If you would have told me while querying my first novel that I’d publish all these books, I don’t think I'd have believed you. It’s amazing to see how far the little ideas in my head have come and that all of you have followed the journeys of Starr, Maverick, Brianna, and Nic 1/2

Every day that Breonna Taylor's killers walk free, it becomes more and more apparent that cops can walk into your home, kill you, and get away with it.
If y'all aren't angry about that, I don't know what to say.
Congratulations to @LilNasX and @BillyRayCyrus for winning #CMAawards Musical Event of the Year for "Old Town Road (Remix)". The winner was just announced on @GoodMorningAmerica!
For over 10 days now, around half the residents of Jackson, Mississippi have not had running water.
And nobody is talking about it on a national scale.
I am begging the national media to please pay attention. There is a crisis happening in Jackson.
I'm a black girl from Mississippi who sometimes didn't have lights. Sometimes my family was on welfare. I'm straight from the hood, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
The trailer just dropped for a movie based on a book I wrote.
Nothing is impossible.
With that, bye Twitter 😂
After my mom's childhood best friend left Mississippi as a kid, they lost touch. Mom named me after her and hoped that one day she would find her & reconnect.
Today, I found Angela's number & called. She's been searching for my mom too. We're surprising Mom later on Facetime ☺️
Today I paid off the mortgage on my house in Mississippi and gave it to my mom. It's hers now and paid for. She cried buckets.
Thank you all for making that possible.
Today, I met a 7-year-old Black girl who was amazed to know that I'm an author.
I showed her my friends, other Black women authors, and her jaw dropped.
We look like her, and we're doing what she wants to do. Suddenly, her dreams seemed more possible.
Representation matters.
It's emotionally taxing to have my book(s) banned. But not because they're my books, but because all I can think about is the message it sends to the Black kids who see themselves in my books.
They deserve to have their stories told whether it makes you comfortable or not.
Because nothing is impossible and libraries are amazing community resources that can be anything we want them to be, here's a thread of playgrounds inside of libraries all around the world.

One of the simplest yet most moving news photos I’ve ever seen —
Barack Obama and Marian Robinson watch the results come in, Election Night 2008.
Pic: David Katz.
Anthony Mackie was in my movie. I talked to him all the time on set and during press. He and my mom talked all the time too. He loved him some her.
And even we won't approach him in public 😂
I also want to point out that in this election:
1. We finally got rid of the Confederate flag (by over 70%)
2. We legalized medical marijuana
3. We removed the Jim Crow era electoral college-esque system for governor races
Again, change is possible here.
“At one point, one officer says, "You're acting like a child," to which the girl can be heard responding, "I am a child!"
Black children are never seen as children. I’m beyond pissed at this point.
A 9-year-old girl was handcuffed and pepper sprayed by police officers responding to a report of "family trouble" in Rochester, New York, on Wednesday, according to Rochester Deputy Police Chief Andre Anderson. cnn.it/3pyq7P8
Writing tip: have a document called “deleted parts.” Anytime you’re writing or editing and delete a line, put it in there. You may find a way to use it later. #amwriting
I’m tired of learning new names. I’m tired of Black people becoming hashtags instead of living full lives. I’m tired of the trauma. I’m tired of realizing we aren’t even safe in our own homes.
I’m tired.
Say her name: #AtatianaJefferson
Mamie Till made sure the world knew what happened to her son. She sat in a court room and listened to him be dehumanized over and over then watched his killers be set free. She endured what no mother should. May she and Emmett rest in peace.
Update: they’ve been talking for hours and it’s like only a day has passed instead of 50 years. There is already talk of meeting in person even though they live on the opposite sides of the country
They talked for over 4 hours. We will be flying out to see her sometime this summer. She was blown away that I’m named after her. She’s heard of my books and movies and had no idea I’m her namesake 😊
After months of waiting (and trolling on my part), I can finally reveal my third novel, CONCRETE ROSE. Set 17 years before THE HATE U GIVE, it follows the story of young Maverick Carter

I love how last night’s #AbbottElementary looked into WHY a child was acting out and not just HOW the child was acting out. As funny as it was, it was a reminder that kids need adults to do that more often.
@quintabrunson is out here doing God’s work.
Dear @KyrieIrving, a few months ago I posted about a gym in Jackson, MS that needed a basketball court. You made a donation that allowed them to get one. A local artist put this piece in place so the kids can always see who did this for them.
Thank you.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I can never criticize a YA character for "releasing a breath they didn't know they were holding."
I just released one after 4 years.
Five years ago today, The Hate U Give was released.
I had no idea how much this book would impact people.
No idea how many crucial conversations it would start.
No idea how much it would change my life.
Thank you all for five beautiful years of love and support.
Angela had to run some errands, otherwise, they'd be talking now. Unfortunately, I have to keep this a secret for the next hour or two and IT IS KILLING ME
It is truly a privilege to be unaware of the concept known as code-switching and not have to use it to navigate society.
Y'all weird AF.
See? I just codeswitched.
Not long ago, I told y’all that we were putting a family in need in my old family home. It will be theirs to own, no renting. Renovations are now 95% complete.
Blessed to be a blessing.
Not a single publication needs to give Linda Fairstein a chance to speak. These men are broken because of her actions. She has done more than enough damage. #WhenTheySeeUsNow
I’m so excited to share the official poster for @TheHateUGive and even more excited for you to see @amandlastenberg shine as Starr on October 19th! The movie is nothing short of incredible.
I'm saddened to hear that a school district in Texas banned #TheHateUGive, but I'm also empowered - you're basically telling the kids of the Garden Heights of the world that their stories shouldn't be told. Well, I'm going to tell them even louder. Thanks for igniting the fire.
My grandmother passed in 2010. For a big chunk of my childhood, my mom was her caregiver due to her having Alzheimer’s. It was hard in so many ways, and when she passed we could barely afford to bury her. A headstone was out of the question.
I finally got my grandma a headstone
I think I've reached the point where I can no longer talk about the topics addressed in The Hate U Give. Mentally, emotionally...it's too much. And it's constant.
I have a few more speaking engagements, but that's gonna be it for a long time.
Growing up, my family didn’t have a car. My mom would catch rides often. She would walk to my school events. She would walk to the grocery store, even in bad weather.
Yesterday, I bought her a car.
Thank you, God, and thank y'all for making my biggest dream come true ❤️
Remember how I told my mom she could order whatever she wanted from QVC and HSN on Mother’s Day?
Yeah.
She also likes Amazon now and knows my Prime login.
Four years ago today, I wrote this Tweet. That novel I was so afraid to query was The Hate U Give. @byobrooks responded, I sent it to him, he signed me as a client, and the rest is history. Never imagined that book would change my life. Happy Tweetiversary, @byobrooks 👊🏽
Me after seeing @TheHateUGive for the first time. To @George_Tillman, @amandlastenberg, and the entire cast and crew, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Phenomenal is an understatement.
Hey @Oreo, @ChexMix, @vitaminwater, instead of practically destroying books for social media likes, maybe donate some books to some classrooms in need instead? @DonorsChoose has PLENTY of classes who need books. Just saying.
We’re renovating my childhood home for a young single mother. I’m already amazed at the progress.
She will OWN it. No renting. Home ownership is one key for strengthening our communities.
I can’t wait to see the final results.
Instead, the point of 'concern' from *one* executive was that "Black people don't read" and that YA readership is mostly white girls, and they won't read a book about a Black girl. [6/10]
