pro tip: if you're writing api endpoints for a post/put, at the very least return the server-generated id, your app devs will love you if you want them to not only love you but propose on the spot, return the entire created/updated record, especially for patch endpoints

holy crap they fired yacine's mom too
After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏. When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.  I’m incredibly proud of the X team - the historic business turn around we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.  We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritize the safety of our users—especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence. This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform. Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with @xai . X is truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal. We couldn’t have achieved that without the support of our users, business partners, and the most innovative team in the world.  I’ll be cheering you all on as you continue to change the world.  As always, I’ll see you on 𝕏

after 7 weeks of interviewing like mad when i got hit with the Jan 2023 mass-layoffs i ended up with 4 offers 3 of those were unicorns, and the other one was a super small startup in a somewhat "boring" space the unicorns had much more to offer, presenting equity trajectories and salaries the start up couldn't even get close to matching, but the small startup was the only cashflow positive one of the bunch one unicorn in particular seemed to make the most sense, they were really getting traction and had just secured a Series D, providing runway for the next year and a half "by their most conservative of estimates" the thing was they were already huge with a lot of process, and between all the different interviews, it didn't seem like there was much cohesion or passion around vision a couple hard days bouncing back and forth and i decided. i was going to accept the unicorn. i mean it would be stupid not to. the comp was so much better but something in my gut wasn't sitting right, so i called the CEO at the startup we went deep on vision, the problems they were solving, why the opportunity was there, how they were competitively positioned to capture it and more. i threw every curveball i had. two hours he spent on the phone with me on a sunday afternoon, stress-testing their vision and mission and he was right. he knew this stuff inside and out and the passion for what they were doing was clearly there so i went with my gut and joined the startup fast forward a year and a half and im sitting here watching our revenues compound while those three unicorns repeatedly cut from the departments i likely would have been joining there's a few takeaways for me: - stewardship and vision are #1 - size is irrelevant, i'll take a company of 6 good devs 8 days a week - your gut exists for a reason, listen to it - never doubt positive unadjusted ebitda

diary of a front end dev: ask anybody who knows me professionally and as of a year and a half ago I was one of react's strongest supporters it's over, they've lost the plot will it still be around in 5 years? absolutely will it still get you get a job? probably will you want to keep it? who knows the state of front end right now is so mid bell curve it actually bums me out is SaaS the future? I don't think so if you're just getting started in comp sci there's such cooler things to learn right now imo, like embedded systems + ai, robotics will be a super promising field I think, worth checking out
