This incredible arrangement of The Village Green Preservation Society was performed for the BBC-2 In Concert series on Jan. 24, 1973. The brass ensemble also featured a week earlier in the 1st full-scale presentation of the new Village Green Preservation Society stage show.

On this day 12 years ago we lost a legend, beloved founding member of The Kinks and bass player extraordinaire, Pete Quaife. After getting the news of his loss, Ray dedicated this emotional performance of ‘Days’ to Pete’s memory at @glastonbury. Thank you Pete ♥️

'Dead End Street' was The Kinks' comment on poverty at the time. A song full of character, and yet containing an underlying sense of hope. Dave said the song reflects a fondness for the past, whilst also expressing a determination for change.

One of the first narrative music videos (not featuring the band playing), 'Dead End Street' sees #TheKinks running around with a coffin dressed as 19th century pallbearers, a tongue in cheek move that the BBC dismissed as "in bad taste".
The Village Green Preservation Society track is recorded at Pye Studios No.2 on this day in 1968 - One of the last tracks recorded during the summer for the album.
Waterloo Sunset and b-side Two Sisters gets released in the US today in 1967 - The song is listed in 2004 by Rolling Stone Magazine at number 42 in the top 500 greatest songs of all-time.
