Dear Dad,
I doubt you'll ever see this, but I hope you do. Growing up, you were never around for my sister and I. Sporting events, concerts, parent-teacher conferences - you were never there for any of it. You were never there when I got my arm raised for winning a wrestling tournament.
It wasn't because you were too busy, or you had to work or Mom wouldn't let you. You simply just never made an effort.
You never taught me any of the things that Dads are supposed to teach their kids.. how to change a tire, how to fix a running toilet, nothing. I had to do those things on my own.
But honestly, I am thankful for this lesson you taught me: You taught me exactly what not to do with my kids. My relationship with my kids will forever be better because of you. Sadly, I can't say the same about our relationship.
