The long, dark night of ultra-partisan gerrymandering is over, and a new day for democracy now dawns in the Badger State. The stroke of Governor Evers’s pen today marks the end of the shameful period that began in 2011, when Republican lawmakers—bound in secrecy by nondisclosure agreements as they worked with operatives at a lobbying firm—drew legislative lines that guaranteed that even landslide election losses wouldn’t cost them their majorities. The result was one of the most egregious, extreme partisan gerrymanders in American political history. Ever since, Republican politicians in Wisconsin have used their power to take more power away from the people of our state—restricting access to the ballot, removing authorities that voters had entrusted to statewide elected officials like the Governor and Attorney General, and smashing the freedoms of workers to organize and advocate for themselves. For thirteen years, the democracy-proof legislature has been laying siege to democracy itself. Last April, years of tireless organizing culminated with Wisconsinites electing Justice Janet Protasiewicz in a landslide, charting a new course for our state that has led us to the new, vastly fairer maps signed into law by Gov. Evers today. In November, at long last, Wisconsin voters will have a real choice in who represents them in Madison. The majority will determine the majority. The candidate recruitment process now goes into overdrive. And at the same time, we remain vigilant in case Republican politicians in Madison and their allies once again, through the courts or any other strategy, attempt to thwart majority rule. Today, we made progress towards true democracy in Wisconsin—thanks to the efforts of so many grassroots activists, tireless supporters, and elected leaders. We stand ready to fight back against any attempt by Republicans to undermine the path towards democracy and accountability, and we commit to doing everything in our power to ending the Speakership of Robin Vos and paving the way towards a Democratic trifecta that can, at long last, translate the will of the people of Wisconsin into the law of the land.
BREAKING: I've promised from the beginning that I will always try to do the right thing. Today, I'm keeping that promise and I'm signing fair maps for Wisconsin. Wisconsin, for the first time in over a decade, we will not have some of the most gerrymandered maps in America.

Last night, the state of the State Of The Union was strong. If you want to know how the speech played with base Democrats in a battleground state, this about sums it up: halfway through the speech, Portage County Democratic Party co-chair Gary Hawley leaned over to me and said, “He doesn’t seem like an old guy. He seems like a fighter.” Millions of Americans were thinking the same thing. Trump was probably thinking it too—which is why he was posting so furiously that Truth Social kept collapsing. This was the unfiltered reality-check moment that American politics needed. If you were involved in organizing any of the State of the Union watch parties last night—thank you. That speech was even more energizing to watch in good company. I was in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, watching with county Democratic Party members at their office. After it was over, I asked folks there about moments that stood out. Here are a few: • “Look, folks, we have a simple choice. We can fight about fixing the border, or we can fix it. I’m ready to fix it.” • “No billionaire should pay a lower federal tax rate than a teacher, a sanitation worker or a nurse.” • “If anyone here tries to cut Social Security or Medicare or raise the retirement age, I will stop you.” • “I want to give public-school teachers a raise.” • “You can’t love your country only when you win.” • People really noticed how Republicans didn’t stand up for things that everyone should support. And they loved how Republicans stood for Biden’s tribute to John Lewis—and then Biden turned the tables: “If you truly want to honor him and all the heroes who marched with him… Pass the Freedom to Vote Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act!” • The story about Kate Cox, the mother in Dallas who was denied a medically necessary abortion in Texas. The warning of a national abortion ban. Biden’s question: “My God, what freedom else would you take away?” • And then the crystal-clear promise: “If you, the American people, send me a Congress that supports the right to choose, I promise you, I will restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again.” Beyond all these things, that room full of Democrats noticed Biden’s energy. His scrappiness. His readiness to take on his critics and make a difference for people. Millions of people will need to work their hearts out for the next 241 days to defeat Trump and win another term for President Biden. Last night, those folks saw a champion, someone fighting for the causes they believe in. That’s exactly what this moment needed. Consider the moment met.

2,499 votes. That's how close the GOP came supermajorities in both chambers of Wisconsin's state legislature. If they'd won, they could've rewritten election rules—and perhaps overturned the 2024 presidential. To Dem Assembly Leader @RepGreta, candidates, volunteers—THANK YOU!

Here's my take on the Woodward book: Brett Kavanaugh is an extremist whose confirmation would end Roe, kill protections for pre-existing conditions, and dismantle worker's rights & enviro protections, and the Senate switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
