Maybe companies should stop grouping in mobile/live service-only people as "gamers" & count that segment of the market separately.
Only a small minority of studios, from indies to AAA ones, have a successful live service game that people dedicate their whole gaming lives to.
I'm willing to bet that there's a huge overlap between the 40% who exclusively play GTA Online, Fortnite, Roblox, etc. and the 30% who won't buy a new game in 2025.
So if that's the case, maybe stop trying to make games that appeal to that crowd? Instead, develop games that appeal to the 60% of the market who want to play new games & will purchase multiple games each year?

BotW alone is far more exciting than just Mario Kart, but even then, if you liked Mario Kart, MK8 DX was brand new to the vast majority of gamers.
That's significantly better than just MKW. Not only that, we knew we were getting a new 3D Mario, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, FE Warriors, etc. all within 7 months of launch.
The only new game big game we know is releasing soon for Switch 2 is Donkey Kong.

PS4 does not have ray tracing. PS4 also has a mechanical HDD, not an SSD, so no fast load times. Lastly, PS4 did not have a Dualsense controller, so basically everything you said was wrong.

I genuinely don't care if it's "sustainable." I care what's good for me, the consumer.
People claim GP is "bad for game devs," acting as if 3rd parties just wake up one day to find their games were magically added to Game Pass. If it was so bad, they wouldn't continue to put their games on the service.
Atlus put all their Persona games on it, then made Persona 3 Reload a day 1 GP game, then just added Metaphor to it, and now announced Persona 4 Revival will be a day 1 game. That's several years of continuing to do this, so obviously they are benefiting from it.
MS put Call of Duty on it last year, and everyone said it would fail. It didn't, still sold a ton, and now this next CoD was announced for GP as well.
So something is obviously working well enough for them. My only interest is "are the games I want to play available on it?" and "is it worth the cost for ME?"
If either of those are "no," then I won't be using it.

We all enjoyed playing Goldeneye split screen growing up, but try playing it now & it feels rough.
