It was a pleasure to join the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Parliament today to discuss tackling terrorism and domestic threats from Iran. We were joined by the former vice-president of the European Parliament and President of the International Committee in Search of Justice, Dr Alejo Vidal Quadras, shared his powerful testimony.
Dr Quadras was the target of an assassination attempt in Madrid on 9 November 2023, after he was shot, he gathered all his strength to write “Iran” on his mobile indicating who was responsible for the criminal act.
Both the Ministry of Intelligence and Security and the IRGC, have been responsible for numerous terrorist acts outside Iran, and brazen assassinations of opposition figures in various European and neighbouring countries has been the Iranian regime’s modus operandi since its inception.
I am proud to stand with those who oppose the medieval Iranian regime and fully support their quest for freedom and democracy. We must take decisive action to counter the Iranian regime’s terrorism in Europe and our police and security services need every legal tool to combat and tackle the domestic and international threat Iran poses.

It's a big day today. My #petabductionbill is due to pass its third Reading in the #Commons and I'd like to thank all my parliamentary colleagues for supporting it.
If it passes it will remove pets from being in the same legal category as inanimate objects that have been stolen.
It will create the specific offence of dog and cat abduction and it will legally recognise that dogs and cats are sentient beings capable of experiencing distress and other emotional trauma if they are stolen from their owners or keepers.

There will be a short memorial service today at 12 noon to commemorate his life at his statue on Chalkwell Esplanade.

💐I am delighted to report that the usual buckets of flowers will be put back today at the Sir David statue and that some lovely residents have already started putting things right themselves.
I am also really pleased that over-night enquiries have revealed that the changes we saw yesterday were due to mistakes in the new MPs office, sadly followed by the Council.
Again, I am very pleased that the new MP has acknowledged his mistake and will be taking action to put matters right. I very much hope that he learns from this and takes a more personal interest when allowing correspondence to be sent out from his office on such an important issue to residents and our community. Allowing a brand, new member of staff to respond on such a sensitive issue shows a level of naivety you wouldn’t expect from an MP, new or not.
However, the important thing is that all well that end’s well. Our tributes to Sir David in Chalkwell are precious and should be respected forever.

Today I raised the plight of my constituents, Frances Neil and Deborah Dalton, co-coordinators of Southend's WASPI group. WASPI women were born between 6 April 1950 and 5 April 1960 and are affected by the sudden changes to their state pension age.
Frances and Deborah came to my 'Super Surgery' last Friday to seek my support in Parliament to obtain proper compensation for the 10,000 women in Southend and millions of women across the UK affected by the changes.
I will continue to stand up for all of the WASPI women in Southend and I push Ministers to do the right thing when the Ombudsman concludes their investigation.
