My #Concorde50 image is a radar image from 22/10/03 showing two Concordes, BAW2 from JFK and BAW9021 from MAN, carrying out parallel approaches to 09R and 09L at Heathrow. This was the first and last time this was ever done, and looked incredible from the Tower.

Here’s me doing my little tea pot impression at the top of the tower. Big thanks to Ranger 4 and the Airside Safety Department @HeathrowAirport who managed to capture this amazing shot of last week’s final @British_Airways 747 low approach and go around.

For the past 20 years I’ve been talking to G-CIVB and -VY, @British_Airways final 747s. Countless pushbacks, take-off clearances, and of course slow tows with the inimitable Keith the BA tug driver (RIP). Tomorrow they are to be retired. I hope we can give them a good send off.

I recall being Tower Supervisor @HeathrowAirport when a @KoreanAir_KE Cargo 747 had to make an emergency opposite direction landing on Runway 09L due to multiple fire alarms onboard. Turns out the 200 Kobe beef cows on board had farted so much they’d set off all the fire alarms.
In 2015, a Singapore Airlines freight plane had to make an emergency landing because its cargo of farting sheep set off the smoke alarm.
