Congratulations to Felix Andåker, appointed as Head of the EU civilian mission for the support of Palestinian Police and rule of law, EUPOL COPPS @Eupolcopps. This appointment is a recognition of Sweden’s engagement with civilian crisis management and contribution to the EU’s work on peace and security, rule of law and institutional development.

Russia’s shadow fleet was designed to bypass sanctions quietly.    The growing need for reflagging, military escorts, and longer shipping routes suggests the operation is becoming considerably less quiet, and considerably more expensive.

Productive meeting with my close colleague @sikorskiradek in Gdynia. Poland and Sweden are key stakeholders in strengthening security and stability in the Baltic Sea region. By combining our political, security and defence capabilities, we can act as one in the Baltic Sea.

This year also marks 80 years since Sweden joined the United Nations. For eight decades, Sweden has stood for multilateral cooperation, the sovereign equality of all States, and respect for international law. As Ambassador @NicolaClase signs the Charter, Sweden renews that commitment.

The International Contact Group for the Great Lakes (ICG), 🇧🇪 🇩🇰 🇨🇦🇪🇺 🇫🇷 🇩🇪🇳🇱🇸🇪🇨🇭🇬🇧🇺🇸, under the Swedish Chairpersonship, convened in Nairobi and Addis Ababa on 17-19 June to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the African-led mediation and regional partners. On 19 June the Special Envoys, together with the Representative of the AU-appointed Mediator @presidencecstg and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region @un_greatlakes, held meetings at @_AfricanUnion Headquarters, with H.E. Youssouf @ymahmoudali, Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @SahleWorkZewde, co-facilitator responsible for humanitarian affairs under the AU-led mediation, and H.E. @Bankole_Adeoye, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. AU-led mediation, supported by strong regional engagement, remains central to achieving lasting peace in the Great Lakes Region. The International Contact Group reiterated its support for the peace efforts by the AU-appointed mediator, as well as the Panel of Facilitators, the AU Commission, and regional partners. Last winter, Ukraine’s electrical grid and power plants were intensively attacked by Russia. Ukraine must now make extensive efforts to ensure the energy supply for the coming winter. The Swedish Government has therefore approved a new support package for Ukraine worth approximately SEK 1.5 billion to support the country’s energy sector in 2026. Together with @FBAFolke we hosted a seminar on support for Ukrainian veterans, with remarks by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs @o_shym, PSC Ambassadors Ingrid Ask 🇸🇪 and Ivana Noršić 🇭🇷, and new research presented by @kse_ua. “It is essential for long-term stability, resilience, and recovery – in Ukraine as after any war – that those who have served can return to meaningful civilian lives”, Ambassador Ask said. Sweden supports Ukraine with economic and technical aid for veteran reintegration, as part of our comprehensive military and civilian support. 🇸🇪🇺🇦

Russia must be held accountable for its crimes against Ukraine. Otherwise, we risk a world in which it pays to launch wars of aggression. This is a key issue for Sweden’s Government. It’s about redress and justice for Ukraine as a state and for the victims of Russia’s war crimes. The Government has therefore decided that Sweden will join the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and the International Claims Commission for Ukraine. #StandWithUkraine
