Assemblymember for California State Assembly District 44 (Burbank, Los Angeles, and North Glendale). Chair of Public Safety Committee. Campaign Account.
This will be my last post on X.
This account will not be utilized or monitored for responses moving forward.
X no longer supports the kind of meaningful, respectful dialogue my constituents deserve.
Hate speech and disinformation shouldn’t be the loudest voices in the room.
Over the last few days, I have received a number of calls & emails about the city’s response to the situation unfolding at Tinhorn Flats. I firmly believe that this establishment’s behavior is reckless & stands in stark contrast to the health, safety & well-being of #Burbank.
Tonight I am issuing the following statement regarding the events at Tin Horn Flats and the hateful, violent crime last night that landed a 19-year-old young man in the hospital. There is still more work to do. We can and must be better than this #Burbank.
What an eventful day! I started by taking the oath of office as your next Assemblymember for AD 44.
Next, I voted to re-elect @CASpeakerRivas & to adopt our 2025/2026 rules package.
Lastly, I introduced my first two pieces of legislation: AB 43 & AB 44.
Ready to get to work!
Russia has embarked on an unprovoked attack against #Ukraine. This is yet another armed attempt to overthrow democracy.
At the request of many residents, I’ve asked the City Manager’s Office if we can light #Burbank City Hall in blue & yellow. We stand #UnitedWithUkraine!
Earlier this week, I worked with #Burbank city staff to update our employment applications to include a non-binary gender option.
Building a more #diverse, #inclusive, and #equitable community starts with making everyone feel valued and welcomed!
Burbank doesn’t have a great record of adding affordable housing to our community.
But last night, the City Council voted 4-1 to approve a 100% affordable housing project (148 total units) that will be constructed with a workforce paid the prevailing wage. Proud to support it!
In a few hours, I’ll be sworn in as the new Assemblymember for AD 44. But before that happens I want to thank my friend, mentor, and predecessor: @AsmFriedmanCA.
Laura has an extraordinary record of progressive state leadership.

Yesterday, I joined members of @TAGwriters Local 839 and @LALabor in a #Rally4Animation at IATSE Local 80 in #Burbank. As a city, we remain committed to affordable housing, workplaces protections, and fair and livable wages with benefits for our employees!
Earlier today, I had the opportunity to tour the @BurbankYMCA_CA and get a “sneak peak” at the new Social Impact Center. This will be the first LGBTQIA+ Resource Center in #Burbank. Thank you to Bryan and Rob for the tour today!
Hateful displays of intolerance and bigotry against our LGBTQIA+ community have no home in #AD44.
Thank you to the @GlendaleUSD School Board for your leadership last night in the face of adversity!
At 12:33 PM, Allie and I welcomed our son, Aiden, into the world! Happy to share that both momma and baby are doing well. Ella is excited to meet her baby brother in a few days.
Thank you all for the happy thoughts and well wishes!
Join @BurbankDems for a “Bans Off Our Bodies” rally at #Burbank City Hall tonight at 5:15 PM!
As a husband & father, I am outraged to see this partisan attack on fundamental liberties. We cannot allow our daughters to grow up in a country with fewer constitutional protections.
Today was a historic day for @BurbankCA as we welcomed our three new colleagues: @VoteNikkiPerez, @TamalaTakahashi, and @ZizetteMullins.
I am honored to serve as the Vice Mayor for #Burbank.
Congratulations to Mayor @KonstantineinCA! I look forward to working with all of you.
The family and I decided to celebrate the end of a long work week by ordering dinner from one of our go-to places: Frontier Wok Too.
They’ve been voted the “best Chinese cuisine” in #Burbank by the readers of @myBurbankNEWS. Taste it for yourself this weekend!

The results are looking good! 🎉
A big thank you to the voters of #AD44 for placing their trust in me, and to everyone who contributed their time, money, and energy to make this possible!
Update - This morning, Judge Beckloff denied a request made by Tinhorn Flats to dissolve the preliminary injunction.
The Court also denied a request for sanctions against the City of #Burbank. The preliminary injunction remains in place pending resolution of the civil lawsuit.
We’re advancing to the general election! 🎉 A big thank you to everyone who lent their time, money and energy to our grassroots campaign. I look forward to working with you all as we head into the November election.
With Assemblymember Laura Friedman running for Congress, I’m entering the race to succeed her and to build on the work she has done to make California and our district a better place for all of us.
As the third night of #Hannukah begins, Mayor @KonstantineinCA and I (and the entire #Burbank City Council) wish you and your loved ones a safe, warm, and wonderful holiday!
Today, I had the opportunity to tour the #Burbank Animal Shelter as a new volunteer for the @thevbas. This is a great organization that does important work for our community! Please consider volunteering a few hours each month to help animals in need of our care.
PSA - @LibraryBurbank will restore full hours of service starting the week of May 16th. This means that our Central and Buena Vista branch libraries will be open until 9:00 pm (Monday to Thursday). We will also return to having two locations open on Saturdays in #Burbank.
I had a great time today meeting with the staff at MexCocina Cafe in #Burbank. We talked about the restaurant’s re-opening and recovery strategies. Please continue to support our local businesses by eating and shopping #local. Together we will build back stronger!

It’s been a rough few weeks, so it was welcome news to hear that @AlexFischCC is officially running for re-election to the Culver City Council.
He’s been a zealous advocate for climate resiliency, housing, alternative modes of transportation, and more. I’m proud to endorse Alex!
The Trump Administration is mobilizing and deploying the National Guard to Los Angeles.
There is no insurrection. Residents of our state are coming together to call out injustices and violations of due process by ICE agents.
What we’re witnessing are the actions of a tyrant.
I agree. Previous City Councils presumably saw no issues with many gun stores and that’s why existing zoning allows for it. But we’re not accepting the status quo. The City Council has directed staff to bring back options later this Summer for our consideration. Enough is enough.
Earlier today, I joined local activists, city staff & elected officials as part of the community garden kick off meeting at the corner of Hollywood Way & Clark Avenue in #Burbank.
While there are still some obstacles ahead, I look forward to the opening of this community asset!
I am so proud to have earned the support of the vast majority of delegates in the 44th assembly district. Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. So excited to go win this race in March 2024!
This is a crucial step towards more transparent and accountable policing in Los Angeles, which will hopefully foster more trust between the public and law enforcement. #transparency#justicelatimes.com/local/lanow/la-m…
In response to the numerous questions and inquiries that the City of #Burbank receives each day, we have launched a new webpage with updated information about Tin Horn Flats: burbankca.gov/what-s-new/tin….
Please visit this page regularly to keep informed of the latest developments.
Congratulations to the newly elected BUSD school board president, @StevenLFerguson, and vice president, @DrEmilyWeisberg!
I look forward to working closely with both of you, as well as your colleagues, in the year ahead for the benefit of our students, teachers, and families.
Tonight, on the anniversary of the tragic crash that took the lives of Cerain Baker, Jaiden Johnson and Natalie Moghaddam, the #Burbank community joins the family & friends who are gathering to remember their lives. We owe it to them and future generations to create safe streets.
Earlier this week, the State of Texas took an egregious step to eliminate a woman’s right to choose.
This near-total ban on abortions is draconian, especially given that there are no exceptions for rape or incest.
Join this event on Saturday & stand up for reproductive freedom!
What’s happening at the U.S. Capitol today is profoundly disappointing & disturbing. Our democracy is founded on the concepts of due process & the peaceful transition of power. Every single elected official can and should disavow this unpatriotic behavior. cnn.com/2021/01/06/politics/…
Get ready for the return of “Magnolia Park Night Out” hosted by @MagParkBurbank at the end of this month. Please come out and support our local #Burbank businesses!
I had a great time at the @LALCV Just Desserts event this afternoon catching up with some of my regional colleagues.
It was especially meaningful to see my friend, @AlexFischCC, on his last full-day in office. Thank you, Alex, for your contributions to Culver City & the region!
Thank you for sharing this video. This is very unfortunate to see happening in our community. I will be sharing and discussing this incident with Burbank PD. I’ll also contact the business to confirm that everyone working there is doing alright.
I stand with frontline healthcare workers who are sounding the alarm right now. I urge Kaiser Permanente executives to stop their unfair labor practices and bargain in good faith! @AboutKP#United4All#ISupportKaiserWorkers#SolidaritySeason
I know that there are safety concerns about tomorrow’s “Family Pride in the Park” event.
Please know that @BurbankCA takes these concerns very seriously. @BurbankPD has been responsive and will be ready to handle any situation.
I will personally be there to show my support.
I want to thank Dakota Hughes, as well as several other community members, who contacted me earlier today with a thoughtful list of suggestions to address this establishment and other businesses that do not comply with public health orders.
The @BurbankLeader has finally called the race. Congratulations to @VoteNikkiPerez and @TamalaTakahashi on your election to the Burbank City Council!
I look forward to working closely with both of you over the next 2 years to address the most pressing issues in #Burbank. 👏👏👏
Cindy Montañez was a trailblazing, progressive leader. In the Assembly, she led on education, environment, health care, and consumer/worker protection. In recent years, she faithfully served the constituents of San Fernando. She’s a role model for many and will be deeply missed.
Our website and social media accounts are officially live. Be sure to follow at @AsmNickSchultz to receive the latest updates from our state capital and around the 44th of assembly district!
On Monday, I was sworn in as your next Assemblymember for the 44th district. I’m humbled and grateful to have this opportunity to serve you.
I take the responsibility of serving #AD44 seriously. I fully commit to doing the hard work necessary to address our most pressing issues.
I have asked city staff to look into these options. In the meantime, please know that I remain committed to ensuring the health & safety of every Burbanker.
Allie, Ella & I enjoyed dinner from one of our favorite #Burbank restaurants tonight: @NorthEndPizza. The food & service was perfect as usual!
Let’s continue to support our local restaurants as part of #ChowDownBurbank, a campaign in partnership w/ @BurbankCA & @BurbankChamber!
I was proud to stand with our @SEIU121RN nurses today outside of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in #Burbank.
They’re fighting for a new contract & safe working conditions.
They have consistently stood up for our community amidst challenging times. I stand with them.
Tomorrow morning, the California State Assembly is poised to approve a $2.5 billion relief package for the areas and residents impacted by the #LosAngelesFires.
These funds will facilitate the removal of hazardous waste and provide shelter for survivors.
Help is on the way!
Earlier this week, the #Burbank City Council approved 862 units of housing, including 80 deed-restricted very low income #AffordableHousing units.
It’s the largest addition of new housing units in nearly 20 years & constitutes nearly 10% of our city’s 6th cycle RHNA allocation.
I agree. If Congress can’t act (or won’t act) to address this growing National problem, then it’s the responsibility of state & local governments to do more.
Our City Council won’t tolerate the status quo any longer. We’ve directed staff to bring back options. Enough is enough.
Join @BurbankPride & @MagParkBurbank for the first ever #Burbank “Family Pride in the Park” this Friday, September 30th. It will be at the @UMeCreditUnion from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
There will be food trucks, vendors & more. Learn more at burbankpride.org. See you there!
#Burbank Municipal Code currently prohibits “impersonating…a person of the opposite sex,” and only allows dancing “between persons of the opposite sex.”
Next week, the City Council will take the long-overdue step of repealing these discriminatory local laws.

Please support this local #Burbank establishment, and many others like them, who are acting responsibly to keep their staff and patrons safe. They need our business now more than ever!
Trick-or-treating with Allie and the kids is an absolute blast!
Just a quick reminder to keep safety in mind: stay visible, stick together, and don't forget to check those treats.
Wishing you all a night of spooktacular fun and, most importantly, safety this Halloween! 🎃👻
Thank you Assemblymember @LauraFriedmanCA on your incredible service to the people of California and the 44th Assembly District!
We are all better because of your contributions. You leave huge shoes to fill. But I’m excited to see you start the next chapter of your career!
It’s a bittersweet day. After 8 years, today is my last session day as a California Legislator. Representing my community in Sacramento has been one of the highest honors of my life, and I’m deeply grateful to the public for their support and faith in me. Thank you all!
Last night, I joined Vice Mayor @KonstantineinCA & #Burbank community volunteers at the 2022 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count.
Thank you @LAHomeless & @BurbankCA for organizing it. Collecting accurate data about our unhoused population will lead to better data-driven policies.
I’m extremely grateful for the strong showing of support at today’s @CA_Dem Pre-Endorsement Conference for Region 14.
Thank you to all of the delegates for your service. Looking forward to continuing our conversations. We’re on to the CDP Convention!
I am thrilled to announce the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats (LACYD). The support from such a passionate and engaged group of young leaders is incredibly meaningful.
“Today, LA County Sheriff turned over possession of the Tinhorn Flats’ building and property to the property owner, Isabelle Lepejian, as the last step in the eviction process she initiated against Tinhorn Flats.”
BREAKING: per the city of Burbank, Tinhorn Flats has been evicted from the property. The ex-wife of the owner, Isabelle Lepejian, recently filed an eviction notice against owner Baret Lepejian.

Today’s verdict brings a measure of relief to George Floyd's family. Our criminal justice system reached a just result. But true justice requires that we continue to dismantle systemic racism & inequality that persists in our society. Let’s do it together!

We must work to create a more #equitable & #sustainable local economy in #Burbank. We can't merely restore what we've lost due to this pandemic. We need to give everyone the chance to earn a #livingwage with benefits that include #healthinsurance coverage.
Happy Anniversary to my wife and best friend, @AllieApana. The last 5 years have been incredible! You are my rock and I love you. I’m so excited for what the future has in store for our family. 🌹🍾🎊🎉

It’s crucial that we bring new voices to City Hall to help lead #Burbank on issues of #diversity, #equity & #inclusion. I applaud the prior council for adopting the #SundownTownResolution. But we can’t stop there! I’ll prioritize the diversification of our boards & commissions.

Last night, I came home from work & put my daughter to bed. But there are parents who can’t do that because they lost their kids to gun violence.
People are angry & distrustful of promised government action.
All of us in government must do more to deliver on these promises.

Despite today’s SCOTUS decision overturning #RoeVsWade, abortion remains legal in California.
California respects reproductive rights. This November, voters will have a chance to pass #SCA10, constitutional amendment to enshrine this fundamental right in our CA constitution.
I was honored to join @SenatorMenjivar for her community swearing in today.
Senator Menjivar will be a tremendous advocate for #Burbank and every other San Fernando Valley community that she represents. Congratulations Senator!
