What @dawnstaley did this year will go down in history. It was quite possibly the best coaching job ever in the history of college basketball.
She lost every single starter from a team last year that was arguably the best team in the country. This year was labeled as a “rebuilding year”.
She thought about retiring before the year. Dawn Staley is a leader and knew what she needed to do - recruit her ass off and develop her young talent. I think it worked… In the national championship game tonight she played 9 girls for an average of 22 minutes each. Every single one of them would be a starter on any team in the country.
The culture of this team is unmatched. All of them play with such unselfishness and share one thing: the passion to win and be the best. It doesn’t matter to them who scores more or gets the spotlight … just win.

This was Kentuckys Super Bowl. Their fans had a white out. Their Barstool account tweeted 75 times a day all week long. They did some real cute videos. Their entire student section wore “stupid sunglasses”.

Many of y’all know I’ve been around awhile. I’ve seen many of these rivalry games. Some good, some bad.
I don’t remember one that meant so much as this one tomorrow. Forget the playoff for a minute.
Las Vegas had our win total at 5.5 going into the season. We “squeaked” by Old Dominion and half the fan base was ready to fire Beamer. Some said we couldn’t win more than 3-4 games this year. A few weeks later, we sat at 3-3 and only a very select few of you thought 9-3 “was on the table.”
You know who never wavered? Shane Beamer. You know who knew 9-3 was on the table? The entire football depth chart. You know who worked their asses off day in and day out to show the country what we had this year? All of the football coaching staff and personnel.
Let’s make sure this Gamecock football team knows how special they are to us and make sure they feel our support tomorrow! Whether you are in that nasty stadium, watching on TV or listening to the radio … cheer loud and cheer often.
