1) We decided to show his original work after "considerable disagreements in the office."
The real issue was:
2) From the very beginning, I emailed every artist in the show stating that we needed the artwork files formatted in 9:16 for proper display. He sent his in the wrong format. It would have been easy if I could just crop it for him, but in this case, cropping would have cut off important text in the piece.
3) I messaged and emailed him multiple times about the issue, and I sent a photo showing how it would look on a 9:16 screen. Yet I received no response. This is the reason I had to pull the piece in the end.
If you’ve visited SuperRare’s exhibitions before, you know how carefully we approach the IRL presentation of works. We collaborate with the best artists in the space, and so much thought goes into every decision, we treat digital art as if it’s being displayed in a museum.
But congratulations to Jack, I guess. We’ve now made this provocative piece even more dramatic. CT is also part of the show.
The funniest thing to happen in my career yet:
Super Rare asked me to pull this piece from their show & make another one.
Told me it wasn't suitable for the trad art gallery crowd who'd be there.
I chose not to.
They apologised, said it was going in, then pulled it anyway😆
