Texas didn’t beat any top 25 teams. Arizona state beat 3, but because they were in the Big 12, nobody cares. Those 3 ranked big 12 teams went on to win their bowl games, with BYU stomping Colorado and Iowa state beating Miami. The big 12 deserved the spot that Indiana had.

I’m shaking. My 3 year old just asked why BYU wasn’t playing: I said: “Sorry buddy BYU didn’t make the playoffs” Him: Why? “Well, the committee felt their 2 loss schedule was worse than everyone else’s.” My 3 year old: But dad, BYU only lost 2 games by a combined 9 points. One of their losses is to a playoff team, and their best win is against another playoff team. Why would the committee ignore them for an at large bid when their resume is clearly stronger than Indiana’s? Indiana has no business being here and the Big 10 is overrated anyway. Penn state didn’t beat anyone, and lost to Ohio State, who also didn’t beat anyone. The only team who did anything is Oregon. Even Texas has zero top 25 wins. Make this make sense, dad. Why is BYU kicked to the curb because of one bad loss, while all these other schools are forgiven for their bad losses, with weaker strength of record? You know why, dad? It’s because of preseason rankings. Also, Notre dame lost to NIU at home and only beat Army and Navy, who are only ranked because they beat bad teams. BYU beat SMU and K-State, that’s stronger than Army & Navy, and BYU’s loss to Kansas is way better than NIU. Make it make sense, dad. *how am I supposed to explain this*

I was going to try and write a long thread today, thoughtfully outlining why the committee’s bias towards Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn state is a positive feedback loop that keeps them all highly ranked, while SMU & BYU have are in a committee induced negative feedback loop that keeps them both lower than they should be. I ran out of time to do it well, so I will probably get torched. But it goes something like this 🧵

Am I in the wrong here? I have four boys under five years old. They play in the backyard ALL day. It’s not rare that a ball or two goes over the neighbor’s fence. Whiffle balls, squishy balls, that type of thing. One of our neighbors gets so mad and have been been keeping the balls for 3 years. It’s an old grouchy widow and her grouchy 60 year old single daughter. They’re very rude, have never introduced themselves to us, don’t say hi, and have only spoken to me to complain about the balls. Their concern is simply that they hate picking them up. But.. I’m not going to stop my boys from playing in the backyard with whiffle bald and nerf balls. They know the rules. They’re scared of the “mean neighbor” and try not to let balls go over the fence. But it happens. And it’ll keep happening. Especially when they have friends over. I’ve resolved to just smile, say sorry, enforce our rules (no hitting or throw on that side of the yard) and continue buying my kids new whiffle balls when we run out. What would you do?

This is not true. I’ve seen NIL operations from the inside out at BYU, going back to day 1. BYU follows the rules as well as anybody. They do things “right” to a level that was even frustrating, at times. BYU is playing with the big boys, but they’re playing by the rules.
BYU is lying to players to get them in the transfer portal and making promises they can’t keep.

I don’t think BYU fans should be complaining about the media’s infatuation with Colorado. Without it, Colorado is just another above average 3-loss team, and BYU’s win over them wouldn’t be special. But thanks to ESPN’s fetish with Colorado, BYU stomped the heisman, a top NFL QB prospect, and the media darling Coach. With millions tuned in. The overhype will earn BYU a top 15 preseason ranking.

This is a top 10 LA police chase of all time. Multiple car jackings. A milk tanker. And a getaway? The suspects were chugging along in a milk-tanker truck. They needed a new car. But with ground patrol on their tail, they needed to do get creative. So they shook the ground cruisers by going backwards on a freeway. Police cars won’t follow backwards on a freeway. Then they got off and went under a bridge to carjack someone else. They took a white pickup truck. Now they could go faster. With no ground units on their tail, they just needed to shake the chopper. So then they went under another overpass and stopped. The helicopters couldn’t see. After a moment or two, the white truck emerged, rolling forward at about 3 mph. The helipoctoers spotlight stayed on it. And within a couple more seconds, the ground units caught up. They followed the truck until it came to a stop against a parked car. But the suspects weren’t in it! They had left it in drive, and fled in a newly acquired black bmw. They carjacked that bmw under the overpass, out of sight from the chopper! They’re currently at large. Epic.

If BYU athletes mostly hold their swears for the locker room, more credit to them. Athletes cuss. They motivate eachother. The locker room should be private. Whoever leaked this is stupid.

I had the pleasure of starting the ROC back in the day and installing some of the traditions you see today— 1. Every school has a student section. BYU was later on the trend due to the old rotating seating. We definitely found inspiration from established student sections nationwide, and even consulted with them during our process, but never talked about the Muss. At the time, I don’t think it something aspirational or worth copying 2. Every school makes noise on 3rd down so this is kinda dumb. 3. Did Utah steal their fight song from Mickey Mouse? I’ve always wondered. 4. Idk what YGuyz is except for this pic but… BYU’s HC is a former Utah DC and BYU’s OC is the former Utah OC and BYU’s DC was a coach at Utah for 12 years and Utah’s HC went to BYU. My guess is Kalani and Whitt are both secure enough in their lives to readily admit that some of their current systems and processes were inspired by their former teams/coaches.

Ohio State’s best win is against Penn state. And the only reason that’s considered a marque win is because Penn state is ranked #3! But why is Penn state ranked #3? What have they done that another school, say SMU, hasn’t? Penn state looks good because their only loss is to Ohio State, but Ohio State looks good because their best win is Penn State. Are we just supposed to ignore the Michigan loss? Ohio State also is the only team to beat Indiana, who is massively overrated. Indiana’s best win is probably against that Mediocre Michigan team that beat Ohio state. Other than that, Indiana hasn’t beaten anyone notable. Yet they’re ranked #9!
