absolute genius marketing play by @cap. they're now the #1 result for "loom video downloader".
they offer a legitimately useful, free service, then use the landing page to try and win you over to their competing product.
i've actually been looking for a Loom replacement for a long time. i've used Zight for the past little while but it's subpar. will definitely be giving Cap a try - nice work team!
Open source isn’t a gimmick.
It’s an ethos. A way of building. Community. Commitment.
If you can’t stick to that promise, you probably shouldn’t ever attempt it in the first place.
Was testing @cap by @richiemcilroy and it’s really really smooth.
I think I will start using it instead of screen studio, I feel like cap is lighter.
To win in this space just make something lighter and good.
I think it's time @Cap brought on a growth person
someone who can live and breath the product, dogfooding it, creating content etc. perfect role for a generalist.
if you create cool stuff and want to be part of the journey, DM me 🫡
ok It's been 4 days since I said this. @Cap now has a twin sister... Rend.
since then there's been 650+ commits and the entire thing is built. more on this soon.
I'm so so excited for this project. early benchmarks have been insane. Cap is about to get A LOT faster.
one part of me really wants to experiment and launch complimentary products under the @Cap umbrella, that we can also dog food and be the first customer of… e.g an OSS Mux alternative. for the past 3 years I’ve built complex video pipelines and I know I could build a great platform here.
another part of my brain just tells me to stay focused. That’s the part currently winning.
it’s never been easier to build stuff, and at the same time get potentially distracted.
but because it’s so easy to build stuff now, is it less risky to branch out and do more things and increase your surface area?
I’m moving faster than ever currently. In the past day I’ve built an entire Chrome extension for Cap, improved performance of the desktop app in several areas and merged a bunch of PR’s.
decisions, decisions. I’m sure a lot of people are feeling like this right now.
Then we moved from @loom to @cap since Loom wants insane money for basic screen recording. $24/month/user where Cap is cleaner, significantly less expensive, and has all the same AI features as Loom did. Plus the founder is actually responsive.
Cap v0.5.1 has landed, and agents can now use Cap.
