Incredibly sad to see reports of the passing of Ace Frehley, a founding member of what I believe is the most important American rock and roll band of all time. While I did not know him personally, he and the band have been a part of my life since my earliest memories. The impact KISS has had on me is immeasurable. None of what I do exists without them and generations of guitar players would have never picked up the instrument if it were not for his signature style and swagger. Ace is one of a kind and a rock icon in every conceivable sense of the term. RIP to the space Ace.

We have and will continue to tour with alot of different artists. I’ll say this though even though it likely won’t land because I imagine you have a presupposition here but thus far we have been treated with a level of kindness and enthusiasm on this tour that we aren’t accustomed to, in fact for 3 legs of Trinity we were fairly universally loathed by the other bands fans either passively or in many cases overtly whereas last night the people in attendance who maybe didn’t know much about BVB gave us a chance and seemed to want to really have fun at a show rather than lean on the scene oriented “BVB sucks” take. @RonnieRadke went out of his way to show kindness to us which is again something that is uncommon for us to experience on non headlining runs historically. You needn’t come to a show if it’s not for you and that’s entirely at your discretion but to attempt to grand stand on moral grounds to me who is a member of a band once called “the most hated band in the universe” as if anything I believe changes by virtue of us being afforded the opportunity to play our music for more people who seem to actually enjoy it and hopefully share our message and entertain them is an extremely myopic and in my opinion unfair position to take.

I’m extremely proud of the lyrics to Blackbird. However, for some reason during that last tour a mind gremlin wouldn’t allow me to remember the second verse for like 6 consecutive shows. Truly a shame but boy did I make some cool almost words and sounds in there during that stretch.

Luke, we as a band talked about it & encourage you to cease this endless pain you endure by having to review our music every time we put something out. You needn’t write that every new record or song is bad & that no one cares about us anymore as it’s been made evident by the overwhelming response your reviews get that we are taking up your valuable time with our bullshit. We are sorry Luke.

Thanks for the review! Wanted to note that the SBS cover is meant as a bonus song rather than part of the EP itself. It won’t be on streaming platforms. It was originally recorded during ‘the mourning’ sessions but we felt it was strong enough to see the light of day in some capacity. It’s really important also to share that I am not ignorant to the subject matter of the original nor what its meaning is intended to convey. However I would push back a bit on the idea that any song that is so firmly in the public zeitgeist cannot be interpreted to represent the meaning taken by the listener. I’m an American who was born a decade after its release and for me as a kid I loved the song and how it made me feel strength and introspection, only later in life did I learn of its true lyrical message. I believe it can both be true that meaning and message are of vital importance AND that you can be reverential to the spirit of song without it being inappropriate or callus when not directly referencing its initial context. There is nothing meant with a wink or being flippant here. I sincerely love this song and deeply respect its historical meaning and also wanted us to try our hand at a version that we felt held up to our own original material. It’s a tribute from our band to a song we love.

Im always confused about what is considered something that the internet is ok with making fun of someone about and what is out of bounds or considered “problematic”. Filled pauses are pretty common for neurodivergent people as it’s a tool to organize thoughts that can sometimes be harder to do. But yes, I don’t care in fact I’d actually love a 2 hour super cut of me saying exclusively um and uh. Actually fuck that make it a 12 hour cut I want to wake up and hit play and live my entire day listening to myself say um while im also saying um in my mind to myself. Umception.

I get what you mean but I’ll just say that it can be hard when you have 6 albums and couple of EPs worth of material and even harder when the set list times are pre determined in a lot of cases to fit everything in. We tried on the US leg of Bleeders to mix it up more and intend on doing that a lot more in the future. In particular the Wembley show.

I appreciate that. I think for me personally it’s defined as the experience of growing up. I was literally 17 sitting in my friends parents basement eating pizza rolls after school when I wrote the lyrics for songs like Knives and Pens. My life experience was small in scale and really just about feeling so isolated socially and the early records reflect that. STWOF was in a lot of ways about being a 19 year old pretending to be a grown up and it wasn’t until Wretched and Divine that I felt like i figured out what my voice as a writer was going to be and in what ways I excelled and what brought me creative fulfillment. Every subsequent release to me is emblematic of a chapter in all of our lives and whether someone enjoys newer material more than older material is really about the ways in which someone relates to or resonates with what they are hearing.

It was definitely a weird time in a lot of ways. Both within the band and with our relationship with our label at the time. I think in truth the time it took to actually make the record combined with the difficulty we experienced while touring it made the entire cycle feel more like a contractual obligation rather than an artistic expression which is unfortunate because the record itself isn’t representative of that. Times were changing musically as well and all of us had different interests. I don’t think it holds up as one of the most cohesive and refined bodies of work we have released but I do believe there’s a lot of really sincere and cool shit on there.

I appreciate the sentiment Pat but if you’re a fan of them don’t let this mess with that. I was 19/20 years old when all of these bands were punching down at me and the band. I’m not upset about it I just didn’t want to attribute something to someone incorrectly and let that sit out there without me correcting it. People change, I don’t know that dude maybe he would regret being an asshole to a kid like that now.

I have no interest in mounting a defense for myself to pass a social purity test. I know who I am and what I believe and none of that has changed but to pretend any of the authors of these QTs are interested in anything other than the opportunity to dunk on me because they perceive themselves to be morally infallible and virtuous and can show that off to other people who feel the same is just silly. Besides which, the original post wasn’t even in reference to the endless preaching and shaming being referenced.
