WA Dems call it a “wealth tax,” but it’s really an unrealized capital gains tax—a backdoor income tax. It forces people to pay taxes on investments before they sell. If the market crashes, the state keeps the money. This reckless tax kills jobs and drives businesses out of WA.

WA drivers pay ~50 cents more per gallon thanks to Democrats climate scheme. Now millions of dollars are funding radical environmental activists through the HEAL Act. Instead of fixing roads, or cutting spending or taxes, Democrats are bankrolling their activist allies with your money. This isn’t climate policy, it’s a scam. As I go through CCA line items, it’s maddening to see the absolute con that is being performed on taxpayers. CCA is like the USAID of WA.

Tariffs aren’t affecting my small business, we manufacture custom cabinetry right here in Washington. What’s hurting us is Democrat tax increases. Everything we create is made and sourced in the Pacific Northwest with American labor. If anything I’m more competitive because I don’t use cheap Chinese goods. It’s those blue state taxes and regulations that are crushing. Here’s another thing I know, and it’s pretty simple to understand—if my customers pay higher prices in their daily lives, if they have less disposable income, or if we don’t build enough homes because of crazy regulations and taxes—then I don’t build as many cabinets. That means less taxes I will pay because I make less sales, less trade jobs for me to offer because it’s harder to grow, less opportunity for me to pay my employees more, and of course my own family suffers. Gov. Ferguson says he “spoke to many business owners” about affordability. Yet time and again, he and his party fail to understand even the most basic economic principles—then they do exactly the things to make it worse. I even heard a Democrat state “we budget on hope” during a tax debate. I even watched as they established grant programs to assist small business to survive their policies. Logic would tell normal people that if you must do that then that’s a major red flag, and an admission of failure. We don’t want to apply for a grant to save us from you, we just don’t want you to harm us in the first place. I’ve come to believe that there are too many in the legislature without much real world experience, instead substituting experience for activism to pass policy. So no, try as Democrats might to gaslight every citizen of Washington that it’s Trump over 3,000 miles away that is causing economic hardship, the rest of us know the truth. The largest tax increases in state history, passed by Democrats, will harm people and commerce far more than anything else. It’s over $9B stolen and ripped from our economy to quench the never ending thirst of more Democrat spending. And you know the winners of that spending: politicians, bureaucrats, and criminals. It’s disturbing to me that a group of radical Democrats find their constituents to be so ignorant and apathetic that they feel emboldened to blatantly lie and deflect right to their faces. Literally blaming others for things they have actually done just days prior. I hope people see right through it.

WA Dems proposal to automatically raise property taxes based upon inflation+population (without any cap or voter approval) will be the most devastating tax increase in WA State history. It’ll force seniors and lower income people out of their homes and onto the streets. Early estimates show your property taxes could easily double or more in 10 years with this plan. It’ll devastate housing supply, especially when coupled with rent control. Only the elite could afford it, and there would be so little rental housing it’ll dramatically increase homelessness at a time when WA has some of the highest rates of homelessness in the country. At some point it would likely cease to pull in the revenue they need as the people able to pay it dwindle. This will absolutely demolish the people of my district, our economy, our businesses, and the people who need us the most. And for what? So Dems can continue to recklessly spend and send money to their well-connected friends to get paid lavish salaries while not solving a single major issue? Billions fly out the door to their friends, special interests, and for ideological activism. This is bonkers, but more it’s callous and despicable. Just proposing this tax should disqualify anyone who supports it from public office. This “idea” should be beneath anyone who claims to serve the people.

In his first session, Gov. Ferguson becomes the most radical Governor in state history: - largest tax increase in state history - property tax, up - business tax, up - host of other taxes/fees, up - 8% reckless spending growth - fake $100m for police w/ tax - rent control catastrophe - paying unions to go on strike - assassinates parents bill of rights - “poll tax” permit to purchase a firearm - hundreds of millions more for illegals - rob single moms of child support - rob aged, blind, and disabled - no progress on drugs or homelessness - broken promise for emergency powers - nothing to protect Jewish students - reparations study, funded - discriminatory housing program, signed - clemency & pardons for illegals - public safety in shambles - highest cost of gas, groceries, rent in U.S. - lowest per capita police in U.S. He signed on to everything the radical wing of his party wanted, some of which could not pass into law for multiple years under Jay Inslee, and our state is much worse because of it. He even violated his own supposed budget principles in the process. He said he wanted to be a Governor for everybody, instead he’s a Governor for radicals. He said he wanted to make government efficient, he instead grew waste and bureaucracy. Major disappointment, let’s make sure the damage is only one term. This is simply not normal in almost everywhere in the U.S. Stop simping for socialism and grow a spine.

Let me be even clearer: if Washingtonians lose healthcare it will be due to the $782M in cuts to low income and Washingtonians that Bob Ferguson and Democrats signed into law. The LARGEST Medicaid cut in state history. LONG BEFORE the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ was ever proposed.
Let me be very clear: that is at least 80,000 more Washingtonians who will lose health coverage, in addition to the 250,000 Washingtonians we already expect to lose coverage because of Medicaid cuts.

Blaming tariffs after sabotaging your own economy with record taxes & regulations is peak Bob Ferguson
Traffic at our ports is down. Our agricultural industry — a cornerstone of Washington’s economy — has seen a steep drop in shipments. Longstanding trade relationships are fraying. Costs for business are increasing while our global market is shrinking. Now, with 50% tariffs on key imports like steel, aluminum and copper, and sweeping reciprocal tariffs of up to 50% hitting dozens of trading partners starting Aug. 1, the cost of the president’s devastating trade war is only escalating. I will do everything in my power to help businesses and workers navigate these destructive tariffs. The president must end his senseless trade war. Our economy hangs in the balance.

I sat in caucus today, it was 4am or so and we had been fighting more than a day straight with no rest. I looked around at the warriors in that room, bloodshot sand paper eyes, cracking voices from having given hundreds of speeches over the last few days to defend WA against the worst. We may be tired and worn but our spirits were not. We had just come from an hours long debate over vaccine mandates and other pandemic related policies, as well as a ferocious fight over unconstitutional gun laws where the other side actually called it quits at one point. We fought every fight and then some. I’m so proud to serve with these talented and passionate citizen legislators who have sacrificed a lot to join a fight where the odds are stacked against them from the very beginning. We still have days of battles yet to come in the House, but we are ready to fight every single one of them and fight to fix Washington.

So let me get this straight… Democrats want to destroy the parent’s bill of rights initiative (starting today at 8am), so schools can hide critical information about kids from their parents for their “safety”. But those same Democrats also want to “protect parents rights” by leaving babies and toddlers in homes with parents who are actively using fentanyl and killing their kids. If your “gender-expansive” kid identifies as a “xenogender” domestic house cat, and demands a litter box at school, the school wouldn’t tell the parents. But it’s perfectly fine if that same kid is left in the custody of mom to smoke fentanyl while she fails to put her drugs in a state provided lock box and the child swallows skittle colored fentanyl pills and dies? The bill they propose that effectively erases the parent’s bill of rights has an emergency clause. Incredible that it’s an emergency to hide curriculum and sensitive information about kids from parents in school, but somehow not an emergency (or even worthy of consideration) that we have record levels of child fatalities due to unhinged radical ideology around hard drugs. Here’s what is common sense to most human beings: 1. Hiding critical information about kids from parents is creepy, a violation of the U.S. Constitution, unsafe, and possible grooming practices. I’ve taught my kids, like most do, that if an adult tries to make them keep secrets from me, that’s akin to stranger danger. They think these kids are theirs - false. They are our kids, and the state does not own our kids. 2. Kids should not be subjected to the abuse, neglect, and likely death of living in a drug den hell hole with their substance addicted parents. Don’t take my word for it, the data is public information. Child fatalities have skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. Adults on meth, heroin, or fentanyl simply cannot care for, feed, bathe, educate, or nurture their kids. They can’t even function to do those things for themselves. 3. The state should not hide your kids from you for the purposes of radical gender reassignment related healthcare, or frankly any other healthcare need. Imagine one day your kid never came home from school, no one could tell you were they were or even if they were alive, later you discover the state government has hidden the whereabouts of your child, and only after months have gone by you realize the school had shuffled your child off to a shelter where they could get pumped full of free puberty blockers. It’s absolutely bat shit crazy, and anyone who supported that needs their head examined. This is fall of Rome, end of civilization levels of stupidity. The law of the land is abundantly clear: parents have an absolute right to raise their children and make all decisions on their behalf as they see fit, unless there is abuse or neglect. That means having the right to know all of what’s going on with them in school, and removing them from their parents meth labs and fentanyl dens to save their lives. And yeah, it also means there should be no state-sponsored kidnappings to provide the most controversial “healthcare” possible.

One of two things will happen with Katie Wilson as new mayor of Seattle. As a non-King County resident, I’m just an outside observer here so take it for what it’s worth to you. 1. She will quickly realize all her socialist plans are not workable and will spend her term explaining (or spinning) to her base why the utopia hasn’t arrived as she backpedals her absurd socialist promises. She will do this to maintain her new powerful position and appeal to more reasonable folks. Socialists in power usually become the oligarchy after all (a fatal flaw). Socialism > failure > collapse. It’s a tale as old as time. We don’t have to think about it, we just set our watch to it. 2. She will implement some of her socialist plans, they will inevitably fail and/or be corrupted, and she will destroy Seattle more than it already is. This will cause another moderate uprising next time around. (We’ve seen this movie before with past Seattle elections after “the summer of love”) This is all easy to predict because this is the predictable outcome of socialism. This isn’t a political statement as much as it’s a historical one. Meanwhile, the rest of us are powerless but to watch the slow-motion car crash that will be Mayor Wilson, and the ideological experimentation with one of America’s once great major cities. It could be so much better. I don’t cheer for it obviously, but as the phrase goes: “elections have consequences”. Maybe we can come back to this post in a few years and see how this prediction played out. As a conservative, it appears to me as an outside observer that although I’ve seen a growing amount of socialist sentiment in the Democratic Party over the years, that it hasn’t felt until recently that they are totally in charge. To some degree, democrat officials of the past absolutely blur the lines between what we would consider liberal vs socialism (that’s a longer post), but the overt and outspoken avowed socialist is quickly becoming the democrat party standard. I personally know of many democrats who are liberal, but uncomfortable being a part of an -ism. Lucky for those democrats, the socialism always fails. The problem with that is who gets harmed along the way.

Gov. Ferguson had a big dumb press conference today to cry about federal Medicaid changes (which mostly take effect starting in 2027), while conveniently ignoring the LARGEST MEDICAID CUT IN STATE HISTORY ($782M) he and Dems cooked into ‘Bob’s Busted Budget’ long before the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ was ever proposed. While HR-1 focuses on work or volunteer requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents, illegal immigrants, and elective trans surgeries—95% of WA Democrat Medicaid cuts in ‘Bob’s Busted Budget’ target low income Washingtonians, people with disabilities, and seniors on long term care assistance. They even shredded life-saving dialysis treatment by 30%. Worst of all, they raised THE LARGEST TAX INCREASES IN STATE HISTORY, and cut the largest amount from healthcare from poor people in state history to give pay increases to bureaucrats, including SPENDING MORE TAX DOLLARS ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT HEALTHCARE called ‘Apple Health Expansion’. Now that FEMA denied disaster aid for the November bomb cyclone, Bob is blaming the Trump administration and acting like Washington was abandoned. But here’s the truth: 📉 The Democrat-controlled Legislature said the storm didn’t even qualify for state emergency funds. 🖊️ Ferguson signed that budget. 💰 And yes — the budget had emergency funding. HB1296 currently allows schools to withhold information about s*xual misconduct against a child. Why are Democrats protecting s*xual predators and trampling on the rights of parents?

You know what’s a real threat to democracy? Threatening, intimidating, corrupting the voice of the people in Washington State when they gather initiative signatures. Every single case of it must be prosecuted. Call the police, file a report, press charges, and dog your county prosecutor until they stand up for the rights of free people. The disrespect for the initiative process must be stopped. If just one bad actor is slapped with a gross misdemeanor, it will send a message to anyone thinking they can get away with suppressing people’s constitutional rights. If authorities try to ignore these crimes, I’ll personally call them until they can’t. Enough is enough. RCW 29A.84.250 (Corrupt practices, Initiative/Referendum petitions) provides that a person is guilty of a gross misdemeanor if they “interfere with or attempt to interfere with the right of any voter to sign or not to sign an initiative or referendum petition … by threats, intimidation, or any other corrupt means or practice.” RCW 29A.84.250(2): “A person is guilty of a gross misdemeanor who … knowingly destroys or defaces an initiative or referendum petition.” @bkheywood @stevemgordon67

I heard that there will be serious proposals in Olympia next session for a delivery tax (tax on goods delivered to your door) and a head/payroll tax (a tax on jobs). Per usual those costs will be passed down to consumers through price increases because that’s Econ 101. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bill to raise the property tax cap to 3% came back as well. Hard NO on any tax increase.

A few years ago, a mother beat her 6 year old son to death and left his body next to a sibling. There was taser burns on the child’s body, and blood on the walls, he ultimately died of blunt force trauma to the head. This happened while under CPS supervision. The mother was heavily addicted to meth and this was another one of DCYF’s “safety plans”. The day that news broke I was in committee to hear the Oakley Carlson bill (which did not pass), and I will never forget when I brought it up to the chair, who now runs DCYF. I was told that if the mother just had more services these events may not have happened. I was stunned, but I think what angered me more at the time was the lack of any reflection on these policies. It was just shrugged off. They shrug off the skyrocketing deaths of babies and toddlers and say it’s just related to the fentanyl epidemic. How about Ariel Garcia who was stabbed by his addicted mother 40 times and left like trash next to a highway? How about the little baby in Port Townsend, murdered by his substance abusing parents and tossed into the bushes like his life didn’t even matter? What about little Oakley Carlson, likely murdered by her drug abusing criminal parents, who was ripped by DCYF from perfectly good foster parents? I remember the names, I remember the stories. But to Democrats these kids are just another government statistic. A blacked out line in a fatality report. A casualty at the alter of radical pro drug ideology. I was told I needed to “calm down” because “you can’t save them all”—well hell can we try?! Don’t be gaslit. These deaths are preventable. These kids deserved a second chance at a real life. And where are the babies? The centers to care for babies born addicted are empty in the midst of a fentanyl crisis and rising deaths. I suspect there are some very concerning things happening right now. More to follow on this, as I’m not even close to done fighting for these kids. I will raze the earth to save them. We must pass HB 1092. king5.com/article/news/inves…

The Washington State Constitution came to visit today. She’s begins with a preamble and Article 1, Section 1, which reads: “We, the people of the State of Washington, grateful to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe for our liberties, do ordain this constitution.” and “All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.”

This is possibly the worst reporting I’ve seen this year. So many factual errors and biases. Let’s just begin with the OP lead-in: “Before this bill, schools had up to 48 hours to notify parents in certain situations.” This is false. I-2081 is CURRENT LAW, as of this moment immediate notification is the law. HB1296 sought to erase that and make it up to 48 hours. Republicans proposed an an amendment for immediate notification in committee, all democrats denied it. Later, the striking amendment on the floor did not contain this language, a Republican amendment for immediate notification was proposed to the striking amendment. It was finally adopted by democrats after a month of national backlash. So no, before this bill, which is right now, immediate notification is law. This understanding is fundamental to realize how HB 1296 undermines and erodes parents rights—and in many more ways than this one provision. After many requests, KIRO refuses to correct its article. Further, KIRO states schools have 45 days now to produce education records. This is false. Again I-2081 is current law. An amendment to HB 1296 returned it to 10 days from the 45 days the bill sought to increase it to. How do I know? They were my amendments on the house floor! Put this article down and try again. The bias and totally out of context reporting is insulting enough, but the pure factual errors are unconscionable.

Watching FOX13 news today and was surprised when WA Democrat political analyst, Cathy Allen, took down Bob Ferguson over his corruption and dishonesty and exposed in detail how he packages corporate and PAC money and launders it through the State Democratic Party. I guess there’s still some honesty in the world. These are illegal pass throughs. You cannot earmark funds in this way per state law. Not only does it cover up Bob’s true donors and the amounts they’ve donated, it bypasses protections the state has to ensure funds didn’t come from foreign entities. This is just a mere taste of the corruption, lies, and the end of transparency in government we will get if Bob wins. This is the second time (at least) that Bob has manipulated WA campaign finance laws to his benefit dating back to the very beginning of his campaign. It should’ve been telling that his first act as a candidate was shady transfers of funds from his previous campaigns for AG, which his previous Democrat opponent, Hilary Franz, was able to stop. But not until it was too late. Intentionally doing these things is quite literally a threat to the free, fair, and openly transparent democratic process.

So, Emily Randall and Patty Murray voted to shutdown the government and hold the paychecks of our military hostage so they could give more money to illegal immigrant healthcare. Not surprised, right on brand for socialist Democrats. Terrible vote for Randall considering the hordes of federal workers and veterans in the 6th CD. No wonder they are breathlessly and desperately trying to blame anyone but themselves.

In WA it feels like if you take a risk to build a business that builds something tangible that people want, and pay your neighbors to help you do it, then you are the villain. You exist to fund the desires of people in power who hate you and think you should constantly give more and more until you can’t give anymore and you break. With sky high costs and lack of competitiveness with neighboring states and foreign countries, you work yourself to the bone so you can make payroll, and just when you thought you made just enough to feel slightly secure you are absolutely hammered with taxes, some of them astonishingly unfair like B&O. The state government never feels like it’s there to help, it more feels like a huge entity that at any moment can be weaponized against you. Some legislators hear the word business and have visions of smokey rooms, big shadowy corporations, and vaults filled with endless cash. Often, they’ve never ran a business or even signed the front of a paycheck. Even if you harm a very large business, you’re likely harming 100 small businesses who are vendors for it. Ironically, it also harms the workers at the lower rungs, and ultimately consumers. During the last session we were debating a bill the republicans knew would harm small business. The Dems acknowledged it, and created a grant program to assist small businesses who could be crushed by their new law. The problem here is that small business doesn’t want another grant it has to fight for to survive. Most can survive on their own if simply allowed the freedom to do so. So what is a business? It’s not just a building, materials/goods, and a balance sheet (another thing many legislators have never seen)… it’s people. The owners are people who risked their capital and struggled to create in a hostile place, the employees feed their families and prosper along with the business. You can’t be against business (big or small) and be for the working class, for innovators, for wealth creators that rise people from poverty and fund things that help the less fortunate. Some would say they support business… but their actions tell a different story. For every new onerous regulation, every new or increased tax, every failure of our education system, every new dollar spent and wasted in government, and so much more, just feels like another dagger in the back. And we don’t mind paying a reasonable and fair amount of taxes as long as it’s attached to real results. We don’t mind some common sense regulations and protections. But it’s not reasonable or sustainable. The state of Washington won’t even contract with its own labor and businesses to build its own ferries. We must be friendlier towards business and realize that who we are working for and serving also created, toiled over, and sacrificed to build those businesses—whether they be an employee, management, or owner.

These girls would be alive today had the court granted no unsupervised visitation, as requested. A massive, heartbreaking failure of Washington’s judicial system. And it’s far too common. We should change the law. Did not complete court ordered evaluations? No visitation. (By the way these orders are extremely common to be blatantly ignored, and are rarely enforced) Did complete evals but results deemed you unsafe? No visitation. It’s that simple.

One of my dozens of speeches last night on parents rights. I’ve been gaveled multiple times for not having a “soft and respectful tone”… which is not a rule, but I don’t give a damn. This speech was softer than most of my previous ones, but probably only because my voice has almost completely worn out from my hundreds of floor speeches this session.
PARENTS IN WASHINGTON STATE: around 2:15am tonight your elected House Representatives just voted to take away your parental rights to be involved in your children’s education. ‼️ NOT ONLY THAT, first they voted NOT to let the decision go to the ballot, taking away your right to vote on it. YOU have to STOP electing these people. I just feel sorry for the parents that can’t homeschool or afford other school options because this is insane.

Yesterday, we heard a very divisive speech from probably the worst Governor in state history, Jay Inslee. But today was today. Newly minted Gov. Bob Ferguson began his maiden speech by acknowledging how WA is broken in various ways, and struck a very bipartisan tone filled with Republican policies to fix those problems. I’m sure there will be many disagreements to come, but I am hopeful that the door has opened for long abandoned solutions to fix WA. I look forward to helping the Governor achieve some of his budget goals when they align with those of my caucus, namely cutting bureaucracy, sustainable spending, and avoiding new taxes. Governor Ferguson even mentioned policies I have recently introduced to only spend what we project to receive in revenue, a big reason we are in a deficit. Going forward there will be cautious optimism. There is a lot of work to do, but the true test comes at the end of a veto pen. Having been one of the more vocal critics of Bob Ferguson over the last year, I truly hope for the betterment of our state that he proves my suspicions wrong and helps solve the many problems plaguing our state. And of course, like an umpire I’ll be calling balls and strikes, and I’ll be standing up when I think things are going the wrong way. If our new Governor breaks the promises he has made today, I’ll be the first to hold him accountable for it. But it’s hard to explain the different feeling around the legislature today to those who don’t live it. In my time, and the time of the people senior to me, Jay Inslee did not seem as invested in working with the legislature. I met with Jay Inslee once to discuss SVP legislation. He and his staff promptly lied to me, broke every promise, and then even vetoed things they promised to help with. The new Governors staff is visible, working with both sides, and that is a huge difference. As the Republican budget lead, his OFM has established regular meetings with me. This is not something that they have to do, nor is it something I feel was always done in the past. I hope that doesn’t change. There will be many tests to come, but today is today, and until today I have yet to see a Governor give so much credence to minority party ideas. It was refreshing, but we must stay vigilant.

Great article by Brandi Kruse. I wish I could say I’m surprised, but this kind of corrupt activity is pervasive in WA. It’s why I introduced HB 2058 & 2059 to hold private entities accountable when they receive state dollars. These two bills would prevented every corrupt activity mentioned in the article. Of course these simple solutions almost any Washingtonian would support were ignored by the majority. Yet, they will be re-introduced next session.

A lot of lies have been told about Medicaid in WA. We brought receipts. WA Democrats made the largest Medicaid cut in state history long before HR-1 was ever proposed, because they spent us into a multi-billion dollar deficit. Any Medicaid impact you see today is due to these Democrat cuts, not HR-1. Democrats didn’t cut Medicaid for illegals, or change work requirements for able-bodied people without kids. They slashed nearly $800M from poor, disabled, or elderly Washingtonians, then raised your taxes and dished out billions in pay increases.
On May 20, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed off on the Democrats’ budget, enacting the largest Medicaid cuts in Washington’s history. Nearly 95% of the cuts hit general medical care, services for people with disabilities and seniors, and long-term care assistance. Forty-four days later, Gov. Ferguson denounced federal Medicaid cuts – most of which may take effect in 2027 – as “cruel” and “morally bankrupt.”
