Dear #AlgoFam,
It's come to my attention that there's been some unrest and, frankly, unwarranted accusations regarding @WayruNetwork's expansion to other blockchain networks. Let's set the record straight and, perhaps, remind ourselves what Wayru is here for and the values we stand by.
First, no one's leaving Algorand behind. WayruOS's expansion to IoTeX and/or other chains isn't a departure; it's growth. WayruOS is cross-chain and hardware agnostic. We started in Algorand and expanded to other chains. It's about embracing inclusivity over exclusivity. The path forward for Wayru involves multiple blockchains to enhance our mission of global connectivity; yes, the end goal is connecting people. You sometimes forget that this project is about connectivity FIRST. Nonetheless, we are not migrating; we are expanding. Soon, users will be able to choose where to mint their Wayru Hotspot, Algorand, IoTeX, or others. Hopefully bringing more people online in the process.
Second, we received a $20K grant for being part of the Algorand Miami Accelerator in Dec 2021. That's all the grants we've received, and we've done nothing but overdeliver since. I understand the community's reaction because many others have taken millions and left you in the dust. Yet, Wayru is facing the heat for actually sticking around and continuing to build on Algorand? I don’t get it. To those labeling us as 'scammers' or suggesting we're pulling a 'rug,' your narrative is not only inaccurate and false but damaging. If skepticism has clouded your judgment to the extent that all you can do is hurl insults, perhaps it's time for some introspection.
And third, the complains come from people that haven't even engaged with our Mobile app or minted a Wayru device on Algorand. So, where does this sense of betrayal come from? If you're genuinely invested in Wayru's journey on Algorand or any blockchain, for that matter, show it through action, not just words. If you want a project to have more presence on your preferred chain, use the tools, support the project, and buy their products and services. Wayru built on Algorand everything needed for the network infra to work when there was nothing available for DePINs and will continue to do so because we don’t complain; we build.
To wrap up, Wayru is about breaking barriers, not creating them. Our expansion is a testament to our commitment to connectivity, not a departure from our roots. We're in this for the long haul, across every chain that aligns with our vision.
We cannot please everyone, but we can definitely try to connect everyone who is not connected to the Internet today.

Here at Wayru, we're not just after quick wins. We're focused on a bigger picture, so let me tell you about some awesome stuff we did this year:
🇺🇳 We partnered with UN / UNHCR to set up internet hotspots for over 2,500 people in Guayaquil, Ecuador, but ended up connecting over 60,000. It's a self-sustaining network giving free internet every day. Big win!
📶 We also rolled out WayruOS, a system that lets any WiFi device make cryptocurrency. Now, we are compatible with more than ten devices, which will shake things up in 2024.
📱 Our Wayru WiFi app, mapping over 5 million WiFi networks, hit the scene. It's bringing Web 2 folks into the Web3 world, helping many people get online.
🤝 We connected a quarter-million people to the internet this year, using up a whopping 300,000,000 MB of data, yes 300 MILLION. That's a huge impact on our community.
I won't spoil the surprise for 2024, but trust me, it's gonna be awesome. We've set the bar high, and our goals for next year are even bigger. But you know what? Our team's totally ready. We're on fire!

Actualmente, hay 2.8 millones de conexiones fijas a Internet en Ecuador, mientras que hay más de 5 millones de hogares, lo que deja a un gran porcentaje de los hogares sin acceso a Internet de acuerdo con estadísticas del INEC y la ARCOTEL.
Es cierto que hay conectividad móvil con cobertura decente, pero 4 de cada 5 usuarios de Internet móvil dependen de recargas prepago enriqueciendo a las grandes telcos por migajas de acceso, lo que limita significativamente su acceso y uso de Internet.

Back in 2018, I got published in a local newspaper with my previous startup, where they called us the "airbnb" of WiFi. This was before DePIN even existed.
@RedFenixNetwork closed due to Covid. All stores where we had the WiFi units, closed for months. This startup was very local and we had no way to scale.
Several months later I released the first website and white paper for @WayruNetwork, proposing the use of Blockchain technology, distributed ownership and community effort to change the trajectory of the Telecom sector forever.
