Last night, our amazing chiefs graduated from @UTSW_Surgery via @zoom_us. It’s hard to imagine what is normally a 200 person celebration condensed down to a virtual, more isolating experience. Thankfully, @JohnCMcGinley brought us joy, humor, and some #scrubs wisdom.

There MUST be institution wide change and support for wellness policies. We are so lucky to have free healthy food provided to residents, scheduled mornings off for drs appts, a running and a book club, and either Thanksgiving, Xmas or NYE off for every resident #wellnessworks

We have a “doctors day” policy: the residents can skip rounds to go to the doctor/dentist/mental health - honor system, needs buy-in from everyone, and yes it works! Initial data presented at ACS showing impact on time since seeing MD/dentist. @audra_clark87 @UTSWSurgeryLife

Surgical training is hard. It’s ownership, not shift work, but it doesn’t have to be miserable. 80hr wks at a busy county hospital are no joke. But it’s worth it. Training is excellent and the people and moments we’ve shown are what get you through. #ParklandTrained #UTSWisBest
