1/ On Monday evening, my wallet was drained of 96 prized pieces of digital art by @dennisarpa. I fell victim to a scam, and I take full responsibility for my role. The pain I feel today could be compared to having a house burn down. My wife and kids are safe, and that is what matters most, but much of what we built together has been destroyed. I hope that this thread can help someone else avoid the same fate.

phase 2 of the mfer museum is now complete! phase 1 was spent curating a cohesive collection of mfers and derivatives that looked good together. phase 2 was all about transitioning a personal gallery into a public museum, which was my intention from day 1. the last few days have been spent right click saving some of the most iconic tweets, drawings, memes, flyers, and photos from our first 18 months together. these are the things that turn a gallery into a museum, or house into a mfer home. my hope is that the next time you are talking to a normie friend about web3, or just spinning some tunes with friends, you will do at the mfer museum. that is what this place was built for. but then again, mfers do what they want. thank you to everyone that contributed to this effort, much love mfers.

14/ I have established a new ETH wallet, secured by a new Ledger, and I will slowly attempt to rebuild. If anyone really wants to help, small amounts of mfercoin, eth, or eth based meme coins would go a long way in terms of providing hope. And if anyone happens to see one of my former mfers or Nakamigos wondering the streets and wants to send them home, I would be eternally grateful, but that is not my expectation.

11/ Those who have interacted with me know that I was here for the art. My collections were carefully curated over a period of years. Each asset that I purchased was a piece of a much larger puzzle. Assets that I sold were not for profit purposes. I transacted when I found a new puzzle piece that was a better fit for what I was ultimately building. For the mfer community, this puzzle came together on 6/9/23 with the debut of the mfer museum in oncyber. Unfortunately, most of these assets were stolen from me, but the museum will live on indefinitely. Please pay a visit if you haven’t already, this is my happy place.

10/ I kept my family’s digital assets safe on a Ledger for 2.5 years yet lost 75% of what we accumulated in less than an hour. I should have done more due diligence on @dennisarpa before engaging. I should have transferred the asset under consideration into my hot wallet. I should not have signed into the link that he provided. I should have prepared for a breach ahead of time. And I should have kept enough ETH liquid in my account to transact in an emergency. Please learn from my mistakes.

13/ Those who know me well, know that I don’t ever ask for help. I enjoy the act of giving, yet I am very uncomfortable receiving. However, people from the mfers, Nakamigos, and art communities are asking me what they can do. Some incredible people have even gone out and purchased a few of the stolen assets and asked me for a return address. To each of you, please know that I love you. Unfortunately, I have just taken a mid-six figure financial loss and I do not envision a scenario where I can repay you anytime soon. And I will always be a mfer, a Nakamigo, and a lover of digital art even if I no longer own the assets.

9/ Next, I quickly got drained of my 42 mfers. My stomach dropped through the floor as I realized what was happening and my mind started racing. I had no idea how to stop the drain and I had almost no available ETH in any of my wallets to transfer out assets. I reached out to a chat full of mfers and they did what they do best. They quickly provided advice on revoking privileges and sent me enough ETH so that I could transact. Unfortunately, I wasn’t fast enough, and I lost my 45 Nakamigos and 9 Views by DeltaSauce before I could lock things down and transfer out the remaining assets.

3/ So when @dennisarpa reached out to me on Monday, I expected it to be the usual drill. In my mind, my Nakamigos collection was finally complete, and my mfers collection was complete with the exception of one asset that I could potentially be interested in upgrading. No one knew which mfer this was, I never mentioned it to anyone, and it wasn’t listed for sale. Coincidentally, that was the exact asset that @dennisarpa inquired about. And that is the only reason I engaged in the conversation.

8/ This when I made two major mistakes that I will have to live with forever. First, I should have moved the asset from my vault to my hot wallet before even thinking about the offer. Second, I should have gone to the x2y2 website to sign in with my Ledger. But for some reason I clicked on his link since I had already investigated it on my laptop and it appeared to be legit. Maybe I was more tired that I thought, I don’t know.

7/ No, I did not immediately click the link. The first thing I did was go to my laptop, search for x2y2 in Google, and find the authentic website. I reviewed the site and took note of the URL. Then I looked at the URL of the link he sent and it matched up. Then I opened the link and looked at the two web pages side by side. Everything looked legit. That is when I finally decided to sit down in front of my primary computer, sign into x2y2 with my Ledger, and evaluate the offer.

5/ After some back and forth, @dennisarpa presented a fair offer. I declined because I wasn’t sure that I could purchase the new asset I wanted for that price. He came back with a higher offer, and I was now confident that I could get the asset that I had my eye on. So I asked him to place a bid on the mfer and I would make a decision within an hour. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do the deal, but I was leaning in that direction.
