Dear [NAME OF LAWMAKER],
Since Hamas declared war with the October 7 Massacre and brutally seized 251 hostages, Israel has facilitated the transfer of nearly 1.2 million tons of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
None of that aid has reached the hostages, who are being starved, tortured, raped, and executed in the Hamas Terror Dungeons. They are being denied their basic human rights, held in horrific conditions without Red Cross visits or access to any aid agency. None of them have even tried to visit the hostages; none are even raising awareness. With winter approaching, the surviving hostages are all at immediate risk of death. There is no time.
The international community has abandoned and betrayed the hostages. Just recently, Britain, France and other states voted for a UN Security Council resolution that demanded an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza – without the return of the hostages. Mandy Damari, mother of British hostage Emily Damari, says that would be a “death sentence” for the hostages because Hamas would have no reason to keep them alive.
I am writing to you to demand the creation of an Emily Damari Humanitarian Aid Corridor for the hostages, named for 28-year-old Emily Damari, a British citizen abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Hamas must let the hostages go immediately – and until then, it must allow them access to food, water, and medicine to keep them alive until their release. Qatar, Turkey, and Iran are Hamas’ patrons. They have influence over Hamas, and our country has influence over them. Emily’s mother Mandy is demanding an international initiative to secure life-saving humanitarian aid to the hostages, in her daughter’s name. Hamas’ patrons must face consequences if they deny humanitarian aid to the hostages. We should not be giving red-carpet treatment to the leaders of countries that support and host the leaders of the terrorist army still holding 100 hostages in Gaza.
I am calling on you to demand that our government pressure Hamas’ patrons—Qatar, Turkey, and Iran—to facilitate an Emily Damari Humanitarian Aid Corridor. What would this mean? There are dozens of humanitarian agencies on the ground in Gaza. They must make every effort to find the hostages and give them basic humanitarian aid. The Red Cross and other agencies must report back to their donor countries – including our government! – on the efforts they have made to locate and deliver aid to the hostages.
Aid agencies must drive trucks to Kerem Shalom, Rafah, or any of the other aid crossings facilitated by Israel, and say that these trucks are carrying aid for the hostages. Qatar, Turkey, and Iran must order Hamas to allow that aid to reach the hostages. If they refuse, they should be sanctioned. They must end their complicity with the abuse of the hostages!
Our country has power and leverage over Hamas’ patrons. That means it can help the hostages. It must do more to force Hamas to grant them basic humanitarian conditions – and to let them go NOW, immediately and unconditionally.
The October 7 Hostage Crisis has been going on for 426 days.
There is no time to waste for our country to do something useful.
Yours faithfully,
