Yesterday, I joined distinguished leaders, development partners, members of the academic community and other stakeholders at the official launch of the Manufacturing Technology (Manu-Tech) University Innovation Pod (UniPod) at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).
We were honoured to welcome the Vice President, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, (represented by Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa), the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Architect Sonny Echono, Her Excellency Mrs Ahunna Eziakonwa (UN Assistant Secretary-General & UNDP Africa Director), the UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ms Elsie Attafuah, and the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. (Mrs) Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, alongside our esteemed partners and guests.
The Manu-Tech UniPod, under the National Innovation and Digital Transformation Partnership Programme (NIDTPP), a collaborative initiative of the Federal Government, TETFund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will empower universities to transform research and talent into enterprises that thrive globally. Abia is proud to be part of this journey, with MOUAU chosen for its immense potential and Aba’s manufacturing strength.
The UniPod will drive innovation, entrepreneurship, MSME growth, investment and sustainable jobs. As we deepen partnerships with UNDP and others, we look forward to expanding initiatives like the Jubilee Fellows Programme, Aba Export Growth Lab, energy investments, industrial competitiveness and community innovation centres and other strategic interventions that will broaden opportunities for our people.
I commend the Federal Government, TETFund, UNDP, MOUAU and all partners whose collaboration made this possible. With the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) opening access to a market of over 1.4 billion people across Africa, our task is clear: innovate, produce and compete globally.
