We're so sad to hear that the great Renata Scotto has died. It was our privilege to present her with the Lifetime Achivement award in 2017 and her speech brought the house down. A true icon.
Every year our Lifetime Achievement Award honours one of the opera world's all-time greats. This year we pay tribute to the extraordinary Leontyne Price - a trailblazer in opera, whose legacy lives on to this day and whose astonishing voice remains unmatched. #OperaAwards2019
We could think of no better day than today, her birthday, to share the news that Teresa Berganza is our #OperaAwards2018 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner. She will be presented with the award on stage at the London Coliseum on April 9.
Now to the award for Conductor of the Year.
And the winner is Kirill Petrenko @bay_staatsoper - the first artist ever to win this award twice.
