 'e-commerce' or saying he 'just built a website.'
As for the claim that the platform reduced violence associated with the drug trade, there has never been any evidence to support this claim. His attorneys mentioned this argument during the trial, yet, like much of their defense, no supporting evidence was ever introduced.
While I believe there is an argument that Silk Road may have reduced violence related to street-level drug purchases, this represents only a very small fraction of the overall violence linked to narcotics trafficking. The real violence is happening long before those drugs every reach your mailbox.
