The 2025 Bracket Matrix Review – When I started doing this 20 years ago, little did I know a) I’d still be running this and b) how much the bracketology community will have grown in that time. A big thanks to the 249 of you who submitted an entry this season.
Conference tournament play tips off on Thursday! As with everything this season, the championship schedule is subject to change. This pdf will be kept up-to-date as needed.

The matrix did have Rutgers (218/229, 95.2%) in its field. In percentage terms, this snub is only exceeded in matrix history by 2011 VaTech (97.8%) and 2007 Syracuse (96.7%). It’s also the 5th season in a row that a team in at least 90% of brackets was not chosen for the tourney
Finally, the winner of the 2023 Bracket Matrix competition is @JakeLiker with 67 teams chosen correctly, all 67 seeded within one line and 57 seeded correctly. Congratulations!
Only one bracketologist correctly picked the 68 teams in the field and it was the team of @SirBurt and @MikeCampagnone for the second year in a row. Congrats!
A big thank you to all who visited and supported the site this season. Apparently, over the weekend, the matrix reached 8 figures in lifetime number of hits so shoutout to those 10 people who clicked refresh a million times each.
Just wanted to pass along my thanks to all of you who contributed or visited the matrix this season.
Enjoy the tournament and if you happen to be at the West Regional next week, I will see you there!
Bracketologists: the matrix has been updated with scoring data. Please double-check for accuracy and lemme know if something needs to be checked.
The 5-year rankings will be updated tomorrow.

The matrix consensus missed on Virginia (23/226 brackets) and instead chose Oklahoma (149/226). There were also several multi-seed misses including Nevada (10 vs. matrix 7), Gonzaga (5 vs. 7), FAU (8 vs. 10), New Mexico (11 vs. 9), Boise St. (10 vs. 8), and Utah St (8 vs. 6).
Congrats to UConn on another excellent tournament run. I appreciate everyone for following the Bracket Matrix this year. And a big thank you to my contributors on a most exceptional season.
The winner of the 2021 Bracket Matrix competition is a longtime matrix contributor: Patrick Stevens @D1scourse He had 53 teams seeded correctly and 12 more off by 1 seed line.
Last matrix update before the selection show now posted. I'll manually move teams in and out of the field if there's any BS (bid stealing).
Final matrix with scoring will be posted tomorrow night.

Tonight closes the book on another great tourney. Congrats to the national champions, Kansas.

I've paid very little attention to the NIT side of things this season but with @nybuckets back at it, I decided to plug some numbers into my old NIT worksheet and see what comes out.
With that, this crazy season comes to a close. Congrats to Baylor on the win and the championship!
Thanks to all of you for following along the matrix and a special thanks to the 203 people who contributed. Truly can't do this without you.

Next matrix update will be Monday but of the brackets updated so far today, here's what they think the top 16 should be:
1 - Villanova, Virginia, Xavier, Purdue
2 - Kansas, Auburn, Texas Tech, Michigan St
3 - Clemson, Cincinnati, Duke, UNC
4 - Ohio St, Tenn, UofA, URI
Later this week, I’ll have an update to the 5-year rankings, my one bracket guess for the tourney and a crazy expansion idea.
Bracketologists: please double-check your matrix score for accuracy.
Horizon League tournament play starts today! In addition, the Patriot League announced today it has added an opening round on March 3 so I've updated my chart.

Here's my guess for this year. With my bracket fatigue from maintaining the matrix all season, I only spend a few minutes filling out one bracket so don't dwell on this for too long.
2 brackets went 68 for 68 this season: mine @bracketproject and From the Rafters.
Outside of the matrix, shoutout to @MattNorlander who was also 68 for 68 in his prediction.
The matrix had Texas A&M (200 brackets) in the field while Notre Dame (75 brackets) was out. The Aggies become the 9th team since 2006 to be listed in at least 90% of brackets but not chosen. It's also the 4th consecutive tourney this has occurred.
With that, the 2019 Bracket Matrix is complete. Enjoy the best two days on the sports calendar and if you're in San Jose for the games this weekend, I'll see you there!
The matrix would have had West Virginia (243/249, 97.6%) and Indiana (213/249) in the field. In percentage terms, WV’s snub is only surpassed by 2011 Virginia Tech (97.8%).
In 6 of the last 7 tourneys, the committee has snubbed a team listed in at least 90% of brackets.
3/5 Matrix Update
Cincinnati moves up to a 2, Michigan moves up to a 3.
Last 4 in: USC, Providence, Baylor, Alabama
First 4 out: Syracuse, Marquette, Louisville, Oklahoma State
Next 4 out: Utah, Nebraska, Boise State, LSU

At the bar and the two guys next to me were wondering if the guy on TV was named Charles Bronson or Charles Barkley.
I looked up and it was Shaq in a General insurance commercial.
With that, another season is in the books. Congrats to Florida on an amazing run to the championship!
Thanks again to all the bracketologists for your contributions to the matrix. Special shoutout to @BracketWAG who is hanging it up after this season.
Congrats to UConn on a dominating tournament performance!
Thanks again to all of you for following along this season and to all the contributors who make the matrix what it is.
