Please understand that coaches care by holding you to a certain standard so that when you move on in life, you can overcome anything it throws at you. There are many lessons in sports that show up later in LIFE. It’s our job to prepare you for those moments.

If you’re going to have the 6 coaches on your bench for a team of 10 players, at least make sure that all aren’t only coaching the X’s and O’s in the game. I’ve seen players have bad body language and bad bench energy, and not one of the 6 coaches said a thing.

I started off as a club coach, then moved on to be a volunteer HS coach/ PE teacher before becoming a graduate assistant.
There’s so much one can learn in those early years doing the grunt work that’s not always fun.
Don’t skip steps, take every step!
Erik Spoelstra started out in the film room breaking down tape for the Heat — working his way up to one of the leagues best coaches…a great thought for so many young coaches who want to bypass critical steps for growth.

As a GA, I learned not to just point out problems, but to come up with a solution as well. I had to learn that being “Captain Obvious” wasn’t enough.
It’s so easy to point out problems, it’s sometimes difficult to come up with a solution to combat the problem in practice/games.
