An 86-mph fastball down the pipe looks 86 mph. If it’s inside, it looks 92 to the hitter. Away, it looks 80. Pitchers use that 12-mph spread to keep hitters off balance. Watch how #MLB pitchers do it this weekend in the #WildCard! #Postseasonbit.ly/31jVW48
Mic'd up with @tomhouse: "The head weighs 7% of body weight. If your head moves 6 inches this way, that's basically 7 foot pounds of energy going that way instead of straight forward. That might be the difference between 95 and 96, or 93 and 95." Keep your eyes level! 👀 ⚾ 💪

Tom House says long toss should be done at high intensity and only to a distance at which you can maintain perfect mechanics to build arm endurance 💪 @tomhouse

Your head weighs 8 lbs. If it is more than 15 degrees off center as you pitch, its weight doubles. Fighting 16 lbs of dead weight pulling you in the wrong direction wreaks havoc on biomechanical efficiency & pitch command. More from @tomhousesports here: bit.ly/3w54mJP

Real velocity is what's on the gun. Perceived velocity is how fast the pitch looks to the hitter. Effective velocity is how fast the pitch looks compared to the pitch that came before. The best pitchers in #MLB will master all three. bit.ly/31jVW48

No one cares how good you are when you’re 13, but everyone cares if you hurt your arm when you’re 13. At that age, just minimize injury risk so the pitcher has fun and keeps playing, says coach @tomhouse. The easiest way to do that is to count pitches. bit.ly/3LocQ5M
We're thrilled to be joining #Dodgers ace @ClaytonKersh22 for a workout & bullpen this Friday, 2/10.
We'll go LIVE on Instagram several times between noon and 1:30 ET. Stay tuned to @TeamMSTRD so you catch all the action!
Mustard, Inc. has agreed to purchase the Field Of Dreams. We are inviting you all to our first live Mustard camps at the Field of Dreams featuring all the best throwers and throwing coaches in the world! See you there!
Post-start, #Dodgers P @ClaytonKersh22 focuses on recovery work with J Bands or dumbbells. "I don't ice anymore," he says. "Unless there's an acute injury, ice isn't really around much in the big leagues." Read more in our latest blog: bit.ly/3Lv1Zc3
“If you focus on the process, the result will take care of itself.” Drew Brees stresses the importance of why you should focus on the process instead of being so focused on the result.
Mic'd up with coach @tomhouse: Want to stop flying open on your front side? The vector drill helps you align your energy vectors towards home plate. Having the anchor toward the fence makes it harder to pull off or spin out. Try with a towel or plyos or add it to your warmup!
"A properly thrown curveball is less stressful on the arm than a fastball," says @tomhousesports. "If you hook or flop the wrist, stress increases. If you pre-set wrist & forearm in a karate-chop position, bury & squeeze the ball, the curve is very safe." bit.ly/30rkBmx
Hey, pitchers! 2-knee throws teach you to use your upper half more efficiently and allow you to train at high intensity with less stress on your arm. As @wlombo32 says, stay loose, close the upper half, feel that rubber-band stretch and keep the eyes level through release!

"The angle of the wrist & forearm determines what pitch you throw, not twisting, snapping or curving the wrist or fingers into release," says @tomhousesports. "Those actions create stress on the arm, not movement on the ball." More grip tips from Tom here: bit.ly/30rkBmx

Mic’d up with coach @tomhouse: "I like when I can see the leg coming back while the butt's going forward." This keeps the hips from opening too soon & helps pitchers create their “lift & thrust” angle going down the mound, which is measured in our app! #pitchingdrills#pitching
Kids today pitch too much and throw too little. The answer, according to coaches @TomHouse and @JaegerSports, is long toss. Check out our latest blog to learn how to incorporate this training method into your throwing routine! bit.ly/3chjRtw
The two questions @tomhouse gets most often are for how long should pitchers rest their arms following the season? And is it better to stop throwing immediately or gradually decrease to a stop? The answer is you should do none of that. #BeACutAbovebit.ly/3nEe7KK
Should long toss be done with arc or on a line? The answer? You have to figure out what works for you. But coaches @TomHouse and @JaegerSports share their thoughts in our latest blog. bit.ly/3chjRtw
Between starts, #MLB great Nolan Ryan didn't throw baseballs off the mound, but he would do 100 towel drills to target off the mound every day. Why? Because you can get throwing reps for recovery & patterning without stressing the arm. @roberttomhouse1 of @NPA_Pitching explains.

Pitchers! Get the booty moving toward home plate the moment you lift your leg! Think about leading with the front pants pocket. Your greatest mass is in your lower half; use it as effectively and as early as possible, says @tomhouse. #pitching#velocitybit.ly/2S3FBiL
For every foot your release point is closer to home plate, the ball appears 3 mph faster to the hitter’s eye; hitters say some pitchers' pitches just "get on them faster." A long strides moves release point closer to the plate and helps you #BeACutAbove. bit.ly/2RT94s1
Once a youth pitcher hits 30 pitches in an inning, take the pitcher out, says coach @tomhouse. Even if they’re close to 30 pitches, consider taking them out. There's no need to keep a pitcher in the game when he or she is flirting with muscle failure. bit.ly/3LocQ5M
Coach @tomhouse says your drag line should be the length of 2 of your feet; that's not 2 feet/24 inches, but 2 of your size 9s or size 13s. If it’s shorter, your foot is lifting too soon. If you wear out the toe of your cleat, you’re doing it right!

Kids on the sandlot, throwing Wiffle (1 oz), tennis (2 oz), Pinky (3 ounces) or footballs (16 oz) as hard as they can, have unwittingly been training with #weightedballs for years. It's not new! Check out our latest #TeamMSTRD blog w/ @tomhousesports:

The faster you get to your energy angle - which should be 25 degrees or more, measured at max leg lift from your leading hip to your back ankle - the faster you get your whole body moving down the center line toward home plate. More from @tomhouse here! bit.ly/2S3FBiL
Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler and Mustard cofounder coach Tom House agree wholeheartedly that playing multiple sports makes you a better, healthier and more well-rounded athlete. Best of luck to Walker and the #Dodgers in the playoffs! ⚾
Ideally, your drag line should run from the middle of the rubber to the middle of home plate, indicating all of your energy is moving directly toward your target.
Pitches are only counted with a batter in the box. No one counts bullpens, pre-game or between-inning warmups, pickoffs, or time spent playing catch. So next time a coach pushes the pitch limit, remember your kid is likely already over it, says @TomHouse. bit.ly/3LocQ5M
Tom House and Pitching Ninja breakdown Zach Wheeler's Mustard report card. Wheeler has the highest efficiency score ever measured in the app and uses a leg kick towards third base to help keep his shoulders closed until release.🔥#baseball
A good warmup is key to prepare your body and your arm to throw with maximum intent, and throwing is not the best warmup for throwing! Coach @TomHouse shares warmup tips in our latest blog. bit.ly/3qd7kvy
“To grip a baseball, cut the ball in half w/ the thumb & middle finger,” says @TomHouseSports. “The splitter & forkball are exceptions, but the thumb splits the “V” of the fork. Every 1/8 inch you miss cutting the ball in half by costs you 8 at the plate.”

The two biggest mechanical differences between quarterbacks and pitchers? For quarterbacks, timing is faster and stride length is shorter. Coach @tomhouse explains in our latest blog. bit.ly/3TS2rDz
🚨PSA: Mustard was not specifically mentioned in the commissioner’s guidelines, so we’d just like to be clear…
Do not put Mustard on baseballs.
Only use Mustard for your pitching mechanics.
The feet should be armpit-width in the set position. If they're too wide, you can't lift your leg without cantilevering to shift your center of gravity backward and your head will go back before it goes forward. That's wasted motion! More from @tomhouse: bit.ly/2S3FBiL
The mound is the only unnatural thing about #pitching, increasing ground force production to 6X bodyweight. This is why we only HOLD and do not throw heavy balls off the mound. More on #weightedballs with @tomhousesports here:

Coach @TomHouse recommends all youth athletes, parents and coaches follow the guidelines on pitch count limits and required rest recommendations for youth pitchers set out by @MLBPitchSmart. Read more in our latest blog.
Take a listen as @tomhouse breaks down this young pitcher’s mechanics. He highlights the importance of creating an energy angle at peak leg lift—what we measure as ‘Lift and Thrust.’ This pivotal element of the throw helps generate both velocity and direction ⚾️🔥
"We warm up to throw, we don't throw to warm up," says Coach @tomhouse. A good warm-up should increase blood flow, along with joint mobility, flexibility and stability, all BEFORE you pick up a baseball. Get your arm ready to work with Mustard.

To throw efficiently, a pitcher must get into the right position at the right time with the right sequence of movements, like dominoes falling. If a domino falls too early or too late, it disrupts the other dominoes. This is the kinematic sequence. bit.ly/3vMWZYo
Training upper body functional strength will help you to move faster, produce more velocity AND keep your arm healthy! Take care of your arm, you only get one! And, as coach @TomHouse says, "If you think you're pushing hard, push harder." #armcare#velocity#offseason#baseball
If you miss the strike zone high & low, it's often a swivel & stabilize issue with the glove. If you miss right & left, it’s usually a balance & posture issue, but the glove can also affect posture. There are a few ways to skin the cat, says @tomhouse. bit.ly/3lRavaA
Undue pressure put on youth athletes by their parents is one reason why 70% of American kids quit sports by age 13. Coach @tomhouse shares tips on how parents can support their kids so sports are a fun experience through which they learn and grow! bit.ly/3JhiqGH
Try weighted ball holds this offseason to help build #velocity & arm strength. Work up to a weight at which you can go at full speed but still hold on. This builds strength in the decelerators & you can only accelerate what you can decelerate! More info: teammstrd.com/weighted-balls…
To retain torque, delay rotation of your back shoulder to the target for as long as possible; it shouldn't rotate until the front foot hits the ground & your center of gravity has moved forward to at least 80% of stride length. More from @tomhouse: bit.ly/38medko
Pitchers leap for distance, they don't jump for height. The leap comes from plantar flexion of the back ankle, or going tippy-toe, not from contraction of the quad. The quad and knee only stabilize during the delivery. More from @tomhouse: bit.ly/2S3FBiL
Coaches @TomHouse and @JaegerSports agree, the most important points of long toss are to be athletic, to experiment to find what works best for you, and to listen to your body and arm, because they tell you different things every day. bit.ly/3chjRtw
A pitcher's drag line should run straight from the middle of the rubber to the middle of home plate, and you want your belly button, your spine and your nose all on that line, says @tomhousesports. Read more here! #TeamMSTRD#BeACutAboveteammstrd.com/whats-in-a-dra…

As a pitcher’s shoulders square to home plate, the glove needs to swivel, palm to chest, & stabilize over the front foot, inside the width of the torso, between the shoulders & belly button. Torso moves to the glove, not vice-versa. More from @tomhouse: bit.ly/3lRavaA
Coaching your own kid, male or female, really only works until the teenage years, when kids are designed to butt heads with their parents, says @tomhouse. Then, it’s better to take a step back and let the kids play for someone who isn’t related to them. bit.ly/3JhiqGH
#Dodgers P @ClaytonKersh22 knows the importance of baseball being a “game” for kids. "It’s the same game for me now as it was then... If I didn’t have fun playing the game, I don’t think I'd do it anymore." For more from Clayton, join In the Kitchen today! in-the-kitchen.teammstrd.com…
Timing & stride length are so important to the pitching delivery! Stride at least the length of 6 of your feet in 1.05 seconds or less, with ball release .15 to .25 seconds after foot strike. Join #TeamMSTRD to check & improve your own biomechanical stats! bit.ly/2RT94s1
It's the total opposite of what we've all been taught, but @tomhouse says have kids practice catching grounders and popups with their throwing hands in their pockets. The eyes work better catching with one hand than they do with two. bit.ly/31BU49W

Timing is key! The best pitchers get from their first forward movement into footstrike in 1 second or less. At #TeamMSTRD, we think GFF: Go Forward Fast. Throw hard easily by using your legs to go as fast & as far as possible into footstrike. bit.ly/3xfeOyg#BeACutAbove
If the head moves toward 1st or 3rd base, check posture in the set position. Kids who lean back 10 degrees as they lift are generally too upright, so lean them 10 degrees forward. Get the head on the baseball side of the body. More from @tomhousesports: bit.ly/3w54mJP
