Picture in a picture? Let's take a look at using an image prompt with Midjourney's new inpainting feature! First, I need a starting image. For this example, I have chosen a woman wearing a plain white t-shirt. Next, I need my reference image's URL. (See MJ's guide to image prompts for help with this.) From my starting image, I use "🖌️Vary (Region)" and select a portion of the t-shirt. Then (with Remix Mode on) I add the URL first, and then a word prompt. In this case, I used the original prompt that produced the image of the flower illustration. (If you are using a non-MJ image, you will need to write a new word prompt.) Ta-da! Now her shirt has a pretty graphic on it. Have you used image prompts with inpainting yet? How were your results? {Prompts in ALT}

Magic eraser! Removing unwanted elements with 🖌️Vary (Region) Have you ever made an image in Midjourney, but wished you could erase something? You could try prompting again with the "--no" parameter. But what if you like the image exactly as it is, except for that one thing? Or possibly several things? Most likely, you'd need another program to alter the image. Now, though, we can continue to work with the image without leaving Midjourney! To remove an unwanted element, use 🖌️Vary (Region) with Remix Mode. Select the element you want to remove, then-- as long as what you're removing isn't in the prompt-- simply keep the prompt the same. For example, I started with "blueberry pancakes --s 25." Since the elements I want to get rid of (the flowers, the jug) aren't included in the prompt, they get removed. However, notice in the 3rd image that there are two blueberries at the bottom, on the table in front of the plate. How do I get rid of those? I simply take out the word blueberries, and just use "pancakes --s 25." Poof! Blueberries are gone. Have you tried removing elements from a Midjourney image? How did it go?

✍️ Prompt Share: “Pop-up Books” I recently ran a drawing by my daughter through /describe, and was delighted to find this little trick. It makes images that remind me of pop-up books, where the paper illustration pops out from between the pages to give a kind of 3D-ish effect. Now you can make all kinds of book-scapes! Prompt base: [subject], in the style of book sculptures {Prompts in ALT}

The Midjourney buzz of the day is that in-painting has arrived! Here is a basic example- an image that already has a nice rectangular area for altering. The prompt: interior of a reception area, contemporary modern, in the style of black and white patterns, with teal::2 accents, with gold accents, reception desk, rug over wooden floors, comfy sofas and chairs, succulents, fiddle leaf fig tree in planter, windows with black plantation shutters open slightly to let in a little light, abstract gold wall art, modern sconces, relaxing, mellow, meditative, 8k ultra detailed, ultra realistic, unreal engine --ar 16:9 --style raw From the upscaled image, I selected the new "🖌️Vary (Region)" button, which brought up a large window that allowed me to select an area to be edited with a new prompt (for this, be sure you have remix mode turned on). I deleted most of the prompt since all I wanted to alter was the artwork on the wall. I entered the new prompt and Midjourney provided 4 new images to choose from. Next up I will show how you can alter 2 areas of an image simultaneously! {Prompts in ALT}

Another great part of the new in-painting tool in Midjourney is the ability to change more than one portion of an image at the same time. 1st Example: I made a row of Granny Smith apples, but actually I really want an A/B pattern of apples and oranges. So, when I used "🖌️ Vary (Region)," I selected three apples to change. I altered the prompt to just "orange," and voila! Note that I selected the area below the apples as well, so that the reflections would match. 2nd Example: These chairs are fine, but maybe they would look better pink? Again, I selected areas around both chairs and changed the prompt. Pink, just like that! Have you tried changing multiple areas of an image at once? What were your results? {Prompts in ALT}

Thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted into the @runwayml Creative Partners Program! Several weeks ago I discovered Runway’s Physical Matter and ordered a copy of ‘A Dog’s Guide to the Future of AI.’ Living with one foot in the digital and one foot in the physical makes “real” objects all the more special for me. That’s why there’s a pile of Midjourney magazines on my coffee table, and why I have a growing wardrobe of Avalansa apparel. “A Dog’s Guide” outlines the idea of General World Models, and this is truly where I feel the future of AI lies. We need AI that can see, hear, and predict. We need AI that can cross from the physical into the digital.

I don't know who needs to hear this,* but if you share a prompt, you can't accuse other people of stealing your prompt. a repeating pattern of the same woman's face over and over again, tiling, color panels, bright palette --v 6.0 Not only does this prompt and image seem particularly apropos to the issue at hand, but it's also the initial base prompt for my recent work, Trapped Souls of AI Women. Here's the secondary prompt: a repeating pattern with a woman's face over it --style raw --v 6.0 These prompts work nicely in both Midjourney and Leonardo (obvs in Leo minus the MJ parameters). And now they're yours. You can just... copy and paste them, post your favorites here on X or elsewhere, and never tag me. I might think to myself, "Hey! That looks like it could be the result of that prompt I shared" but then I'd remember that I shared the prompt on a public platform and also that no one owes me anything for something I shared freely. If you don't want other people using your prompts, then stop sharing them. *I know exactly who needs to hear this

During Gen:48, I found that 3 things were crucial. 1: Communication with your team. My friend Sam @sraleksandrov (whom I met via Avalansa! hashtag best discord- come join us- see bio) and I created our own Discord server and added the Midjourney Bot so we could prompt together. This took a leap of faith and trust. It also enabled us to chat about specifics, give feedback, and work while the other was away or catching some Zs (hello, 7 hour time difference + family obligations). 2: Workflow. We prompted in Midjourney, then took our favorites to @Magnific_AI . I know it's been tagged a bunch already, but we can't thank @javilopen enough for the support! If you're wondering why we bother to upscale before going to Runway, where some quality will be lost even in Gen-2, it's because better data = better output. 3: Organization. We utilized Discord channels to track our story line and to work in parallel. For myself, I also needed a clear flow of images from Midjourney, to Magnific, to Runway, and out of Runway into editing, but not one by one- time was crucial- so folder and file maintenance was essential. This is probably obvious, but I wanted to share in case it's helpful for any others looking to collaborate- or maybe even for your own personal works! Gen:48 was so exhausting, but so worth it. I have absolutely loved watching other submissions shared here on X and elsewhere. The creativity is... delicious. Delectable. Rich. I've seen a bunch so far, but y'all- there were 1500 teams! If you have a submission, feel free to share it below, I would love to see it 💗

Contemplative, we drift with an anchor; we are floating, yet fixed. In solitude, we are free. We may do, think, and go where we choose. We may float abstractly through our mind's eye, or travel wherever our feet take us- even if it's to another room or the back gate. Yet in solitude we also remain fixed to our own body and our own mind. You are free, but you can't escape yourself. Contemplative, we drift with an anchor; we are floating, yet fixed.

I grew up reading Heinlein, and I've always tried to envision what his female characters might have worn. Heinlein was arguably a feminist, but in a very specific way that I understand not all feminists embrace. I also grew up on Star Trek: TNG, and I'm aware of the issues with female characters' bodies and uniforms. Maybe that's why I've been hesitant to share these- they are straight from my imagination, and they are intended to be very feminist-forward: you're only 'taking a picture' of her because she's allowing you to. Maybe she wants you to. Either way, consent is requisite. If you don't have consent, I have some friends with very large weapons that are prepared to deal with you. 🙂

So, something happened. Today (of all days) as I was wandering through those old, decaying parts of Luminara, I came across a racer. But not just any old beat-up omnivert. This racer... it's different. It’s like it whispered to the tech embedded in me, drawing me in. And when I touched it, it was like touching a part of myself I'd forgotten. We just... connected. You ever get that feeling when something from the past just jumps up and grabs you? That's how it felt. Like an old song or scent that brings back a rush of memories. But why this racer? And why now? Is it a sign? Is it trying to tell me something about who I was, or maybe who I'm meant to be? There's so much about myself and this world- Luminara below, Orbis above- that I don't understand. This racer, as bizarre as it sounds, feels like it could be something special. Something important. Tonight, standing in the shadow of Orbis, I can't help but wonder if the universe is pulling me towards a certain fate. Something inevitable… something necessary. Elara

✍️ Prompt Share: Lothlórien at Dusk When I was eleven, my father handed me his copy of The Fellowship of the Ring. I read it, but found most of it over my head. The next year, our class was assigned The Hobbit. Suddenly, everything started making sense, and I quickly read through the rest of the trilogy (which I later learned was never intended by Tolkien- he had wanted one whole book). When I saw the first teaser for the movies in the theater, I almost jumped out of my seat! I always loved the description of Lothlórien. They did a great job in the movie. But how amazing to be able to prompt my own images of it! And now you can, too: ultra wide angle shot of Lothlorien at dusk, beautiful landscape, golden mallorn mellyrn trees, fantasy, in the style of Lord of the Rings, dreamy, ultra detailed, ultra realistic, unreal engine, UHD image, 8k --niji 5 --style scenic --ar 16:9 Enjoy and have fun! Abracadabra: The dark art of making things disappear I was playing around with a step-by-step by the queen of AI product photography @Salmaaboukarr when I encountered something I didn't want in the image- a container where I just wanted blank space. So, I did Vary (Region) and because the area seemed pretty straightforward to me, I thought, I'll try that "empty" prompt trick. The only problem is, "empty" isn't always empty to MJ. I got a lot of things that weren't empty- a skull, smooth rocks, a mouse (of all things?) Getting an image without the bottle ended up being a matter of altering the original prompt adequately and a bit of luck. I've seen suggestions for prompting with words like "empty," "blank," "clear," etc, and sometimes these might work- but if they don't, try using the original prompt- or in this case here, try paring it down to some basic tokens. Then cross your fingers and hope that abracadabra works :) {Prompts in ALT} Have you found any tokens that help remove unwanted elements, or is it more a matter of altering the prompt and rerolling?

Tonight we were all snuggled up on the sofa in front of the fire. My son asked me if I would make a Minecraft image in Midjourney. He's 7 and Minecraft is life, second only to Jurassic Everything. We made a few and he selected his favorites. He said, "Can you upgrade those?" I said sure, and pulled the upscales. He looked at them and asked skeptically, "Those are the upgraded ones?" So I said, "Oh you want them UPGRADED?" Gave me the opportunity to try out the "Videogame Assets" option in Magnific. And sure, you won't see water or definition like this in Minecraft- at least, not yet? Might need to prompt for the Nether just to see.

"Away from their overbearing, obtrusive families, Emilia and Augustine found quiet solace with each other in the ruins of the forest." Sometimes it's not the prompt, it's the how. In the past few days, @iamneubert has shared a couple of examples of how to use a starting image to prompt for other images that can be used adjacent to the original, to great effect. This could be storyboarding, mood-boarding, scene-setting, or simply exploring. I LOVE it. It's genius. In simple terms: use your main image as a reference image, type a new prompt, and add --iw 0.5 (image weight half). {Prompts in ALT}
