We also talk about the ambitious of G2 and how they are growing together. Another fantastic episode and well worth your time.

As an aspiring pro, do you think it’s important to play ranked? I’ve changed my mind many times over the years, but this is my current perspective. Playing ranked is essential. A couple of important points I do want to recognise: 1.ranked can be an awful environment, uncooperative players, toxicity etc. 2.But nothing beats playing the game when it comes to being good at it. No matter what skill you train - specificity matters. So how do we find the balance between comfortability and reaching our goals? I think my point is best illustrated by these questions: What does it say about someone if they are able to perform under those conditions and yet still build the consistency and show the tenacity to climb? What does it say about someone if they don’t play ranked? From my perspective it’s all about that balance between desire to be the best and what makes you feel comfortable. That harsh truth is that being a professional gamer is not easy, or comfortable. I believe it’s a common misconception that it’s going to be easy, probably because many of us started to make us feel more comfortable - escaping the real world. It is difficult to hear but… Going pro is a grind. Overcoming adversity and challenge is part of becoming the best you can be. There is no substitute for playing the game, simple as that. So if you really want to be the best, and not just be comfortable, then you better be out there every day making it happen. You have to want it so bad that you will put yourself through that experience, no matter how hard. Otherwise, you’ll just lose to someone who wants it more.

What’s next for me? Having played relegation twice consecutively, surviving once and losing this most recent time I have decided to take a bit of a step change in my approach. As many of the players have alluded to this team has had its own challenges internally which have made this loss all the more difficult. Plenty of series in the league which could’ve gone our way under different circumstances, some of which are things I know I could’ve done better, others not so much. It’s crazy to think how little the results in the league would’ve had to change, a very small number of rounds, for us to reach playoffs. I am proud of how close we were and it gives me some solace. I’m sure many of my teammates will find a lot of success, if they want to put their mind to it. Thank you for everything @bubu_VLR @c4nturk1 @Belyaks1 @W4ntedValorant @karma_valo @kixer_1 @frontside1g @shiioVAL @vlrjurca @RZN_Zealous @RIZONDOTGG This has been another learning experience and certainly gives me confidence in my ability and knowledge despite the outcomes. Like many I have a strong drive to compete, to prove myself, to help others, forge lasting bonds and to do myself proud. But too much of this comes at a cost emotionally, physically and financially - especially in esports. I am no longer a student, or supported financially and therefore I have a responsibility to support myself and do what’s best for my future family. I am not sure exactly what the future holds but I want to focus on bringing value and support to those who desire and deserve it. I want to surround myself with like-minded individuals who give everything to get what they dream of and am fortunate enough to already be supporting some of these amazing people. I want to expand on this and work with more people one on one, but with a reduced time commitment. Quality over quantity now. I also want to focus more on bringing content more broadly, with this freed up time, finally giving my valorant players handbook the attention that it needs and getting it to a point where I can start to share it with the community- something I am honestly so excited to do! Hopefully this will also provide a basis for more zero-cost content on YouTube and a foundation for many aspiring professional players and coaches. As always, my DMs are open and I would love to hear from you if you think I could support you in any way - as a team, coach or player. Much love, Alex ‘Aplox’

ZERO-COST PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY I am looking for 1-3 more people (players or coaches) to regularly work with on their performance. Ideally I am looking for people already playing in VCL/VCT that want to take their performance and career to the next level but I will consider extremely promising upcoming talents. You must be willing to be open to criticism and excited to take on feedback and improve. (This doesn’t mean I want yes men but you must have an open mind) The more you put into this the more value you will find. Initially we will have a short call to assess our natural synergy, and your potential, to decide if we think this is a relationship which would be beneficial. This type of mentorship can encompass all aspects of performance including mindset, mentality, life-skills, leadership and (potentially) in-game skills if we feel it is a useful addition. Ultimately this will be tailored directly to your needs. If we decide to move forwards the first month, one session per week, will be at zero cost to you. If it sounds like you could get some value from this, and you meet the set out requirements, please reach out to me in my DMs here, discord (@aplox.) or via email.

Marketing yourself as a player is one of the most underrated skills. No one will pick you up if they don’t know who you are. They can’t even give you a trial if they don’t know you exist! Especially if you’re a player that brings a lot of skills to the team, off the server, you can often be overlooked. Same goes for coaches and analysts too. People need to know what you’re capable of before they give you a shot. This is why social media, highlight reels, sharing information, sharing learnings, failures and how to avoid them, all of these things contribute to your image and what people know you can do. There are plenty of players that can shoot and put up numbers on a server but this isn’t the thing that makes potential championship players stand out. Don’t forget, esports is just a marketing vessel for other companies! Having a presence, and bringing in potential customers for brands, is arguably the most important thing a player can do, on top of winning trophies.
